Following the success of Monstar, another musical drama is in the works from Mnet. The series, called Perseverance, Goo Hae-ra (more literally translated as Fail seven times, succeed on the eighth), will center around heroine Goo Hae-ra, who hopes to get signed to agency in order to have her father’s work be known to the world. With this mission, she and twin brothers Kang Sae-jong and Kang Sae-chan audition in reality talent show Superstar K2. Fear not — the inevitable love triangle and coming-of-age storyline have also been confirmed.
The drama is currently casting, and the line-up features a star-studded cast. Actress Min Hyo-rin, who previously debuted as a singer, has been cast as Goo Hae-ra. Jinyoung of B1A4 will play a lead as one of the twin brothers, while Henry of Super Junior M is basically portraying himself as a quirky genius musician also named Henry. Talent show veterans Park Kwang-sun of Ulala Session (who won Superstar K3) and Yoo Sung-eun from Voice of Korea have also been casted in roles as singers in the show.
Accordingly, the production team behind the project hail from variety and talent show backgrounds. The PDs of Superstar K and Dancing 9 have partnered to direct the drama, and the writers have worked previously on Real Man, Music Bank, and dramas such as Match Made in Heaven and Apgujeong Diary.
The series will commence filming this November and is expected to premiere in January.
