Another week has gone by in February, bringing us more comebacks and performances on the weekly music shows and more! The Gaon Chart K-pop Awards were this week, so check out Gabrielle’s recap of the event and performances. This week’s winners were Girl’s Day taking another win seven weeks in and on their goodbye stage at Mnet‘s M! Countdown and B.A.P having a pretty darn good week with three wins, one each on MBC Music‘s Show! Champion, KBS Music Bank, and SBS Inkigayo. MBC Music Core did not air this week due to the Winter Olympics. Comebacks included Park Ji-yoon, Ladies’ Code, S.M. the Ballad‘s Jonghyun and Taeyeon, and more. I’ve chosen my favorites from this week, but don’t forget to comment with your own!

S.M. the Ballad (Exo‘s Chen and Zhang Li Yin)’s “Breath,” S.M. the Ballad Joint Recital, February 12, 2014

I suppose this doesn’t officially count as being part of a music show, but it’s technically a performance from this week. It really does make a huge difference who the performers of their song are. I watched all the stages for the Korean version of this song, and there is such a large difference between the Chinese and Korean performances for this song. Chen and Zhang Li Yin do an excellent job of performing the duet, showing how a ballad performance can still be dynamic and enthralling despite a general lack of movement.

Kye Bum Zu feat. New Champ‘s “Game Over,” MBC Music Show! Champion, February 12, 2014

Where was I when this jam came out? The performance includes New Champ featuring in the track though he doesn’t actually participate on the official track. Instead, he starred in the music video for the song. His inclusion with the rap is a little sloppy, especially when you can hear the original backtrack and the difference in timing. But the overall stage, despite being unfortunately short, is good.

B.A.P’s “1004 (Angel),” MBC Music’s Show! Champion, February 12, 2014

What a week for B.A.P! They continue with their strong performances with their latest. Here’s their Show! Champion one, completely with cheesy effects and after shocks.

BTS‘ “Boy in Luv,” Mnet M! Countdown, February 13, 2014

While the combination of their lyrics, their age, and their tough attitude for the song make it a little difficult to take their image seriously, this performance is solid. Mnet did a good job of capturing the choreography for the most part. I really like the moves during Jung-kook’s second part, where the rest are separated into halves. Also good was how J-hope’s jump was captured. Vocally though, it seems like there’s a super loud backtrack that makes it hard to tell who is live and who isn’t.

Ladies’ Code’s “So Wonderful,” SBS Inkigayo, February 16, 2014

The girl’s group return is obviously similar to the Wonder Girls’ “Nobody,” but different enough for it to still be theirs. The song actually sounds like it has vestiges of their last song, “Pretty Pretty,” and much less of some of the gimmick. Or maybe that was the sound of their fanchants.
