In line with my previous mixtape, this edition is inspired by South Korean politics. On June 3, after a botched martial law attempt, impeachment, and campaigning, South Korea will elect a new president. While there are considerable stakes, the results will assuredly mark the commencement of something new.

But, aren’t new beginnings always happening?

In honor of struggles and fresh starts, this week’s mixtape is dedicated to times of hardship, transition, and coming out on the other side. Whether that change comes with the elation of Taeyeon‘s solo debut single “I,” confident strides in a new direction a la Kara‘s “Step,” or the more painful breaks from the past such as Day6‘s “My Day” and TXT‘s “Farewell, Neverland,” each track embarks toward something new — alongside a goodbye. It may be scary, it may it be wonderful, but the future is waiting for us to embrace it.

So sure, New Years or spring may be the common points for new beginnings, but who’s to say June can’t make room for a reset?
