Best of Weekly Music Shows is back for another round! TVXQ made their long-awaited comeback, as did Monsta X and Samuel. Stray Kids also made their highly anticipated debut. MBC Show Champion chose to air a highlight show featuring performances from the first quarter of the year, so no new stages from them.

Wanna One got four wins this week on MBC Show Champion and Show! Music Core, Mnet M! Countdown, and KBS Music Bank. NCT 127 got their first trophy for “Touch” on SBS The Show. Mamamoo held on strong to win on SBS Inkigayo. Congrats to them all!

My picks for this week aren’t a defined measurement of anyone’s popularity. They’re simply performances I really liked. If you wish to comment with your favorites, feel free to do so down below.

Stray Kids’ “District 9”, Mnet M! Countdown, March 29, 2018

It’s thrilling when a group comes swinging out the gate. The apocalyptic setting combined with the mini fireworks display in the background adds to the intensity of their performance. Their dancing is quite powerful, which means they would probably kill it in a concert. Strong starts are hard to come by for rookies, but Stray Kids are on the path towards greatness.

NCT 127’s “Touch”, Mnet M! Countdown, March 29, 2018

First of all, let me bless the Taeil stans with a small tip. Fast forward to the 2:18 mark — you’re welcome. If you really want to clutch your pearls, start a second before that moment. It’s the third week of them being on the list. That’s gotta be a record. It can’t be helped because this stage has so much fan service. I don’t know how anyone survives stanning this group.

Le Ciel‘s “Sweetune”, KBS Music Bank, March 30, 2018

The lead singer gives me slight chills with his deep, husky voice. It doesn’t help that he looks like a living anime character. Their sound is definitely a far cry from a lot of the currently active bands out today. I’m not sure why suddenly bands are popping up everywhere on music shows, but I always welcome the variety.

TVXQ’s “The Chance of Love”, SBS Inkigayo, April 1, 2018

Listen, TVXQ didn’t come to play. They’ve been going strong for over a decade, and this is an example of why. Their suits are fitted and pressed, the stage is a gold and silver paradise, and the song is fantastic. This group knows how to put on a show, which is why disappointment rarely happens with them.

Monsta X’s “Jealousy”, Mnet M! Countdown, March 29, 2018

If we’re making body chains the new trend in K-pop fashion, I’m completely here for it. Wonho naturally has to be the one with the deepest V neck in his suit. Aside from their thirst-inducing outfits, their routine is impeccable. Another group who knows how to entertain, I’m expecting nothing but great things from Monsta X this year.
