It seems that YG Entertainment will soon be feeling the heat of their own Kpop controversy. A few weeks ago, Big Bang leader/solo act G-Dragon was accused of plagiarism when netizens spotted the similarity between two tracks from his first solo album “Heartbreaker” and two songs by Western artists Flo Rida and Oasis. After enough media attention, the original owners of the songs stated that they too believed the material to be plagiarised and would make a final decision in the upcoming months.
Sony ATV Publishing has finally made their ruling and issued YG Entertainment a “warning”. In the music industry a warning means that because the original owners of a song judged it to be plagiarised, the company that is being “served” with the lawsuit is no longer allowed to promote that song- at least no longer “illegally” without paying the owners.
Not only is G-Dragon’s music promotion being halted, but Big Bang’s 2008 single “With U” and 2NE1’s “I Don’t Care” have also been found to be plagiarized.
Sony will release their official ruling regarding G-Dragon’s case soon.
Lionel Richie’s “Just Go”
2NE1’s “I Don’t Care”
G-Dragon’s “Heartbreaker” and “Butter Fly” vs. Flo Rider’s “Right Round” and Oasis’s “She’s Electric”
Also under investigation is Big Bang’s “With U”.
