KARA’s Getting Ripped Off, CL’s Solo Up Next?

  • Entertainment companies not giving their idols a fair cut of profits- what else is new? Despite earning millions for their company while working endlessly on exhausting schedules, the members of KARA are only receiving $116 a month.  Their company, DSP Entertainment, supposedly justified not being more generous with the collected revenue by telling the members they needed to cover “expenses” like production and promotions.   • During her break in early January a picture of  2NE1‘s CL in France was uploaded on me2day by fellow member Dara. Reports are that CL wasn’t in Paris just for a vacation. Apparently she went to discuss plans for her upcoming solo debut which is scheduled to take place during 2NE1′s comeback. She may be working with French producers. Fellow 2NE1 members Park Bom and Dara have already been given the opportunity to fly solo with Bom’s “You and I” and Dara’s “Kiss.” (mtvK)
  • Just In Time For The Valentine’s Day Season! Two middle aged men have been arrested for blackmailing their girlfriends with secretly recorded videos of them having sex. Well, not consensual sex. These two jerks separately forced their girlfriends to have sex with them by drugging one and threatening another with a weapon. The man who used the weapon suspected his lover of cheating on him. After recording the acts, both men sent the videos to their girlfriends to control them and to stop them from ending their relationships. Apparently, nothing says “love” like blackmail! (koreatimes)
  • After School and Orange Caramel member Lizzy is a fan of Japan’s girl-group idol army AKB48. (aramatheydidn’t)
  • Five Somali pirates held and interrogated in Busan really like Korean food! Given that some Somali pirates are not only criminals, but also victims of abject poverty, I’m not surprised they gobbled up probably the best meal they’ve had in a long time. (koreatimes)

    I hope this problem with kara gets resolved, as in they get paid the money the deserve..I want to see more japanese promotions, also think they should just ditch Korea and promote in japan, they were never appreciated enough there, cutting korea will give them more energy for japan, where they can be BIG.
    As for CL having a solo debut, YES PLEASE. Although I hope if there is one they take a popish with some rap versus- less autotune route. CL has a good unique voice, but when it’s combined with autotune it sounds awful. I say this because on 2ne1s album all I head was cl awful autotuned voice, so I hope yg learned their lesson to not autotune CL that much..but anyway, I hope the solo debut does happen.

    Well when you think about it, producing a top kpop idol groups IS super expensive especially when they’ve just begun to reach the height of popularity! The money coming in increases, but so does the cost of production and promotions and keeping a staff on hand for the girls. To me $117 is super low, but there are two sides to every story and I just this issue gets resolved soon.

    $116 wow. I can earn that much in two days no sweat. cleaners and buskers earn more than that.

      Is 116 true, jesus thats lower than minimum wage in some 3rd world countries. No one in korea could live on that.

        Yeah they can when everything’s practically paid for and the $116 is basically just spending money!

          They work for 15 or so a day when they are promoting. I know kids with higher allowances than that, and yes those kids of course get room and board.

          They get room and board because it is convenient for the companies, cause they have more control over them and its not free its deducted as an expense. Its a job, and a short lived one at that, who wants to come out of this with no savings.

    Re: Kara. Are these entertainment companies run by guys with an elementary school education? DSP should budget themselves so that they can pay their artists a decent wage. Artists are employees too! I bet they pay their other employees a fair wage. You don’t see other, non-entertainment companies blowing their money on advertisements and production costs and then pay the employees the dregs of the profits.
