Welcome back to another round of the SB Mixtape!
Despite being born in 1994, I love the 1980s. I love the cheesy blockbusters like Top Gun, the still-relevant teen flicks of 16 Candles, Footloose, and The Breakfast Club, and I have actually watched and enjoyed both the 21 Jump Street tv series and Jem and the Holograms. But most of all, I love 80s music.
When I was a baby, my dad would give me my bottles while watching Headbanger’s Ball on MTV2, and from that, my love of 80s music was born. Poison, AC/DC, and Quiet Riot provided the soundtrack to my childhood, but my adoration of 80s music quickly grew past that. The high-energy synths of Stock Aitken Waterman, the British New Wave, the New Romantics, the resurgence of R&B, punk’s shift into more mainstream sounds, the Golden Age of Hip-hop; I love it all.
And it appears that I am not alone; the 1980s keep showing up in K-pop. From Infinite and the Wonder Girls to 4ten, the 80s are everywhere and I am okay with that.
What did you think of my blast to the past, readers? If there are any 80s songs you love that I didn’t list, leave them in the comments!
