It’s been five years since Day6 last visited Singapore for their “Gravity” tour. Five years is a long time, during which much has changed. The band is now a quartet, they’ve completed their mandatory military service, and they’re selling out concert halls domestically and internationally.

In 2019, despite their growing international fanbase, Day6 didn’t quite manage to fill all 5000 seats at The Star Theatre in Singapore. Fast-forward to last Friday night, and it was completely different. There wasn’t a single empty seat.

Luckily, I had the chance to see them for an additional 15 minutes during soundcheck. Despite performing only three songs, “You Were Beautiful”, “Healer”, and “Welcome to the Show”, the energy was already undeniable. The Star Theatre, known for its strict rules, had MyDays hesitant about standing when Day6 appeared during soundcheck. Perhaps sensing our bottled-up excitement, Young K encouraged MyDays to feel free to stand and dance, a perfect start to what was about to be an unforgettable night.

The setlist during the concert took me back to 2019. Day6 sang familiar classics like “Shoot Me”, “I Wish”, and “I Wait”, as well as fan favourites such as “You Were Beautiful”, “Congratulations”, and “Letting Go”. Alongside these tracks, newer hits like “Happy”, “Welcome to the Show”, and “She Smiled” showcased Day6’s continued evolution.

Hearing similar songs might seem repetitive for someone who saw them twice in 2019. But, it wasn’t. Instead, it felt profoundly nostalgic, making me look back on how much the band grew over the last few years. If anything, “Forever Young” is proof of the timelessness of Day6’s songs. Five years on, the tracks I’ve heard live still don’t feel old. Just like the name of their concert, these songs are forever young.

During their first ment, Young K shared about the setlist, explaining that it featured songs that will make us cry, songs that bring joy, and songs that are deeply heart-wrenching. The theme of “Forever Young” felt especially meaningful, as he revealed that it symbolized their youth and the essence of their journey.

Just like in 2019, Day6 encouraged us to relieve our stress, a fitting comment for a Friday night show, especially in a city as stressed as Singapore. Young K, in particular, made the experience more personal by introducing certain songs with heartfelt explanations. For instance, before singing “Monster”, he asked, “Are you feeling lonely? I wrote this when I was feeling lonely. Know that Day6 will always be with you”.

The final quarter of the concert was especially uplifting, featuring hopeful songs like “Happy”, “I Wish”, and “Welcome to the Show”. These tracks left us on a high note, filled with positive energy as we parted ways. Adding to the warmth that evening, Wonpil also took a moment to wish us happiness and reassured us that we’ve done well this year, a simple but meaningful gesture that resonated with MyDays.

It’s these small, thoughtful moments that remind me of how Day6 are more than just performers—they are artists and musicians who want to connect with MyDays on a personal level. They aren’t just singing to us. They’re singing for us.

Performing nearly 30 songs, with sets of four to five tracks at a time, Day6 proved themselves to be an unstoppable powerhouse. However, compared to their “Gravity” tour, “Forever Young” lacked designated solo stages where the members could fully showcase their individuality. Instead, “Shoot Me” only provided brief spotlights for Dowoon and Sungjin, offering them their small solo moments.

Although both concerts were held in the same venue, visually, “Forever Young” felt more eye-catching and cohesive as compared to “Gravity”. While there were no VCR segments this time, the stage was anything but dull. Kinetic typographical lyric videos (like for “Zombie” and “Happy”) played in the background, adding vibrancy and kinetic energy to an otherwise minimal stage setup. This dynamic visual element entertained our eyes while Day6 captivated our ears.

Day6’s return to Singapore after five years was nothing short of memorable. “Forever Young” reminded me of just how incredible Day6 is and why I’ve never fallen out of touch with them.

Their growth, both musically and personally, was clear in every aspect of the show, from their boundless energy to the carefully curated setlist. The timelessness of their songs, coupled with their sincerity towards MyDays, made for a truly unforgettable Friday night. Day6 proved once again that their music remains forever young, resonating deeply with MyDays, old and new alike, and truly living up to their “superband” status.
