Welcome back to another installment of our weekly music show recap! This week we’re still celebrating the recent U-Kiss and Rania comebacks, as well as keeping tabs on acts that have been busy strutting their stuff for a while now, which include the likes of B.A.P., T-ara, and newcomers like 24K, 100%, and Fiestar! As always, its been a week full of music, so let’s get started with these noteworthy stages!
B.A.P. “Crash,” 120927 Mnet Countdown
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OcQ2429ndZc&w=560&h=315]We kick off this week in music with my favorite rookies of the year, the one and only B.A.P. “Crash” is such a fun and light-hearted song compared to the other promo tracks we’ve had from B.A.P., and somehow the boys maintain an amazing energy when performing this track. As always, the raps are fresh, the signature whistles are clearly audible, and the boys are electrifying! (Though I’m kind of over these tacky stage outfits…)
24K “Hurry Up,” 120928 Music Bank
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wC_cBXzqPhQ&w=560&h=315]24K is Choeun Entertainment’s latest idol debut boy group. God only knows how low my expectations are for rookies, but 24K really blew me away with “Hurry Up”–no joke, I’ve had this song on repeat for, oh, I don’t know, 30 minutes? Something about those rough, raw baritones and rappers just make me crazy. And I’m so glad they kept the chorus in Korean rather than doing it in English. The delivery packs an edgy punch that makes 24K a standout in my book.
Fiestar “Vista” 120928 Music Bank
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fLRTO4YMPA&w=560&h=315]Finally, a girl group debut that doesn’t fall flat. LOEN Entertainment’s Fiestar recently made their debut onto the idol scene with “Vista,” and the girls have been spicing up the music stages with their upbeat single. The jazz instrumentals and the latin beats really make this song pop, and the girls are beaming with an energy that bring this song to life. This year I’ve found very few other girl group debuts to be as satisfying as this one, so these girls are definitely worth the watch.
U-Kiss “Stop Girl,” 120929 Music Core
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJPCt-VctN4&w=560&h=315]U-Kiss takes a rare moment to channel a sleek and mature image for their smooth pop single “Stop Girl.” I’m absolutely loving the suits they’re using for this concept and the Backstreet Boys-esque, 90’s pop flavoring in the chorus. Though I usually take any moment I can to spill my haterade all over U-Kiss, I will say they strung a good chord with this single.
T-ara “Sexy Love,” 120929 Music Core
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Qcs-cr6y5U&w=560&h=315]I preferred this performance of “Sexy Love” over the ones done this week because of the outfits. I think the white suits give the song a little more class and the choreography a different finesse than do the more costume-y looking wardrobes T-ara has for “Sexy Love.” The beats in this song are as catchy as ever, and the choreography is fun to watch. The girls looked a little dead in my opinion, but what’s new with T-ara?
100% “Bad Boy,” 120929 Music Core
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3kxd_nube_4&w=560&h=315]100% is another new debut, and I thought maybe I’d give them a chance to impress me. Their matching outfits reminded me a little of the 2PM “Again and Again” era and their earnest delivery made me flashback to U-Kiss’s fledging days, so they hit my nostalgia pretty hard. The song is too high in pitch for me, but the choreography is clean and eerily in sync for this large of a group. Check them out.
Rania “Style” 120929 Music Core
[youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcjKfRjXhvc&w=560&h=315]Who would’ve thought there’d come a day where I actually thought Rania didn’t look overly-sexed up on stage? “Style” has an interesting ring to it, but Rania totally makes it all their own with their spunky delivery and confidence on stage. This song has a great beat and the glam factor in both the song and the concept make it a great performance to watch!
And thats a wrap for this week Seoulmates! I hope you enjoyed the selections from this week’s Mnet Countdown, Music Bank, and Music Core! Let us know who’s knocking your socks off and who’s falling flat! Stay tuned for the next music recap!
