As reported earlier, SNSD stopped all music program promotions for their “We Love Oppas!” cheer song “Oh” last week; in preparation for their upcoming “We Love Unnies” single March 18th.

During the past few days, the members’ teaser photos have been released in the following order Yuri, Seohyun and Taeyeon, Sooyoung and HyoyeonSunny and Jessica, and finally Yoona and Tiffany.

IMO: Now that the Black Soshi photo set is complete, any guesses about the upcoming single? What do you think SME is going for based on the photo shoot? I think the upcoming single will have a deep electronic beat. Maybe a mix between T-ara’s “Like The Beginning” and Brown Eyed Girls’ “Abracadabra”. Place your bets Everyone! The teaser will be released within the upcoming days.

For me, the reason why I loved the group was because of its fierce leader and now that he’s frolicked away into the darkness, my love for 2PM has dwindled down to nothing more than an “eh.” But lo and behold, I actually found myself sitting through the entire 4 minutes and 42 seconds of their new music video for their single, “Follow Your Soul,” and Junho’s smiling eyes and Nichkhun’s vomit-inducing cute ways drew me back, just a little. Just a little, I swear.

5 things I noticed during this video:
1. Chansung should never rock that mushroom, permed, bowl cut ever again.
2. It sounds like a giddy, happy song so why in heck are they wearing their badass stage costumes?
3. I didn’t see the female lead show expression once, except to smile. Maybe she can’t move her face…
4. Wooyoung’s an underrated dancer.
5. Junho’s eyes had me at hello.

The Children of Empire have a lot of explaining to do.  Fans living close to their dorms found a bunch of fan letters, gifts, and gift bags in the trash near ZE:A’s dorms.  I’m not even going to go into the whole “and why were you looking in the trash” tangent and assume that the letters, etc. were out in the open and readily seen.  Check out the pics below.

What adds insult to the fans’ already injured hearts is that it was reported that many of the letters weren’t even opened.  Needless to say fans of the group and netizens are disappointed and pissed.  ZE:A’s management company has said that it is all a mistake and that a cleaning company they hired came in while everyone wasn’t home and threw it out by mistake.  Netizens’ response to this was “don’t blame the cleaning lady,” because if the letters and gifts, etc. weren’t just lying around the dorm like rubbish, no professional cleaning lady would have thrown them away.

I am constantly surprised by the amount of love Kpop fans shower their idols with, so seeing this is very disheartening.  Fans spend a lot of money and effort on the gifts they give to their idols and I’m sure many of their letters are filled with their heartfelt words.  ZE:A is still a rookie group, they just debuted in January of this year, anymore mistakes like this could doom their careers because seriously Mazeltov wasn’t that great of a song to begin with.

Whether or not this was a mistake, it was handled very carelessly.  Everyone knows how tight Kpop idols’ schedules are and that they all might not have time to read every fans’ letter, but at least the fan can imagine that it might have got read.  All these ZE:A fans now know for a fact that the letter they probably practiced writing over-and-over again filled with words of their love and devotion got thrown out in the trash without even being read.  It is also plausible that idols can not possibly keep every fan letter, but the handling of its disposal should be done with some respect and definitely not be left out in the open where anyone could possibly see it.  Shame on ZE:A and their management, without fans you’re just a bunch of  dudes dressed up in weird clothes singing a song, so show your fans some respect.   The good news for ZE:A fans, if there are any left, is that a lot of fan service should be headed your way in the immediate future.

Last December, Dream Team 2 members Sangchu of Mighty Mouth and Minho from SHINee came close to beating singer Jo Sung Mo’s high jump record of 225 cm (about 7.38 ft).  Jo Sung Mo’s record was done 10 years ago during a challenge on the original Dream Team show.  Beginning in January, both Sangchu and Minho began training under the direction of trainers from the Kaereung Institute of Sports Science (KISS), some of whom work with the National teams.

On the March 14th episode, both are shown breaking Jo Sung Mo’s record.  Minho cleared a height of 240 cm (7.87 ft), but failed to clear 245 cm (8.04 ft).  Sangchu beat out Minho and was able to clear a height of 250 cm (8.20 ft).  What’s the significance of this?  The current World record for the high jump is 245 cm, and the Olypmpic record is 239 cm.  So, will we be seeing Sangchu and Minho trying out for Korea’s Olympic team?  Maybe, maybe not.  I watched their attempts on the show last year and in it they used a springboard, I’m pretty sure in real high jump events you can’t use one.  Even so, it was a great feat.  The trainers they worked with were impressed with the athleticism of both, especially that of Sangchu.  One of them even said that “Sangchu’s strength is a national treasure.”  Maybe he has a shot at the National team after all?

Dream Team 2 is always entertaining.  I’m not sure what I find more entertaining, watching them compete or seeing them getting squished by some kind of humongous inflated ball in the final challenge.  I barely knew who Minho was because I didn’t really care for SHINee, but after watching him compete on the show (Minho is a total gamer), I’m totally a fan now.  Can’t wait to see the episode and watch our Dream Team 2 flying high.

As previously reported, DBSK’s Yunho was selected to appear in the Michael Jackson tribute concert This Is It in Seoul on the 27th & 28th of March.  He went to Los Angeles and Las Vegas accompanied by Korean American singer J who acted as his translator, to train with Jackson’s choreographers and the producers of the show including Michael’s keyboardist Morris Pleasure.  KBS’ Entertainment Weekly had an exclusive interview with Yunho that featured clips of him practicing, having meetings with the This Is It management, and sharing his thoughts on the whole experience.

The reviews of Yunho’s performance have been positive.  Officials from the production are pleased with Yunho’s work ethic and his dancing skills.  The Jackson Talent company CEO said of Yunho “… his energy is really vibrant and exciting, and he reminds us of kind of like a Korean Justin Timberlake.”  Check out the clip here.

Way to go Yunho!  After his less than stellar acting premiere and the uncertainty of DBSK’s future, it’s great seeing Yunho enjoying himself and doing well.  Hopefully, we’ll be able to see some of his actual performances in the This Is It concerts in Seoul.

As reported earlier, SNSD has stopped all music program promotions for their “We Love Oppas!” cheer song “Oh” this week; and have begun preperations for their upcoming “We Love Unnies” single March 18th.

IMO: I think the “strong female” vibe we recieved from SooYoung and Hyoyeon’s teaser pics are the only ones we’re gonna get. With the release of Jessica and Sunny’s black soshi pics, we are right back to seductive and catlike. Not that I wasn’t expecting that, just making an observation. Last to be revealed are Yoona and Tiffany’s teaser photos. (probably  tomorrow)

The rest of the 2AM boys have released the remaining teasers for ‘I Did Wrong’ and I think we can expect some classic drama fare.  Not too surprising when you mix biker Seulong, basketball wielding Jinwoon, ice-skating Changmin and DJ Jo Kwon with one girl.  How did this girl manage to steal all four idol boy hearts anyway?  She must have learned some tricks from SNSD’s YoonA.  Poor Changmin seems to have the least luck with her though, as it does not look like the skating date goes well at all.

InStyle Korea magazine, the fashion bible to many sartorial-minded Koreans, gathered some of the country’s top stars and even a few idol band members for their “Help for Haiti” charity campaign.

Some of the celebrities who posed for the terrific cause included  Kim Ji Soo,Yoo Ji TaeKim Ji Suk, Ha Ji Won, Han Chae Young, Nam Sang Mi, Han Ji Hye, Yoon Jung Hoon, Song Ji Hyo, Yoo Seon, Song Joong Ki, the member of idol groups SHINee and 4Minute, and many others for a total of 33 celebrities. The charitable fashion pictorial finished shooting all 33 stars on the 11th.

The pictorial coincides with InStyle’s 7th anniversary this month, and aims to raise funds for the Disaster Relief Fund for Haiti through their newly released iPhone application (released March 6th) through the Apple AppStore. InStyle readers can purchase the pictures through the iPhone app with profits going to the “Help For Haiti” fund.

Although 2 months have passed since the devastating earthquake that has so affected the island nation and its people, it is so nice to see that the country and the Haitian people have not been forgotten. Kudos to InStyle Korea and the celebrities involved for their continued good will.  It goes to show that being charitable is never out of style.

T-BLAQ? M-ara? BLAQT? I’m sure netizens will find a worthy name soon enough, after viewing this clip from T-ara’s reality show, aptly titled ‘T-ara World.’  Fans are squeeing over MBLAQ’s special appearance on the. The boys, well-coiffed as always, let girls the film them -and their muscles -  and the chemistry crackled from there.

I have to admit, I’d anticipate a special stage from these two groups. And it’s always nice to see idol groups interact- but wherefore art thou, Wonderbang?

Though their personality or talents may not be to my taste, one thing I will always admire about entertainers is their ability to survive in such a cutthroat business. And yes, that includes Sandara Park.

Eons and eons ago, when us k-pop fans barely knew what a 2NE1 was (or if we would like it) we did know the members of this intensely hyped girl group, and Dara was given a head start above all the others, due to a small set of  (presumably) scandalous photos.

That landed her on many netizens’ hit lists- though honestly it doesn’t take much- but it was hard to reconcile the leather whips and dark makeup with the bubbly, dust mop-haired 2NE1 member. Interestingly, Dara finally revealed the sequence of events behind the pictures in a recent interview.

‘She accepted as [the photoshoot]  was the suggestion of one of her seniors who worked for a broadcast company that also ran a magazine. She believed it when she was told she would just have to wear a skirt and a top. ‘UNO’, the magazine that offered Sandara her photo shoot was actually a prestigious male magazine.

“I’m on the petite side so I was called a ‘primary school kid’ in the Philippines a lot. I accepted the photo shoot offer because I wanted to show a different side of me.”

But when she arrived at the scene, they demanded a bikini shoot. Though she was hesitant, Sandara had been working without a manager and lacked the experience to amend the situation, especially when all the preparations had been made. It was just one result of a just-matured young lady working in the entertainment industry without a manager.
But the photo shoot that passed by without any problems in the Philippines was made a big deal back in Korea. It was revealed too late in Korea last April and started up the ‘Sandara Park sexy photo shoot’ controversy.

The pictorial showed Sandara Park in the Philippines in 2006 wearing heavy make up, a black corset and bikini etc. for ‘UNO’. Some people said cruel things like ‘Sandara must’ve really needed the money’. They do say that the most unexpected crises hurt the most. Sandara had remained calm talking about herself until now, but she showed sorrow and regret while recollecting these events.

“I was really upset when people said things like ‘She did it because she needed money’. I was just trying to follow their customs, they didn’t even tell me I had to do the shoot.”

It made her even sadder to see her family in pain because of her.

“My parents were really shocked. I’d never regretted becoming a celebrity. I’d never even felt sad or angry that I had to give up my privacy. But when I saw my family watch as the public made assumptions and misjudged me, I felt regretful. It was really hard for me.”‘

Not an uncommon scenario for females in the entertainment business by any means, but she has some of my respect nonetheless. Also, interesting to note the differences highlighted between Filipino and Korean celebrity culture. The rest of Dara’s interview, which gives decent insight into her personality, delves into this issue several times and I find it fascinating! Well, excuse me, but I think I have some research to do…
