20130730_seoulbeats_gdragonLast week was a pretty good week in K-pop as you’ll see below.  This week… I don’t know.  First of all a Tropical Storm (Flossie, Flossie) is headed towards my home, the AC at work was broken, KCON announced that G-Dragon will be attending this year and… I’m not. VIPs, I feel your pain. Here’s to hoping that the rest of the week is better than today.

The following are the top 5 Things in K-pop that happened last week that I think were a bit more special than the rest.  If you’re not up-to-date on your K-pop and don’t like spoilers then blow the heck outta here because they are most definitely on the radar.

5. Sweeet 18

Loved ZE:A 5‘s performance on the last episode of Immortal Song 2 which was honoring the songs of composer Yoo Ho.  They performed the song “Sweet 18” and started of the sang rather sweetly, but changed it up patriotically later in the song in honor of the hit K-variety show Real Men that Hyung-shik is currently a cast member of. I was really impressed with Hyung-shik and Dong-Jun‘s singing–they do so many other activities that you sometimes forget that their first job was as a singer.

4. Princess Problems

Infinite Challenge did a Princess special this week and tried to tackle some of the problems that today’s princesses have to encounter like decorum, beauty, etiquette, dealing with the paparazzi and wardrobe malfunctions.  Here’s a hilarious clip from the show where Jung Hyung-don dressed as the Swan Princess tries to keep his composure while facing the press and walking down a red carpet of treadmills. He also poked fun at actress Yeo Min-jung‘s (fake?) wardrobe malfunction at the Puchon International Fantastic Film Festival.

3. An Homage to Tarantino

The Brown Eyed Girls made a come back with the song “Kill Bill” and an MV reminiscent of the Quentin Tarantino films of the same name. The MV was fun, the song solid and the girls… well, they were killer.

2. Can’t Nobody Stop Them

2NE1 made their return to K-variety with an appearance on this past week’s episode of Running Man. The girls did a great job and were super funny with maknae Minzy being the MVP of the day.  Dara definitely gets an Award for ‘Best Use of Hair in Self Defense’ for using her infamous palm tree ponytail to stave off an attack from Bom. Watch to see which member of 2NE1 just happens to be ‘baddest female’ after all.  Taeyang joined in some of the fun later on as they visited the YG Building to help even out the teams and get his groove on.

1. Loving A Friend’s Girlriend

Love when a performance in a K-drama fits so perfectly with what’s going on in a drama. In this clip from Monstar, the gang gets Seul-chan to sing Lee Seung-chul‘s song “Fell in Love with a Friend’s Girlfriend.”  It’s a beautifully sad song and matched what was going on in the drama perfectly.  Didn’t realize that BEAST‘s Jun-hyung could sing pretty well, too. Can’t believe that this week will be the last episode of Monstar ( and I Hear Your Voice, too)–what’s a K-drama lover to do after its end!

Those were the 5 Things I LOVED in K-pop last week, were they yours?
