Another week, another set of recaps of the main music shows! This week brings us only four of the normal five as production for Mnet M! Countdown was usurped by the 2013 Mnet Asian Music Awards. As Nicholas has already covered those performances in a previous post, none of them will be included here. This week had comebacks primarily from FT Island, Lee Juck, Huh Gak, and VIXX. The winners across the week were varied: Trouble Maker took MBC Music Show! Champion for the third week in a row, miss A took KBS Music Bank, Davichi won at MBC Music Core, and Taeyang wrapped up the week with his first win for “Ringa Linga” on SBS Inkigayo. My favorites of the week are below, but don’t forget to comment with your own!

VIXX’s “Voodoo Doll,” MBC Music Show! Champion, November 20, 2013

Starting us off proper is VIXX’s eerie “Voodoo Doll.” The stabbing parts of the dance were banned from the public broadcast channels, i.e. KBS, MBC, and SBS, but as MBC Music is a cable channel, the regular choreography was allowed. As far as I could tell, the only differences between this choreography and the modified one were where the mic staff went and when a hand replaced it which, let’s be honest, isn’t a less gruesome alternative. No matter, VIXX’s has got this supernatural theme down, and their performances continue to become more innovative and enthralling. Extra points to Hongbin for having that additional edge of creepy to his parts.

Untouchable feat. Rude Paper‘s Koonta‘s “Vain,” MBC Music Show! Champion, November 20, 2013

Let’s slow it down a little for some K-hip-hop. Koonta’s chorus is wonderfully smooth and ties the rap portions together nicely.

FT Island’s “Madly,” MBC Music Core, November 23, 2013

The band is back with a rock ballad, and as always, Hong-ki‘s vocal performance is near flawless. What adds to this performance even more is the stage, lighting, and colors used. It all adds together for an aural and visual pleasure. And I couldn’t stop staring at that hand attached to Hong-ki’s microphone. Anyways, here’s to hoping FNC manages to get FT Island some live stages during their promotion cycle!

Davichi’s “Letter,” MBC Music Core, November 23, 2013

If there’s one thing Core Contents Media seems to be successful with, it’s Davichi and the hit songs that they regularly get. There’s no denying the duo’s vocal talent, and “Letter” seems like it’s turning out to be another one of their good songs.

miss A’s “Hush,” MBC Music Core, November 23, 2013

I put “Hush” on the list last week, and for the same reasons, it’s back again. The song is still addictive, and the performances get more comfortable and even a little more flirty as time passes.

2NE1‘s “Missing You,” SBS Inkigayo, November 24, 2013

I’m here for Minzy. I think her vocals sound the best in this song and in this performance. I wouldn’t call the song the best of 2NE1’s discography, but it gets the job done. The moving parts of the set were a nice touch, though I wish they were caught on camera better. Sames goes for the man in the box: he was working his little space but didn’t get enough shots.
