The Sunday Social: Happy New Year!

Well I stayed up until 2am at my mom’s friend’s house… and ended up watching a DUI arrest right in front of her house, where the drunk guy basically mooned the entire neighborhood in the middle of the street. It was almost like watching a really mellowed-out episode of Cops: Seattle if Seattle had enough crime to have a Cops show.

As for K-pop this year… I really hope that SHINee gets a break, that EXO Planet doesn’t totally suck, and most of all for just in general better artists to debut instead of all these obnoxious and easily forgotten boy and girl groups. I want to see a prodigy out there. I wanna see something alike to a new BoA (but BoA will always be better, obv.) I also hope that the stars won’t spend too much time overseas (AHEM SHINEE/2NE1/WONDER GIRLS/Anyone else who was thinking of doing it. It’s okay, SNSD, you can do it. Idc.)

As for personally… my resolution is to expand my mental prowess and get ready for my trip to Korea in January of next year!

What I hope for in Kpop in 2012:
1) For Beast and MBLAQ to gain more recognition and keep producing awesome stuff as both groups have improved so much this year.
2) For Teen Tops voices to finally break.
3) For Bigbangs comeback to actually be good this year (as much as I love tonight and somebody to love, this year’s comeback was disappointing considering the expectation).
4) For artists to stop trying to crossover to the US, just improve yourself as much as possible and the progression will be natural (why would you want to struggle to get into a market where you have to learn another language to impress so many people who wouldn’t take the time to learn your language? I see no point to these crossovers to the US -___-)
5) For 2NE1′s Dara to go back to her hair from Taeyangs video (pretty girl needs to stop with the crazy hair, as much as I am jealous of the Vegeta hairdo that my mum would never let me walk out of the house with -___-).
6) For JYJ and DBSK to have a secret meeting when DBSK is on vacation and get back together (I can dream =’( ).
7) For Taeyeon to do a badass solo like when she covered Devil’s Cry in the SBS Gayo Daejun (she seemed so into it, regardless of the lip syncing speculation, it looked like she genuinely enjoyed that- and does anybody else think she looked like Park Shin Hye at the beginning??)
8) For Hyoyeon to join 2NE1 (if only- it would be kinda epic, and the girl has swag, it’s just crushed in her sugar coated SNSD bubble- which I love but she belongs somewhere more swaggerific).
9) For T-ARA to start making full use of their 7 members (Hwayoung was pretty good in We Were in Love, I wanna see that more).
10) For U-Kiss to win at a music show, they’ve been really good this past year (and they wanna win so badly, Kevin’s tweets make me wanna hug him =( ).

Ran the full gamut from hangovers, to partying hard, to being alone in a crowd.

Wishes this year:

1) That all who did well this year keep up their good work. Even if they were not that recognised, it will be seen sooner or later (Rainbow)

2) That SM finally start respecting music, and put it first. Even fans can get fed up with the lack of trying on their part. “Love the idols, hate the management” is a common meme round here.

3) That SNSD get time off to just be themselves, do something they enjoy. Watching most performances, they look most pleased when they perform something outside their repertoire, like pop covers or the SBS’s Gayo Daejun Symphony.

4) And while on SNSD, can we let the Japanese do all their albums/singles from today onwards? The Japanese work is on a different and higher level.

5) May T-ara put aside the musical kitsch, and start gunning for real music. They are able to pull it off, and attract fans who recognise good pop.

6) Cube should start supporting those they neglected in their Beast push. Am certain G.NA and 4minute deserve better. A Pink is the only bright spark this year end.

7) Speaking of Beast, am glad to see that they are a group of legit talent that made it. But now that they’ve proven themselves, they should have more freedom to try different stuff, and experiment, leaving their mark in the industry.

8) That really silly ideas like Orange Caramel go away. I like the girls, but the whole concept seems built on role-play fantasies and being so bad it’s good. A royal waste of singing ability.

9) That 2NE1 has a full scale concert where I live. One does not have to be a fan to appreciate the sense of performance they bring to the stage.

10) That artistes stop thinking of crossovers/expansions, and just do well at home first. K-pop first sold on the basis it was good locally, then as they tried harder, the cracks showed.

Wild card: That the Nine Muses step up musically (they need to). The songs are getting slightly better, but not the singing. And if that succeeds, it portends a bad trend of “talentless singing”.
