seoulbeats_20131005_blockbOctober is finally here! Are all you k-pop fans ready for a month filled with epic K-drama debuts, long awaited K-pop comebacks and the K-popalooza building towards end-of-year festivities? Grab your eye packs and concealer because I see a lot of sleepless nights in all of our futures.

The following are the top 5 Things in K-pop that happened in K-pop last week that I think were a bit more special than the rest. If you’re not up-to-date on your K-pop and don’t like spoilers, turn back now or forever hold your ‘you spoiled <insert name here> for me’ comments.

5. 1N2D with APink

The girls of APink (and Gag Concert comedian Kim Min-gyeong) made a surprise visit to the set of 1N2D and played some games with the cast members in front of the KBS building. Through a series of past comments on the show, Joo Won had confessed his love for APink and I can only imagine that the PDs set this up for him as a going away present since he will soon be leaving the show. His hyungs let him pick his favorite member to play games with and after they each displayed their talents Joo Won picked APink leader Park Cho-rong as his favorite member. It was super cute seeing Joo Won as a bashful fan boy in front of his bias. Later when the girls were each making kim bap for their partner, Joo Won even sang APink’s debut song “I Don’t Know” to Cho-rong as she made his kim bap.

4. Chatting with Zion T

Zion T was one of the guests on the latest episode of Yoo Hee-yeol’s Sketchbook and other than singing a couple of his hits like “Babay” he sat down for a talk session with host Yoo Hee-yeol.  It was an entertaining interview with Yoo Hee-yeol getting Zion T to remove his shades and sing bits of a couple of songs–I can totally see him belting out some Stevie Wonder songs with that soulful voice of his.

3. Heir to the Throne?

It was a race to claim the throne on the latest episode of Running Man as a few members from the cast of the upcoming K-drama Heirs, Choi Jin-hyuk, Park Shin-hye and Kim Woo-bin, joined the cast as guest. Although with Running Man nothing is quite as it seems as the throne they were competing over might not have been the kind you were expecting as one of the challenges was Running Man vs. the Plungers. Yes, plungers. It doesn’t sound very challenging or funny until you add Lee Kwang-soo, Kim Woo-bin, and the epic fail of the team work of Jin-hyuk and Woo-bin to the mix. It was an overall enjoyable episode and if you haven’t already, you should definitely check out the whole episode.

2. A Spotless Mind

Superstar K4 top three finalist Jung Joon-young‘s debut song “Spotless Mind” was great and if it is anything like its inspiration–the 2004 movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind–it’s destined to be a hit. Love, love, love Jung Joon-young’s voice and the MV is as good as the song. The song has been on repeat all week.

1. The Master’s Sun

I love a good Hong Sisters‘ K-drama and Master’s Sun was definitely a good one. It was funny, had a great cast and a good story line. I wouldn’t say it the best K-drama’s of the year (it’s up there though), but it was one of the most enjoyable. Gong Hyo-jin was superb as the ghost seeing Tae Gong-shil, and I loved So Ji-sub‘s quirky and tortured millionaire Joo Joong-won. One of my fave parts from the last episode? What’s a horror rom-com without one last round of spirit possessions before our lead couple gets together?! Gong Hyo-jin was purrrrfect as a cat. The only good thing about the Master’s Sun ending?  Making way for the Heirs which I sincerely hope lives up to its hype–even half of it.

Those were the top 5 Things I LOVED in K-pop last week, were they yours?
