I’ve always had a soft spot for musicals. They’re the thing I go to when I want to feel larger than life; when I want music that doesn’t just get in my head, but pulls me into another world. Grease, Newsies!, Wicked, Singing In The Rain, Chicago, Footloose, anything by Rodgers and Hammerstein, I love it all. Plus, the songs for musicals always seem to have a certain je ne sais qois that supersedes the setting; bringing that other world to you even when you’ve left the theatre.
So, today, I’ve compiled a playlist of K-pop songs that are perfectly in line with their own theatricality. These range from tracks destined for chorus lines or Busby Berkeley numbers to intimate duets and heartbreaking ballads. The one element required is sounding like it belongs on a stage.
