Seoulbeats wants you!

We’re always looking for new ways to improve Seoulbeats by tackling on new projects and we want your feedback! If you’re passionate and knowledgeable about Kpop and have a strong love for media, please keep reading.

We’re currently throwing around new ideas for the site and we thought it’d be best to brainstorm with like-minded K-poppers to make sure that we are on the right track. If you’re currently in the Tristate area and have something to say, we’d love to meet up with you for some coffee and/or drinks to toss around ideas.

While we here at Seoulbeats all love Kpop despite witnessing same trends cycling over and over, we are looking for fresh perspective from our readers like you to bring Seoulbeats to the next level.

We are hoping to meet you on either March 6th or March 12 but we can work around your schedule as needed. If you’re interested in meeting up with us, please drop us a note at info@seoulbeats.com and we’ll take it from there.

If you have something to say but do not live in the Tristate area to meet with us, your thoughts in the comment section below would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
The Seoulbeats Team

One thing I would love to see more of are commentaries on Korean culture, Korean-American culture because as much as I love fun kpop, I love perceptive commentary even more.

I really hope you guys and gals could consider continuing kpop video vlogs with commentary about what is happening in kpop, what you think about a particular group’s comeback etc. I really miss that aspect of seoulbeats.

    • Love.

      I agree.
      Forgot to mention that below.

what lead me here was your guys’ vlogs, what kept me here was the snappy dialog and your guys’ ability to fangirl but not sound crazed like a good deal of fangirls. fangirls that take things to an extreme have always sort of turned me off of things, I mean, even if I agree with some of the things they say, it’s a bit difficult to get a word in edge wise when they shove their ideals down your throat…
so in a way, even though alot of the time I don’t agree with the views the writers and other readers have, I feel as though I can speak my mind, and while a few people will most likely not like it, I know this site’s one of the few that would listen, no matter how radical mine or someone else’s view is…
I know it’s inevitable that the writers will have their bias’, I mean why would they write for a Kpop blog if they didn’t like Kpop? but in certain cases it has felt as though they’ve taken their bias to a small extreme… it’s not a huge complaint, it’s just something that could turn someone off… and obviously it hasn’t turned me off yet…
but yeah, I think you guys are doing good… and while my hat tipping isn’t something to hoot and holler about, just know I’m a bit of a fan of this site^^
    good luck in the future^^

tristate area? I live in what’s called a tristate area, but I don’t think it’s the one you mean. Where?

seoulbeat’s created a good niche within the broader kpop blogging community. however allkpop’s undoubtedly risen to the top, not necessarily by its quality but by creating a center for kpop. however, unless it’s a big bang comeback or some other huge event- most of its articles are posted late with grammatical errors, awkward translations, and factual errors. if seoulbeats focuses on snapping up key articles faster and continues to bring its better written editorials of various kpop issues- i think that’ll put seoulbeat on a good road :)

    • Love.

Actually Allkpop is pretty fast with uploading articles. Sure, they have slowed down lately, but they are still pretty fast. Which probably results in all the mistranslations and people raging in the comments section.

The only thing that puts AllKpop above Seoul Beats (or Omona, Dkpop, etc) is that they implement Forums. That is undoubtedly the drawing point that keeps AKP going. If Seoul Beats decided to go the Forum route, they would contend with, if not overtake, AKP because the quality of SeoulBeats is already superior.

I visit multiple Kpop blogs, but what makes Seoulbeats attracting are sections such as ’5 things I loved in Kpop this week’, the single page recaps of the music shows + additional commentary, the occasional -very relevant- rants and the slight fangirling.

The only thing that is lacking, is speed in the articles’ releases, even though you guys have been uploading news faster lately. But then again, that’s a decision you [the SB team] will have to make; are you going for quick uploading or well thought out articles?

For further reference, here are some mistakes that Kpop blogs make, that can be avoided:
    - Uploading news for news sake
    - Add in commentary that, in actuality, doesn’t have much to do with the article.

Also, the site is well organised, the layout is calm and structured. Nothing screamy or distracting.
    Keep up the good work!

    PS: ‘Tristate area’? ..*Google* Ah..
You might want to specify though, that you mean the USA, tristate area and then which tristate area ;)

I have got to admit, as a non-American, when posting articles referencing things happening in the USA or places in the USA, I feel that you’re only targetting American readers. Ofcourse, your writer team is American [so I don't blame your American-orientated view], but keep in mind not everyone knows what your talking about, when doing so.

I live in NYC but I am afraid I am a bad Kpop fan. I have been in the Kpop world for 4-5 years, but truthfully I am a very narrow minded (I prefer loyal and wholehearted). One my shelf are full of merchandises of one (or two depending on how you view it) artist. My MP3 Kpop list doesn’t have more than 20 artists whom I might know even know anything about…….so yea XD

I enjoy reading articles like “5 things I loved in Kpop this week” because they are solely based on the author’s opinions who actually watches the programs. Love to see more of this type of articles in the future. And when you guys write articles based on Korean news translations, please input some of your opinions. I hate reading articles that is just formulated based on the Korean netizens or when you just write one line about subject.

I would also like to see more music reviews that are well written and thought out like the ones you did for JYJ and SJM. It seems that most of your readers are mature enough to take some criticism on their favorite artists.

1)I really love “5 things I loved in Kpop this week”.

I also like the new layout. I agree with getting out articles faster, but I think the quality of the articles makes up for that.

    2) What I really like about Seoulbeats are the opinion articles (I hope that you’ll do them more often!)

    3) and the pieces about Korean culture. A lot of kpop fans only know about the music.

    4) I also really love the music show articles that have additional commentary — for some reason, I like reading about someone else’s opinion of a performance as compared to my own.

    1. Keep encouraging a sane and rational commenting environment. I like the fact that there is a place online where I can criticize an idol and not have to deal with a bunch of butthurt fan girls.

    2. More opinion pieces/commentary! There isn’t a lot of k-pop commentary out there (or at least not a lot that’s easy to find/well-written). The first article I read at Seoulbeats was “Who wants some black genes?” I can find news about idol comebacks and scandals anywhere; that piece was unique to Seoulbeats. I loved it.

    3. And last but not least, increase use of multimedia. A while ago I listened to a audio review of JYJ’s “The Beginning” (Jenny’s Mo~ Mo~: JYJ, to like or not to like?). I thought it was great! It made the review seem more personal and made the commentary that much more interesting. I’d like to hear (as in actually hear) from the webmasters; I think that would make the community even stronger.

I’d love to read more opinion pieces on Korean Culture. Of special importance was the round table on the status of women in K pop. It would also be nice to see a round up once a week on happenings in K pop. Posting every single little bit of information on the site seems like “filler”.

I came to Seoulbeats because you all are willing to take off the fan girl blinders and think critically about music as a reflection of culture. Keep up the good work.
