This week’s mixtape focuses on the Korean hip hop award season. Featured will be nominees from awards shows such as the Korean Hip Hop Awards and the Korean Music Awards. Surprise inclusions include jerd and Mind Combined. jerd is having the perfect start to her career with her debut album and MV nominated this year.
Don Malik, EXN and Kim Oki are the noticeable snubs this year. Dress & Kid Milli’s album Cliche is up for Hip hop album of the year despite being more alternative-rock than rap. Khundi Panda being up for hip hop Artist of The Year puts a big smile on my face! His hard work these last two years have put him into the discussion of being the most acclaimed hip hop artist in South Korea.
Interestingly, DPR Ian isn’t considered a “new artist” instead he finds himself nominated in the R&B category. I thought Ian would be an assured winner for the “Best New Artist” award. DPR Ian is also technically up for best hip hop MV as he directed DPR Live‘s “Summer Tights”. Overall, it seems a very unpolished nomination season this year but the mixtape still sounds good, enjoy!
