Welcome back to another week of Best of Weekly Music Shows, where we pick out a few of our favourite music show performances of the week and share them with you. Please feel free to share yours in the comments down below!
This week, GFriend achieved their first win for “Fingertip” on SBS The Show, as did BtoB did with “Movie” on MBC Show Champion. Twice took home another two wins for “Knock Knock” on Mnet M! Countdown and on KBS Music Bank. Congratulations to all the winning groups!
B.A.P really can’t seem to catch a break, as Himchan was taken out of “Wake Me Up” promotions due to an injury. Twice’s Jihyo will also be sitting out “Knock Knock” stages to recover from her knee injury. If that wasn’t bad enough, Got7’s Jackson will be taking a break from all activities until March 19th to recuperate from some health issues. If you’re wondering why a winner for SBS Inkigayo wasn’t listed above, this is because the show did not air this week due to live sports coverage.
B.A.P’s “Wake Me Up”, Mnet M! Countdown, March 16, 2017
This is the first performance that Himchan sat out on, and I was a little taken aback when I didn’t spot the usual hot-pink-haired member onstage. Nevertheless, the rest of the group more than made up for his absence. I am constantly in awe of the strength and power of their performances in terms of vocal and rap, dancing, and general stage presence. Although we miss the usual fan-whistling, their styling for this stage was the best out of all their music show performances this week, which is pretty much why I had to share it in this lineup!

BtoB’s “Someday” and “Movie”, KBS Music Bank, March 17, 2017
I don’t know if this is a new thing with KBS Music Bank, but I’ve recently noticed that they have been combining multiple performances by one artist or group into a single video. I’m not complaining, though, since it’s less clicking! The performance that I wanted to draw attention to was BtoB’s “Someday”. It’s very different from their fun “Movie” stage, but this ballad performance also reminds us that the group, known for their questionable facial expressions, can show a more serious and emotional side. As always, their live singing is spot on with perfect harmonisation; this further shows depth and conveys emotional vulnerability in this melancholic track.
NCT Dream’s “Dunk Shot”, MBC Show Music Core, March 18, 2017
To be honest, I was a little wary of NCT Dream at first — they’re just so young, but the boy group always brings to the stage some spring-appropriate freshness and brightness. “Dunk Shot” is actually one of their B-sides off their latest album The First, and it is a nice change from their “My First and My Last” performances. Notable moments from their stage include the bright and colourful outfits (which are actually much better than some of the clothes that we’ve seen on other NCT subunits) and the nonsensical lyrics during the chorus.

Ailee’s “I Will Go To You Like the First Snow”, KBS Yu Huiyeol’s Sketchbook, March 11, 2017
This Goblin OST has been dominating the charts since it was released ages ago, so it’s safe to say that the track has been very well-received by the public. This live performance of “I Will Go To You Like the First Snow” was even better than the studio version — Ailee’s live singing was not perfect by any means, but there was depth in the performance that really added to the sadness and melancholy of the track. On a more superficial note, I am really not loving her unflattering outfit here (I’m sure that nobody in the world could pull off this atrocious excuse of clothing), but her vocal skills more than make up for it.
Got7’s “Q”, Mnet M! Countdown, March 16, 2017
I had a seriously hard time choosing between Got7’s “Never Ever” and “Q”. Although the performance aspect for their title track is drool-worthy, I eventually settled with this sweet and adorable B-side. The choreography for this song is kept minimal, yet shows off the group’s cute side. It’s also nice to see the members genuinely having fun on stage, and their spontaneous aegyo moments made me literally squeal aloud. If you’re a JJ Project fan, you definitely need to check out this stage, since there are screenshot-worthy moments between the duo. The only thing missing from this performance was Jackson — we hope he gets well soon and comes back in tip-top shape!
