    Hi, Seoulbeats!
I just watched the Epik High interview on Youtube and came to your site to find out more about you guys.
Is your office just based in America?
I am asking this because I study & live in London and since I am Anglo-Korean (born Korean but lived in London half my life), my interest for Korea is hard to ignore. So if there is anything such as interviews or translation opportunities in London, I would be grateful if you let me in. I heart K-POP artist like EpikHigh..especially their recent, Map The Soul. Thank you so much.

yo seoulbeats (ellie), the comments section in the “we support park jaebeom” is getting HOT, and not in a good way. there could have been a very good discussion on culture and national pride and assimilation and globalization, but it is straight up nazi racism in there. maybe need a moderator of some sort? or maybe a well-written follow-up article ^^

  3. anonymous says:

Dear Ellie and all of Seoulbeats,

The “We Support Park Jaebeom” comments section is getting waaaay out of hand. One particular person is spouting all sorts of downright racist, xenophobic comments that I (and many others) find to be highly offensive. If the comments could be moderated some way, that would be great. Right now there are a lot of comments that are very upsetting to people of all nationalities, races, and elasticities. Thanks!

    • GEEzer aka teluklitik. says:

@ anonymous & annie … You are not asking for moderation. You are actually asking for censorship. “anonymous” also made offensive statements against Kyun Park by calling him/her ‘crazy’ and saying ‘WTF’ to him/her. So, if there is any moderation required, both sides should be. … “Hypocrite! First remove the plank from your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck out of your brother’s eye.”
……. I thought Americans believe in responsible freedom of speech, ie people being able to give their opinions. Looks more like butthurt girlfans of Jaebeom, trying to be protective over their ‘lover-idol’. Thank God, Seoulbeats is fair and impartial; and champions responsible freedom of speech.

Like I said b4, this issue is like looking at a matter from 2 sides of a coin. The head and the tail. Both viewpoints will never coalesce. … Most Koreans, like Kyun Park, believe in Confucianism and ancestor-worship. Hence, to them, nation and race are one and the same, ie Korea must be made up of the Korean race, in order for the nation to be united, prosperous, advance and strong = exclusive. ….. So, to them, Koreans who migrate to other countries are like traitors = considered as trash.
……. On the other side of the coin is American’s viewpoint, ie nation and race are separate, ie an American can be of any race = inclusive. This view has been elaborated by anti-Kyun Park readers, on that very ‘hot’ article on Jaebeom.

In Korea, Kyun Park’s opinion holds sway, hence the “expulsion” of Jaebeom in mid-September. The lesson to be learnt here is, we can’t apply American’s viewpoint in Korea, and v.v. So, next time, if Seoulbeats wanna get a true picture about a Kpop controversy, she should consult a Korean living in Korea, maybe someone like Kyun Park… lol.

I came on here to see if I could leave a message about the advertising popping up on the side of the screens and I saw this reply to something I had written a few months ago. At first I decided not to reply since as people say “don’t feed the trolls” but I feel like this person is misinterpreting what I was saying and asking for.

For starters, I don’t support censorship; however, I do believe that it is the right of the writers on this blog to moderate comments that readers would find offensive (and yes, Kyun Park’s were offensive to western readers). So don’t wave the “freedom of speech” card in my face because that can’t always be a person’s excuse for inappropriate speech.

Secondly, I don’t remember exactly the specific of what Kyun Park had said (although I believe that they included assumptions about America and others that reflected poorly upon Korea) and I certainly don’t remember all that I said in reply at the heat of the moment but I will apologize for calling him “crazy” if that is what I said. However, what I meant was that what he was saying is crazy from my prospective.

Furthermore, I don’t believe that you can you the “he/she is from a different culture” defense.” If Kyun Park understands enough English to come read a blog written and read and commented upon primarily by Americans, then he should know enough about American society to know what is and isn’t appropriate to say. I’m not saying that he shouldn’t have posted what he thought, I just believe that he should have considered his audience. We live in an increasingly global society, if people are going to go interact with people from other countries across the internet, then they should be respectful and knowledgeable. What Kyun Park did was ignorant and foolish. I know that if I personally spoke Korean and went onto a Korean blog/website I wouldn’t leave comments like he did.

I’ve said what I needed to say. Peace out!

Guys.. Big OMG.. Jae is leaving 2pm… and as per asianfanatics.net it was confirmed by JYPE as real over a phone interview by Newsen..

  5. 2pmsupporter says:

    Dear Seoulbeats,

Please support the petition to support Jae Park’s future in the US. 2pm Fan cafe has already posted a message stating that Jaebum is already on a plane to the US. As a fellow Korean-American I think it is vital to show our support to him and show that we support whatever career move he may choose to take next in the future.

    hey seoulbeats,
tip: please change your layout! revert it back to the old one or something. there’re so many cliches with the new layout SUCH AS…
    1) i can’t go back to the previous page without 3 or 4 clicks and if i did, it goes back to the homepage and not the page where i left off at.
    2) i see lot of random ads. the images now pop up in new windows…which is kinda annoying.
    3) i see a random horizontal scroll bar for no reason in the middle of the screen everytime i click into a new article.
i thought u guys knew about the cliches but it’s been about a month and the problem are still there.

  14. awg says:

Hey this may not be all the relevant as some of the songs are from earlier this year but I came across these 2 mixes of kpop songs that are really good. They are done by Masamixes who has a website (http://www.masamixes.com) and they mashup a bunch of songs. The youtube links are:

    -HOT K-POP 2009 ~ special mashup pt. I ~ (23 songs in one)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wyZPpwLZeag

-HOT K-POP 2009 ~ special mashup pt. II ~ (28 songs in one)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GYCU8Jm87Do&NR=1

I like them both but I do prefer the first one.

I thought it would be a good idea to share them if you guys could cause it has a little of everything and are again just really good (well done/mixed).
