It was previously reported that Jang Geun-suk and Moon Geun-young would star in the upcoming kdrama Mary Stayed Out All Night, but there was no word on who would be the second male lead. Now, the third party in the drama’s love triangle has been confirmed as actor Kim Jae-wook. Kim Jae-wook is best known for his roles in the Coffee Prince and Antique Bakery. Most recently, he played the troubled Hong Tae-sung in the kdrama Bad Guy.
The drama is based on the manhwa of the same name 매리는 외박중, written by Won Soo-yeon who also wrote the original manhwa for Full House. The drama centers around Mary (Geun-young), who decides to give up on dating then all of a sudden finds herself in a love triangle with an indie rocker (Geun-suk) and a man who is the “ideal” type (Jae-wook). The drama will be a joint production between KBS and Japan’s ACC Korea.
I was already excited when I heard about the casting of Geun-young and Geun-suk, but with Jae-wook added to the mix, I’m ecstatic. I hope the screenplay by In Eun-ah (Goong) lives up to the hype. I’m not too worried though, it was reportedly very good which is why Geun-suk took the role even though he was hesitant to play a musician again.
Mary Stayed Out All Night is scheduled to debut on November 8th filling in the Monday-Tuesday spot for KBS after SungKyunKwan Scandal completes its run.
