5 Things I LOVED in K-pop: 11/28 – 12/4

13

The countdown to the end of the year has begun and there’s a lot going on in K-pop: IU released her latest MV, some Invincible Youth went fishing, SNSD brought the boys out at Sketchbook, Shindong tried out for the Wonder Girlsthere were some great performances at the MAMAs, a foreign chef asks Yoo Jae-suk if he wants his autograph, a virtual married couple got a bit closer, hopefuls tried out to be the next K-pop Star, and live from Seoul… it’s Saturday Night!  Keep reading to find out which 5 Things in K-pop that happened this week I think were a bit more special than the rest.

5. Tim likes Science

On the latest episode of Yoo Hee-yeol’s Sketchbook, Tim did a cover of Coldplay‘s “The Scientist” and all I gotta say is that he definitely got the right formula.

 4. Ulala Session rocks the MAMAs

The winners of the latest season of Superstar K put on a great performance and showed everyone why they were selected as the winner.  They performed a medley of songs, from Super Junior‘s “Sorry, Sorry” to SHINee‘s “Ring Ding Dong,” but they had me from Step One.

3.  Chi-soo gets a 10

Jung Il-woo‘s Cha Chi-soo in the K-drama Flower Boy Ramyun Shop is a conflicted man/boy who can be both maturely sophisticated and a majorly spoiled child.  But at the end of episode 10, Chi-soo is all man and gets a 10 out of 10.

Thank you for not being your typical K-drama lip smashing kiss, although I do feel a bit weird about him being her former high school student and my heart broke a little for Kang-hyuk.

2.   What’s Up worth the wait?

After only one episode it’s hard to say.  The direction of the drama is a bit quirky, but I’ll still be watching if only to see scenes like this.

1.  Who’s the Best?

Well, it’s not like you’re gonna get an argument from me.

Those were the 5 Things I LOVED in K-pop this week, were they yours?

Seriously Big Bang doing “I Am the Best” made my week.  I need a studio version now!

I might need to start FBRS sooner rather then later.  I love Jung Il Woo.  I just saw he was cast in the new drama from the writer of Sungkyunkwan Scandal.  He’s playing Kim Soo-Hyoon’s half brother.

    1. Daesung’s awesome moves in Big Bang’s rendition of IATB.

God, The Scientist gets me every damn time. No matter who sings it. :’) His expressions are throwing me off a bit, though.

And yes! Big Bang’s IATB cover had be falling out of my seat ’cause I was laughing so hard. Absolutely amazing, hahah.

I can’t approve of Cha Chi Soo’s kissing abilities until I try it out for myself.  Wait, did I just admit that out loud?

Big Bang’s I Am The Best made me laugh so hard.  I can’t decide which is more epic, Daesung’s or TOP’s dancing.  So glad to see Daesung and GD back.

Big Bang’s version of I Am The Best certainly deserves being on the week’s highlights. TOP is just crazy. :)

    my 5 things

    - bigbang as 5 at the yg concert. welcome back daesung and gd!

    - the entire arena singing haru haru at the concert – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0L3PfAQ82sQ&feature=player_embedded (at 3:35) and generally screaming their heads off for bb throughout.

    - all the bb songs and the special ones they performed at the concert – a new lies remix, the lonely, it hurts and iatb covers, cafe with a live band, the jazz version of heartbreaker, oh yeah with gd, top, cl and minji etc etc.

    - choomtop in general. he was in top form throughout, no pun intended.

    - bb is working on a new album!!!!

biased vip is biased but it’s been the best week bb has had in a long, long time.

    Dear Johnelle & team SB,
I don’t know if this is the right place to ask, but I try anyway… Could you please try to write an article or discussion explaining the love-hate Kfans have for Kpop/Kdrama? It just so confusing… One day I hate all about Kpop for it crappy-ness and fan wars and stupid songs they published. Next day I crazily browse every little detail about Kpop idol/group band or laughing stupidly at comment in ohmono or giggles over behind the scenes video. I know how the entertainment industry in Korea is heavily scripted. I lost my trust upon their closeness or special bonds or another ‘hallucination’ or ‘fantasy’ or ‘image’ (call it what you want) years ago. So, how can I still interested and go back again after saying too many ‘I have enough with you’?

    Kekekeke….
    Please help.

What I loved previous week? Watching ‘Protect the Boss’ (PS: I hate the bombastis review about PtB and the praise over one specific artist. That’s why I just watching it now – but after watching it myself, I can’t help but totally agree with the review…. oh dear, oh dear, oh dear….)

Every day at Seoulbeats we discuss our love/hate relationship with K-pop.  We’re critical of K-pop not because we hate it, but because we love it–we just hate what they do with it sometimes.  I will share your comment with the rest of the crew and maybe we can get someone to delve into it deeper.  Keep your head up!
