5 Things I LOVED in Kpop This Week: 10/17 – 10/23

27

It was a pretty huge week in K-pop last week with the release of the first part of Tablo‘s comeback albums, photo shoots galore of your favorite idols, Seoul Fashion Week, and Girls’ Generation‘s vie for world domination.  Did any of these events make my top 5 Things that happened in K-pop last week? Keep reading to find out what I thought was a bit more special than the rest.

5. Yoo Ji-tae & Kim Hyo-jin’s pre-wedding pics

Actors Yoo Ji-tae and Kim Hyo-jin will appear in a wedding pictorial for Harper’s Bazaar November issue.  The teaser pics released look blissful, the couple who will be married on December 2nd at the Shilla Hotel.  The couple, coincidentally enough, first met at a photo shoot.  They have been dating for nine years and this is the first photo shoot  they have done as a couple since they began dating.  Best wishes to Yoo Ji-tae and Kim Hyo-jin for a happy and prosperous marriage.

4. SNSD brings The Boys out

The album was underwhelming, the MV was a hot mess, and the ‘rapping’ in the song… is better left unmentioned. But, it’s good to have SNSD back in K-pop.  I like the girls, and I just wish SM Entertainment would give them better material that plays to their strengths–which is NOT rapping.  The live performance of “The Boys”, however, was much more appealing.  The girls look great, love Soo-young with her long hair and Sunny with the short blond wig, and I enjoyed their comeback performances.

3. Introducing the new Invincible YouthIt was announced that season two of Invincible Youth was being cast and that filming was soon to begin.  The new G8 consists of returning member Sunny and her SNSD sister Hyoyeon, KARA‘s Ji-young, Amber of f(x), miss A maknae Suzy, Bora of Sistar, Jewelry‘s Yewon, and Woori of Rainbow.  The first season was surprisingly touching as the girls learned to work on the farm, make relationships with each other, and show fans their personalities.  The new cast looks promising with many variety rookies, but in the end it’ll all come down to the chemistry between the girls.  I’m disappointed that there’s no ‘unnie’ figure to replace Kim Shin-young, with the MCs announced as Boom, Ji Hyun-woo, and Lee Su-geun–it’ll bring a different feel to the show.

2.  Sexy in the City

Yoon Eun-hye and T.O.P. brought ‘sexy’ to the city, New York City to be exact, in a photo spread for W Korea and Calvin Klein Jeans and Underwear.  The pics were taken in a hotel in New York (again I question why one would travel to another country for a photo shoot and take pics in a hotel?) and T.O.P. and his noona heat up the page as modern and chic lovers.  The whole spread will be available in the November issue of W Korea.

1. Tablo makes a comeback

He went through hell and back fighting against a relentless netizen group  dead set on proving that he was lying about attending Stanford University.  And even though in the end Tablo proved that he wasn’t lying, there are still doubts, his career was left in shreds, his family was shaken, and he was no longer the same confident singer of Epik High we all came to know and love.  Luckily, the music lives on in him and after taking a long break and switching ‘families’ to YG Entertainment, Tablo released part one of his comeback the album Fever’s End which included the track “Airbag” featuring Naul, that was just…  awesome.   Tablo, it’s good to have you back.

Those were the 5 Things I LOVED in Kpop last week, were they yours?

Yoon Eun-hye and T.O.P’s combo makes me giggle…..or maybe just top. But I am glad that I am not the only one who has trouble with the whole deal going somewhere around the world for a photoshoot that’s gonna be IN a freakin’ hotel!!!!

I support tablo, dude just need some lovin’

I swear in the states it is called slander and you can get sue for talking false shit about people. Korea needs to make laws about issues like this.I can’t believe that a few false rumors can just destroy people’s careers in korea –haters shouldn’t have that much power. those people are just mean cyber bullies. That shit doesn’t go down in the states very well anymore. Since bullying isn’t tolerated here anymore.

LOL top’s photo was funny..he is the only one that can look that hot with his clothes still on and all cover up.

    • tyounge1991

Slander is when you profit from “false shit” of course you’d have to prove it to be false first. And yes that shit does ‘go down’ in the US quite often.

      • Issy

Slander refers to spoken form of defamation.  Anything written is considered libel.  It’s much easier to sue someone for libel than slander.  Slander is nearly impossible to prove unless the person does it in front of a lot of witnesses or admits to it.

The person committing the defamation doesn’t have to profit from it to get sued.  A person being defamed, in the US for example, has to prove is that it hurt them financially and that the statements are false.  In the cases of a celebrity they additionally have to prove it was done with a reckless disregard with the truth with the intent to cause harm to their reputation (probably why Tablo went to Standford to prove he had the degree, once Stanford confirmed it anyone saying it was still not true was guilty of slander/libel under that condition).

It probably wasn’t worth the expense to sue some random idiots on the internet.  I personally found the entire situation absolutely insane.

        • Mer

I think he should still sue and take the people that started it and still stand by their statements for all their worth.  That guy knew exactly what he was doing and the whole incident cause him and his family financial and mental harm.  This would be a no-brainer in court,

SNSD’s “The Boys” would have been a good track if it wasn’t for the cringe-worthy rapping. Their live performances have been ok, no one particularly stood out except for Sunny and Seo-hyun, too bad they only get like 2-3 lines.

Tablllooo~~~ I am so happy that he is able to rise up after all that has happened to him. The first part of his new album is stupendous, Korea needs more music like this.

Or the song could have been sung by a real singing group.  One with the charisma and/or swag to pull it off. BEG probably would have owned a song like that.

“The pics were taken in a hotel in New York (again I question why one

    - Honestly I totally forgot they went all the way to New York to shoot this BUT snap what a waste of money. They should’ve at least taken one picture outside.

With Tablo’s comeback it only just hit me now how big a issue this whole “Standford” thing was. I remember back when it was happening and reading an article here and there (which was pretty much people are doubting Tablo’s Degree to Tablo providing proof and Standford speaking up on his behalf) to me I didn’t think it was that big of a deal because it was clear cut that he did graduate and that everything was legit so I thought it would just fly over and that would be that.
It genuinely shocks and disgusts me that he had to go through all this hate and scrutiny just because people couldn’t/didn’t want to believe that this man was not only talented/famous but that he was also well-educated. I really hope everyone in Korea backs him in his comeback because he deserves all the love and support. Can’t wait to hear Part II of his album ^^

I’m disappointed that SNSD lip-synched during SMTown New York. They lip-synch far too much.

    • Anon

That’s the sm way. Regardless of how talented they are, they all lipsynch regularly from dbsk downwards.

looks like one of the writers of Seoulbeats doesn’t think Tablo sold out?
    x)

I like ‘Airbag’ a little more than ‘Bad’; I didn’t want anything to ruin Tablo’s comeback for me so I listened to ‘Part 1′ altogether.

Honestly, TOP and Yoon Eun-hye could have just saved whoever’s money that flew them to NYC and taken the pics in KOREA in an American-inspired hotel; and no one would be the wiser…
tsk tsk, a little wasting of money there, W Korea?

  • springheart

Love Tablo album as well, bought it and love it on my first listen. I can’t wait for his part B album. About the photo shoot, why is Yoon Eun Hye the only one who is showing some skin? and when can we see Top with no shirt on. lol Maybe he’s still insecure about his body but dang, imagine TOP with Won Bin’s body, droooool.

  • Hoboinheels

Can we have an article just on Tablo and how awefretastic his new album is?

I’m hoping the rest of the photo shoot does not look as awkward as the first pic!  lol

  • Anon

looks like there are no top stans here. they did actually shoot pics outside in the city. at least top did. he did several photoshoots while he was there. one for w korea with yoon eun hye, one for 1st look – http://www.bigbangupdates.com/2011/10/preview-of-tops-pictorial-for-1st-look.html and a fashion film for calvin klein jeans – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gUHFMINagNU.

and tablo’s album is simply terrific. can’t wait for part 2 and his performance on inki tonight!

im quite new to kpop and until several weeks ago (when i first heard about Tablo) ive been always listening to and/or reading articles about girl/boy group (the only soloist i know is lee hyori). now that i am finally ‘introduced’ to tablo, i was like, wow, its a whole new thing (no offense to other kpop fan sunbae, im really2 a newbie here n i dont live in korea so im not familiar w/ music outside kpop by the idols). tablo is simply amazing, congratulations to him for joining YG, from what i read about his stanford thingy i think joining YG is a perfect thing already.

as for TOP and yoon eun hye, i have to agree with Naime, i havent seen (nor felt) any sexiness from their pictures yet, it looked kinda awkward. hope the ones in the whole spread will give me goosebumps lol, cause i love both of em.

    • lawd

doubt it, top looks like he is not interested at all but yoon eun hye looks amazing, i’m not as new to the kpop scene but there are really good artist out there. i didnt know at first that there is more in kpop besides 4minutes, 2pms, and snsds.
