Welcome to this week’s ‘Best of Weekly Music Shows‘! This week had comebacks by A Pink, GOT7, Mamamoo, and more while Nicole made her solo debut, and Starship Entertainment released their next duet with Hyorin and Jooyoung. Kyuhyun‘s solo effort “At Gwanghwamun” took first place on MBC Music‘s >Show Champion, Mnet M! Countdown, KBS Music Bank, and MBC Music Core while Zhoumi nabbed first on SBS MTV The Show and Hi Suhyun on SBS Inkigayo. I’ve chosen a few of my favorite performances from this week, but please do comment with your own favorites as well!

Legend‘s “Lost,” MBC Music Show Champion, November 19, 2014

While watching videos for this post, I came across this rookie group. My knee-jerk reaction was to pass because I think I can’t handle any new groups for a long while, but I pressed play and found out that these guys aren’t half bad. They’ve got a good foundation vocally, and their song is a good one. Their choreography also uses multiple elements and stays visually appealing.

10cm‘s “쓰담쓰담,” Mnet M! Countdown, November 20, 2014

The simplicity of 10cm’s stage is its greatest draw. Just like for their previous stages, we’ve got a guy with a guitar and another guy singing. Because everything sounds so clean for the first portion of the song, the delicate additions of other instruments help the song blossom without out losing the initial intentions.

Seo Tai-ji‘s “Sogyeokdong,” Mnet M! Countdown, November 20, 2014

The way the stage was set up and filmed for Seo Tai-ji’s performance comes across as a mini-concert more than just a performance of a recent song. The powerful instrumental over the thin vocals makes for a captivating song that keeps moving at just the right pace.

Dynamic Duo (feat. Crush)’s cover of Song Chang-sik‘s “The Pied Piper,” KBS Immortal Song 2, November 22, 2014

So I’m a sucker for songs that really get the crowd pumping because then I’m really pumped just watching the video. This is one of those arrangements that hits all the right notes and gets me jamming along. The beginning that took the folk tune and transitioned it into a hip-hop beat was done just right. The song has a sudden drop down, but it builds up so nicely from there that I really can’t complain. Overall, this is a performance I watched multiple times.

Hi Suhyun’s “I’m Different,” SBS Inkigayo, November 23, 2014

Last for me this week is Hi Suhyun’s “I’m Different.” What sold me on this performance was how both girls look like they’re having fun with those little smiles every so often that keep a viewer engaged. Both do the dance moves with low energy, but it somehow makes the whole performance more natural and appropriate, especially when considering the past performances and dance history of both individuals.
