[Video] J-Pop Run Devil Run Live

12

SNSD debuted the Japanese remake of their hit “Run Devil Run” on Japan’s  Music Station. I have nothing to say about their dancing because it was performed well. However, I have read several positive and negative comments about the girls’ Japanese pronunciation. Can any readers who speak Japanese give their verdicts?

First time I’ve actually liked this song!
Performance was fierce and yes kinda hot! lol

I really like this version! Somehow it sounds more fierce and some of the girls sound even better in this japanese version! The performance was great too, but where’s DBSK’s performance?

I speak fairly fluent Japanese and have lived in Japan going on 2 years. I’ve also studied Korean for a while, so I feel I’m a fairly good judge of pronunciation for both and… ugh, I do like SNSD, so this is kinda hard to say, but their Japanese pronunciation just sounds like… well, Koreans speaking Japanese. As an SNSD fan, it’s embarrassing to listen to. Korean has all the sounds Japanese does, so one would think it’d be a snap for them to pronounce Japanese, but unfortunately, the girls all sound like total beginners.
I’d heard So Young has experience in Japanese, and her quickness in speech reflects that, I think, but the pacing of Japanese and Korean are different and it’s something that the girls will just have to pay attention to and internalize in order to master it.

So… yes, sadly, their pronunciation is not that good =X
But neither is the pronunciation of all of Big Bang’s members.
    Or Kara.
    Or Brown Eyed Girls.
    Or 4minute.

DBSK is probably the only Korean group whose members speak really good Japanese, in my opinion.

I was just about to say that! I only know basic japanese, but you can hear the korean tones in all the groups that just debuted last year!

They sound like foreigners singing Japanese, because the are. -_- anyway, I still like this live performance, but the korean live performances are better, given they can sing in Korean better, because their from Korea -_- I understand that they wont sound as good as they do in Korean, while their in japan..so I don’t really have any complaints.

Underwhelming then again it’s not like RDR is one of SNSD’s best songs I’d take SNSD’s gee and genie over oh hoot and RDR any day of the week. Same expressions, nothing exciting or interesting in terms of vocals and sound. For a concept that was supposed to be “fierce” and sexy it left me cold. Are companies gonna ship their kpop idols to Japan for a week and rehash old songs over and over again?

Trumps all their Korean RDR perfs, and I don’t even like this song.

Second round of obsession! I personally think it’s even better than the korean version and they totally rocked that stage!

I study japanese and just began studying korean and I have to say their japanese is not very good. They have very strong accents but I have to say this was the clearest song of all their japanese releases if you compare to genie or oh.
It sounds like they just learned the lyrics phonetically and not correctly, like someone said they are speaking japanese as it were korean.
Sooyoung is the strongest member in the sence that her japanese has no accent at all and she is very fluent in it.
