Welcome to Best of Weekly Music Shows! We’re looking back on all of the great performances of the week and picking out our favorites.

The music shows are still getting back into the groove of things, and EXO-K took first place on MBC Music Core and Show Champion, and also on MNet M!Countdown. While KBS Music Bank remains on hiatus, SBS Inkigayo is expected to return this week, so stay tuned!

Wheesung’s “Night and Day,” MBC Music Core, May 17, 2014

I’m a huge fan of “Night and Day,” and even though Wheesung sits during most of the performance, he still manages to keep your attention through some phenomenal vocal gymnastics. His voice is so powerful, keeping the song livelier than you’d expect a ballad to be.

Akdong Musician’s “Give Love,” MNet M!Countdown, May 15, 2014

Akdong Musician has so much charm and have attracted so many fans since their debut last month. “Give Love” is the third single, and unfortunately the last, from their album, but this performance gives you the sweetness and quirkiness that they’re known for.

NS Yoon-G’s “If I Love You,” MBC Music Core, May 17, 2014

I really like NS Yoon-G’s follow-up single. “If I Love You” is a refreshing and catchy ballad, contrasting the sexier lead single “Yasisi” well. NS Yoon-G clearly doesn’t do much dancing in her performances, but I still enjoyed her stage all the same. I actually didn’t mind the simplicity this time around.

EXO-K’s “Overdose,” MNet M!Countdown, May 15, 2014

I think this has been one of my favorite “Overdose” performances thus far. Visually, everything just worked for me: the stage design was great, the dancing was tight, and the members are looking more confident.

Eric Nam and SPICA’s Bo-hyung’s, “You in Blue,” MBC Music Travel Yesterday, May 11, 2014

I’m so sad to hear that Music Travel Yesterday has been cancelled, as the show has provided some wonderful covers by idols and non-idols alike. Alas, this cover of “You in Blue” is fantastic in its easygoing, jazzy flow. Eric and Bo-hyung’s voices are a perfect match, and their harmonies sound so light yet so powerful.
