This week’s 5 Things is brought to you all a little bit late thanks to a nasty little thing in Hawaii called VOG which gave me massive sinus headaches and an ensuing sinus infection.  No worries, after much rest and some nifty meds from the Doc am feeling much better although a bit light headed.  If my rants seem a bit loopier than usual, I’ll blame it on the meds.  So what 5 Things broke through to my oxygen-deprived-kpop-loving-brain last week? A Love Song, a 2AM sighting, MC Mong’s trial results, a pre-debut debut, and the hunters that become the hunted.  These are the 5 Things that happened in Kpop last week that I think were a little bit more special than the rest.

I LOVE this Love Song

Okay, so no big surprise here because if you read 5 Things you must know I’m a Big Bang fan.  While I had mixed feelings about the songs on their Tonight album, the newly released songs on their Special Edition album I love especially “Love Song.”  The song is great and all the members’ parts highlight their individual voices, the MV is also great.

The only thing I didn’t like… the white shoes, why white shoes with black suits?  I also though that G-Dragon in his baggy pants looked like a ‘yankee’ straight outta one of my fave Jdoramas.

A Big Bang event that was kicked off on the same day as the release of their new album was the Big Bang Special Album Release Global Event “Big Bang Is Coming” which was an event advertised via their Facebook Page and Soompi. Fans had a chance to vote for Big Bang to visit their country in three divisions:  the Americas, Europe and Asia. My apologies to aquaricpassion who notified me of the competition and I had every intention of letting everyone know so they could vote, but my sinuses won the battle and I never got a chance to write about it before the voting ended. Sadly, the US came in third for the Americas behind Peru and Brazil, but I figure if they’re coming out West there’s no way that they’re not going to hit up the US… and I’ll be there at whatever venue is closest to Hawaii. Here’s the results of the voting. *voting still open see here.

A 2AM Sighting

After a stellar year in 2010, Kpop ballad group 2AM seem to be mostly MIA in 2011.  They’re probably taking a well deserved rest, although still finishing up dramas and appearing on Kvariety shows.  When I came across their latest CF for BHC Chicken it made me smile and reminded me of why I liked them so much.

MC Mong’s Draft Dodging Case Over

I’m a fan of MC Mong, and when this whole draft dodging scandal broke, I knew it wasn’t gonna be pretty.  I was relieved for him when the court’s decision was finally passed down and while he was convicted of interfering with a government official for the delay of his enlistment, he wasn’t found guilty of the greater crime of extracting his teeth to avoid enlistment.  His sentence was a suspended six month jail term, one year probation, and one hundred twenty hours of community service.  The real ‘sentence’ though will be the affect all of this has had on him mentally and emotionally and if his career will ever be able to recover from this scandal.  It won’t be easy, but I hope that MC Mong will be able to eventually make a comeback.

Park Bo-ram’s Pre-debut Debut

Superstar K2 Top 8 contestant Park Bo-ram began her journey to debuting as a solo artist by contributing a song to the Kdrama 49 Days‘ OST.  The song is called “Always” and it’s a nice little sad love song that shows off her voice well, check it out.

Park Bo-ram signed a contract with YG Entertainment along with 4th place Superstar K2 finalist Kang Seung-yoon (who also released a single “You Are Heaven” for the Midas OST) to be YGE trainees.

The Hunters become the Hunted

Sunny and Yoona from SNSD were the guests on this week’s episode of Running Man and this time the guests had to hunt down the cast.  Check out this vid as Yoona and Sunny take out their first victims Ji Suk-jin and Song Joong-ki who both barely knew what hit them.

Sunny and Yoona are two of my fave SNSDers because I like  that they always seem real when on shows and they’re no pushovers.  The Girls’ other great catch was when they were down to the final three cast members who were safe Song Ji-hyo, Kim Jong-kook, and Yoo Jae-suk.  Their choreography was spot on as they took out Ji-hyo and Jong-kook (did you see him run away when Sunny went after Ji-hyo?) which left Jae-suk as the last Running Man standing.

Yoo Jae-suk put up a valiant effort and actually found a couple of the items they were tasked to find before trapped in a SNSD sandwich.  Next week’s episode looks promising as Nichkhun revisits Running Man and brings Taec along with him.

So, Those were the 5 things that I LOVED in Kpop last week, were they yours?
