20131209_seoulbeats_xmas2The K-pop Christmas songs and MVs keep on coming! It’s only the second week of December and already the songs run the spectrum from sad, to happy, to silly. The last post on holiday songs definitely focused more on the tracks tailored towards single people mourning their lost love, so it is a nice change to get to focus on the happy, lovey-dovey Christmas songs this time around.

CN Blue’s Jonghyun and Juniel got together this season to do a collaborative duet, titled “Love Falls,” that expresses the heart-pounding emotions of high-school love. The two play the part of a teenage couple spending their first Christmas together and there is an abundance of puppy-eyes being made at each other. The MV basically includes an abridged version of an entire K-drama; falling in love, getting in trouble at school, planning Christmas surprise presents, conflict, doubt, jealousy and then a happy ending that ties into the promise they made at the beginning to see the snow fall together. The song itself is a sweet affair that ties into the holiday feeling by adding jingle bells and the like to the back-track. If you are in the mood for a puppy-love Christmas, this is the song for you.

Next we have Secret’s “I Do I Do,” an upbeat Christmas tune with enough aegyo to rot your teeth out. The ladies of Secret are masters of switching from cute concepts to sexy concepts and back again, so it is no surprise that they have reverted to their cute personas for the holiday season. This MV is even more cutesy than usual, however, and comes across as slightly overdone. The interesting one shot format of the video and the hilarious box people certainly do redeem some of the corniness, though. The song, on the other hand, is just plain catchy. The tune is cheerful and has just the right amount of “Christmas” injected into it while the vocals are spot on. This would be the perfect song to dance around the house to while decorating.

Last but not least, Jellyfish Entertainment has released their label’s Christmas song for the year. “Winter Propose” is a lyrical treat for the ears with pleasant harmonies and lots of power vocals. Featured in the song are Sung Si-kyung, Park Hyo-shin, Seo In-guk, VIXX, and a mystery female vocalist – perhaps a trainee? It’s a distinctly Christmas sounding song and goes with a more traditional melody and concept than some other K-pop holiday releases. The MV, on the other hand, is anything but traditional. The story of the MV is told in the medium of sand with an artist’s hand changing the design by smoothing it out and then drawing the lines again. The art ranges from the faces of the singers, to images of a happy couple, to pretty winter landscapes, and the distinctive concept is particularly refreshing after all of the stereotypical aegyo in the previous two MVs. If you are looking for an upbeat, but also unique, K-pop MV, “Winter Propose” is just the thing.
