This may be an unpopular opinion, but I love ballads. I love being completely overwhelmed by the emotion in a singer’s voice and the instruments swelling in the background. I love closing my eyes and just being in the song for a little while.
While this playlist is nowhere close to having all of my favorite ballads (there are so many), these songs are the ones that I have been thinking about lately. Sometimes I find myself humming Hyuk‘s “Boy With a Star,” which destroyed me the first time I heard it and continues to do so, or once again, trying to remember that the melody I was singing was Younha‘s “Dark Cloud.”
And this would not be an emotional ballad playlist without Shinee. While I love “An Ode to You” and “Selene 6.23,” a recent favorite I discovered after taking a deep dive into their discography was “The Reason.”
If you need to dwell in all of the emotions, I hope these songs can bring some comfort by being right there with you.
