“Korean Style” a No No in Thailand

24

The latest fashion trend in Thailand right now is copying Korean girl groups by wearing hot pants (a.k.a. booty shorts), calling it the “Korean style”. This trend came about because groups like SNSD show more legs than a centipede.

This concerns the Thai government and they have the right to be since dengue fever is putting everybody on high alert (you can read about it here). With 90,000 people who have contracted the disease and 100 plus deaths in Thailand alone, the Deputy Minister of Public Health encourages girls to wear long pants to better protect themselves from mosquito bites.

not only that, it’s like proving that SNSD influences asian youth badly, particularly in south east asia, where girls are not encouraged to wear short skirts and super short shorties.

I have nothing against wearing miniskirts and short shorts if you are wearing those on special occassions like parties (depending on what kind)or if you are working as a bar hostess (no offense). But wearing those while strolling in the public–especially during the night—will make you headlining the news frontpage. In case you do not get it…RAPED and worst.. KILLED. While miniskirts or shorts is not the usual reason why a girl gets raped or molested, those outfits are not safe to wear in public, walking and commuting. Just because it is a trend, does not mean it’s all right to wear this.

I am glad Thailand government raised their concerns about girls wearing miniskirts and short skirts (I am Filipino btw, and so far, our culture can sometimes related with Thais, and their culture is way understandable). However, I am hoping they are concerned not only of the girls’ safety against dengue fever but also furthern sexual crimes as well as harrassment.

If you check our schools in the Philipines, you can see that the skirts of highschool and some college students are fucking longer that their counterparts in Japan, China, Korea or even United States—to think our climate is relatively warm. If there are short skirts being worn by college students, at least they are 2-3 inches above the knee and those are pencil-cut, not pleeted. Pleeted miniskirts can make your panties visible especially when blown by the wind. It’s not even comfortable when you are given a weird stare by others.

one more thing, when our own celebrities wear short skirts and pants on their performances, at least we do not imitate them.

    ah..so mosquitoes only bite legs.

    • Haiyen

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA right on!!!! I initially thought they would ban it for fear of STDs (you know, wearing short-short in a country famous for sex tourism and pedophiles like Thailand??? ;)) Turned out my mind was way dirtier than I thought :”>

  • Daydream

wait, so boys who wear shorts are less likely to get dengue fever?

    • Jazie

    What a stupid government

  • jluv

It’s funny how SNSD is brought into every issue here like what they’re wearing or doing is the worst, when what every other girl group wears makes SNSD look like innocent babies! And blaming Korea for this new “korean style” is ridiculous! The panty shorts and mini skirts have been the trend in thailand for the last decade!

    • Lalaland

Thats just a haters agenda.i bet thailand gvrnmt didnt even mention a word ‘girls group’ in their statement..
