Welcome to the literal latest—pun intended—edition of Best of Weekly Music Shows! The past couple of weeks have been quite adventurous, but we’re back! Of course, we’re not the only ones making a return. BTS, Victon, The East Light, N.Flying, Kanto, and G-reyish all had comebacks as well. In addition to that, we saw official debuts from UNI. T and Khan.

As far as wins go, we had a couple of firsts. Rookie group (G)I-dle took home their first trophies on SBS The Show and Mnet M! Countdown. Moments like these are precious to both the group and the fans, so it’s a wonderful treat to witness such events. BTS surprisingly had a first, too, with their win on MBC Show! Music Core, which is due to the fact that the show recently reinstated their trophy system. The group also won on KBS Music Bank and SBS Inkigayo.

Originally, I wasn’t sure about making a list, but it would be a shame to ignore the great performances that did happen, so here are my choices.

Dreamcatcher‘s “You And I”, KBS Music Bank, May 25, 2018

Let’s get into this intro. This was an elaborate opening. We have capes. We have large flags. We have Yoohyeon being lifted up in the air, giving me flashbacks to my former cheerleader days. What we have is a group that’s doing a lot of great things on stage. They need to stick around for the sake of my personal enjoyment.

(G)I-dle’s “Latata”, KBS Music Bank, May 25, 2018

There are very few groups who’ve garnered popularity so quickly. (G)I-dle is getting a lot of love for their sharp moves and chic appearance. My main problem with girl groups is I can never pick a freaking bias. Soyeon had me until Yuqi opened her mouth to sing. She sounds so unique, and I’m attracted to her timbre. Also, Minnie is extra adorable.

UNI. T’s “No More”, Mnet M! Countdown, May 24, 2018

Some conservative minds might take offense to the open sexuality in this performance, but I’m here for it. My jaw dropped lower than that drop the ladies did at the beginning. I was excited before their debut because their pre-debut stages were always solid. It’s good to see things have only improved. I can’t wait to see what else is in store for this project group.

The East Light’s “Love Flutters”, Mnet M! Countdown, May 24, 2018

Before the groaning starts, yes, I’m about to gush over how cute they are again. It’s a scientific fact that they are adorable. Ask Neil deGrasse Tyson. Disputable science aside, they have literally grown into their own. They’re just teens, but they exude a boyish charm that’s naturally exuberant. The way they interact on stage and their lively expressions makes them a group that’s fascinating to watch grow.

BTS’ “Airplane Pt. 2”, Mnet M! Countdown, May 24, 2018

Not all groups are given a chance to perform multiple songs on the same show. Usually fans are only given this treat the first week of comebacks, which is what makes this stage all the more special. It’s the first performance aired of this song, and hopefully, it won’t be the last. From Jungkook‘s chair intro to RM and Jin‘s call and reply, this stage was possibly one of their strongest comebacks yet. The focused camera work was particularly satisfying, given how poorly their comeback in the U.S. was filmed.
