Welcome to another recap of the week’s music shows! To celebrate the Lunar New Year, Mnet and KBS did not air their respective shows, opting for other programming. B1A4 took home a trophy from MBC Music‘s Show! Champion while Girl’s Day‘s “Something” came back to the top on SBS Inkigayo. MBC Music Core did not have a winner. Shows teased for B.A.P, Ga-in, and Shinhwa‘s M‘s comebacks next week. My favorites from the week are listed below, but please comment with your own favorites!

The One‘s cover of Cho Yong-pil‘s “The Tea House in Winter,” MBC’s Yesterday, February 1, 2014

I really like The One’s voice, but his facial expressions and overall demeanor when singing can go overboard at times. However, he really does do the song justice with his vocals most of the time.

B1A4’s “Lonely,” MBC Music Core, February 1, 2014

Nope. Still not sick of this performance yet. It must be very difficult to continue performances while in a scandal, even though it’s a situation out of their control. But the group’s performances provide a note of stability to the weekly programs as they can be counted on for their solid stage every time.

Lee Yoo-bi‘s cover of “Let It Go,” SBS Inkigayo, February 2, 2014

While mindlessly streaming Inkigayo in the background, I heard “Let It Go” and came to watch, figuring that it would probably be Hyorin or Ailee singing. Imagine my surprise when I saw it was Lee Yoo-bi doing it for her introductory MC performance as well. As someone who has only known of her in my brief attempts to watch Gu Family Book and her recent rumors with Shinee‘s Jonghyun, I was incredibly surprised at her singing voice. She’s obviously lip-synching here, but it is her voice singing it. While it isn’t perfect, it’s still pretty darn good, especially for someone that acts, not sings, for a living.

Spica‘s “You Don’t Love Me,” SBS Inkigayo, February 2, 2014

I’d like to give my thanks to Inkigayo for letting Spica sing live. It makes no sense to have a great vocal group lip-synching, yet they did in Music Core. The camera on the microphone is a little strange, especially since my line of sight is drawn to each girl’s nostrils more than anything. I’m loving the concept and all of their voices in this song, especially Bo-hyung’s.

Airplane‘s “How R U,” SBS Inkigayo, February 2, 2014

I missed when this song came out around three weeks ago. It has the same smooth feel as the group’s debut single but plays around more with the melody. While the performance itself isn’t choreographed or particularly eye-catching, the song is a good listen.

TVXQ‘s “Something.” SBS Inkigayo, February 2, 2014

“Something” is still running strong almost a month after release. What can I say, I’m still amazed that the performance gets completed without a hitch, especially when you see all these strings getting casually whipped around while the duo is completely nonchalant about it.
