The Kang Ji Hwan/Yoon Eun Hye drama, Lie To Me, reached the halfway mark this week with  and, I must say, I’m enjoying myself with this drama quite a bit. As Amy knows–mostly because I email or text her every time something funny or cute happens–this drama makes me laugh and makes me smile (a lot). But it also has me pressing the fast forward button on my VLC player. This is only the second time I’ve had to do that with a drama and the first time I ended up dropping the drama all together.

Kang Ji Hwan, whom I’ve followed since Hong Gil Dong, is fetching and funny as usual. His character, Hyun Ki Joon, is a chaebol in the form of a president of a high-end hotel in Seoul. Yoon Eun Hye is Gong Ah Jung, a civil servant in the Ministry of Culture. They meet by chance and through confusion and hi jinks a rumor is spread that the two are married. They start to get close but of course, the second leads do their jobs of distracting them, one in the form of Ki Joon’s younger brother, Sang Hee (Sung Joon) and Ki Joon’s ex-fiancé, Oh Yoon Joo (Jo Yoon Hee), whom Ki Joon left because of Sang Hee’s love for her. Phew. Anyway, the classic love diamond is here so it’s familiar territory in good and bad ways.

Oh Yoon Joo is a bore and only important because she used to be Hyun Ki Joon’s fiancé. Sang Hee being in love with Ki Joon’s fiancé appears to be the only reason Ki Joon broke off the engagement. The scenes that involve anyone besides Ki Joon and Ah Jung are completely repetitive and do nothing to develop the plot.

This drama drags but just wanting to see Kang Ji Hwan–and, surprisingly for me, Yoon Eun Hye–has been enough to make it enjoyable (but thank god for fast-forward…) I suggest Lie to Me for fun times and real emotion, some ridiculous (but appreciated) overacting from Yoon Eun Hye as well as some real sincerity from, and chemistry between, the two leads.
