It’s been a week, so that means it’s time for Best of Weekly Music Shows to return! We saw comebacks from Cross Gene, Dreamcatcher, Yong Junhyung, Teen Top, and Ben. The group Spectrum also made their debut, joining the class of 2018 newcomers. Every week we get new and familiar faces on the same stages. Aside from the performances, it’s also nice to see interactions between senior and junior idols.

Gfriend is having an amazing week, to say the least. The girls swept all the awards this week, which is a cool accomplishment in itself. Buddies must be exhausted from celebrating so much. Great job, Gfriend!

There aren’t any trophies to win here, but every performance I’ve picked deserves a prize. If you wish to share any award-worthy stages, feel free to comment down below.

Gfriend’s “Time for the Moon Night”, MBC Show Champion, May 9, 2018

It’s cool to see small improvements through each new performance. With Gfriend on a winning streak, they could’ve easily phoned in their routine, yet they didn’t. The ladies show off their charms as individuals and as a group here. The intricate timing of their opening hand routine sets up the tone for the rest of the dance. It only looks simple until you break down each move to realize how nuanced this choreo is.

(G)I-dle‘s “Latata”, MBC Show Champion, May 9, 2018

I don’t see many girl groups incorporate intros and outros into their stages, but when they do, it’s magical. The members of (G)I-dle came to play for keeps with their girl crush vibe. This may sound controversial, but they’re the group we never realized we needed in K-pop. They’re not the first ones with this concept, but they’ve certainly made themselves standout by playing up this chic image.

Yong Junhyung’s “Go Away”, KBS Music Bank, May 11, 2018

There are a handful of talented, young artists who represent the total package. I’ve enjoyed a majority of songs composed by Yong Junhyung, and this one makes my playlist. It’s light and airy despite the somber lyrics about the difficulties of love. This is musical irony at its finest.

Eric Nam‘s cover of Westlife‘s “My Love”, KBS Immortal Songs 2, May 12, 2018

Let’s stop sleeping on the vocals of Eric Nam. This man’s singing sent chills up my spine. If there was an award for making me yell positive affirmations at my screen, he’d win, hands down. You can tell from this performance that this is someone who loves singing. He truly put his all into serving us vocals laced with raw emotions.

Dreamcatcher’s “You and I”, Mnet M! Countdown, May 10, 2018

I don’t know where to start or where to look. There’s so much going on here. They are my favorite rookies from 2017 with their flawless routines that leave me speechless. Of course we must address the part of the choreo that caused a lot of fans to blink twice — Dami‘s baton reveal. She executes it so casually that it’s easy to assume she carries that thing everywhere. I can’t stop thinking about it.

Readers, who did you like last week?
