Welcome to another recap of the music shows of the week! While several big names released material this week, we saw comebacks from those such as TVXQ and CN Blue. Of the five typical shows, MBC Music‘s Show! Champion did not air this week. Sistar‘s Soyou and JungGiGo continued their barrage of wins by taking three of the remaining four trophies, only stopped by Sunmi, who won her first solo trophy on SBS Inkigayo for “Full Moon.” I’ve chosen my favorites below, but comment with your own as well!

TVXQ’s “Spellbound,” KBS Music Bank, February 28, 2014

I think any performance of this song would have worked, so it really came down to details. Though Music Bank‘s camera work is questionable (I swear the cameraman was grooving along and felt inspired to move the camera in a similar way at some points), overall it captures the choreography pretty darn well. TVXQ’s performance is dynamic and engaging. The female backup dancers are also a delight to watch. It all just comes together so well and feels like a complete show.

Speed‘s “Don’t Tease Me,” SBS Inkigayo, March 2, 2014

Speed’s latest gives off vibes tipping towards a maniacal circus show, and I love it. The choreography has eye-catching moves like where Tae-woon jumps over two others than are leaning back to make a horizontal and some of the background acrobatics. The entire stage reads like they all know a secret the audience doesn’t, and the cheekiness is engaging. The song fuels the high energy for a pretty good performance.

Sunmi (feat. Lena)’s “Full Moon,” MBC Music Core, March 1, 2014

Sunmi nabbed her first win with “Full Moon,” finally pulling out of her frequent second places into first. I’m not too fond of her feathery outfit, but overall, her performance is smooth and sultry, focusing on the details and sometimes sharp movements to keep attention.

A pink‘s Eunji‘s cover of Jo Su-mi‘s “If I Leave,” MBC’s Music Travel Yesterday, March 1, 2014

Eunji’s vocal skills are so strong, and A pink’s songs don’t showcase it well enough. Her performance is captivating, showing off her abilities to imbue emotion into a song and stand solo without being a bore to watch.

Spica‘s cover of Big Mama‘s “Break Away,” MBC’s Music Travel Yesterday, March 1, 2014

This is super nice. Spica does so well to harmonize together, and in this song, each member got to shine. Since each member is vocally able to hold their own, each one gets a reasonable chunk of song time, bolstered by the soft harmonies of the others when necessary. The song itself isn’t particularly interesting, but the five improve it.
