Hello readers; hope you are having a fine Sunday.

Yesterday marked five years since singer Amy Winehouse‘s passing. Born in 1983, the British singer was as famous for her struggle with drug and alcohol addiction as she was for her music — the two colliding to create international hit single “Rehab.”

The album from which that song came, Back to Black, was a commercial and critical success; it was also the last studio album Winehouse released before she died of alcohol poisoning in 2011.

Amy Winehouse was no stranger to performing covers — her version of “Valerie” with Mark Ronson is arguably more famous than The Zutons‘ original — and in turn, she has become a popular choice for singers today. Singing competitions like K-pop Star and I See Your Voice have seen Winehouse songs grace their stage. Idol covers are a bit rarer, but there are performances like this chill and casual version of “Rehab” from Baek Ye-rin.

A rather interesting tribute I have seen are photoshoots, with singers like Ali and Mamamoo‘s Solar donning the beehive and winged eyeliner look that Winehouse is most remembered for.

Readers, do you have a favourite Amy Winehouse song? Is there anyone in K-pop you would like to see cover Amy Winehouse? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
