The Story Behind Dara’s Controversial Photos

Though their personality or talents may not be to my taste, one thing I will always admire about entertainers is their ability to survive in such a cutthroat business. And yes, that includes Sandara Park.

Eons and eons ago, when us k-pop fans barely knew what a 2NE1 was (or if we would like it) we did know the members of this intensely hyped girl group, and Dara was given a head start above all the others, due to a small set of  (presumably) scandalous photos.

That landed her on many netizens’ hit lists- though honestly it doesn’t take much- but it was hard to reconcile the leather whips and dark makeup with the bubbly, dust mop-haired 2NE1 member. Interestingly, Dara finally revealed the sequence of events behind the pictures in a recent interview.

‘She accepted as [the photoshoot]  was the suggestion of one of her seniors who worked for a broadcast company that also ran a magazine. She believed it when she was told she would just have to wear a skirt and a top. ‘UNO’, the magazine that offered Sandara her photo shoot was actually a prestigious male magazine.

“I’m on the petite side so I was called a ‘primary school kid’ in the Philippines a lot. I accepted the photo shoot offer because I wanted to show a different side of me.”

But when she arrived at the scene, they demanded a bikini shoot. Though she was hesitant, Sandara had been working without a manager and lacked the experience to amend the situation, especially when all the preparations had been made. It was just one result of a just-matured young lady working in the entertainment industry without a manager.
But the photo shoot that passed by without any problems in the Philippines was made a big deal back in Korea. It was revealed too late in Korea last April and started up the ‘Sandara Park sexy photo shoot’ controversy.

The pictorial showed Sandara Park in the Philippines in 2006 wearing heavy make up, a black corset and bikini etc. for ‘UNO’. Some people said cruel things like ‘Sandara must’ve really needed the money’. They do say that the most unexpected crises hurt the most. Sandara had remained calm talking about herself until now, but she showed sorrow and regret while recollecting these events.

“I was really upset when people said things like ‘She did it because she needed money’. I was just trying to follow their customs, they didn’t even tell me I had to do the shoot.”

It made her even sadder to see her family in pain because of her.

“My parents were really shocked. I’d never regretted becoming a celebrity. I’d never even felt sad or angry that I had to give up my privacy. But when I saw my family watch as the public made assumptions and misjudged me, I felt regretful. It was really hard for me.”‘

Not an uncommon scenario for females in the entertainment business by any means, but she has some of my respect nonetheless. Also, interesting to note the differences highlighted between Filipino and Korean celebrity culture. The rest of Dara’s interview, which gives decent insight into her personality, delves into this issue several times and I find it fascinating! Well, excuse me, but I think I have some research to do…

    aww…poor girl was scammed >.<
i am glad she is loved by some many people now ^.^

  2. Kamixk says:

“Also, interesting to note the differences highlighted between Filipino and Korean celebrity culture.”

    What’s the difference?

    • Aprot says:

The difference is, what she did was well accepted in the Phil. She did not pose nude, whats bothersome was she said she was tricked to do the shoot.

  3. anabel says:

    i don’t think she’s telling the truth.

I watched her before in star circle quest, she seem strong-headed.. She got a big birth mark on her leg, the staff can’t even force her to remove the cloth or legband that she uses to cover the birthmark. She is pretty strong-willed even back then.

So in the sexy photo shoot, i don’t think anyone can force her or even trick her to do that photo shoot that involves showing more more skin. She gave her permission thats why the photo shoot happened. At that time, she is already popular and she is under star circle management.

she even lied before, she denied dating joseph when in fact she really did date him.

Sandara is like trying to paint a clean image of herself in korea. When in fact its already known in the phils that she is a party girl and very flirty with celebrity boys when she was staying in the phils.

    • danan says:

“she even lied before, she denied dating joseph when in fact she really did date him.”

yea. she really dated him.. and she also announced it!

    • yushin says:

he was talking about Hero, but the picture was Joseph..
she denied Hero and acknowledge Joseph as her ex…

    • ahhhhhhhh says:

“she even lied before, she denied dating joseph when in fact she really did date him.”

…Are you a filipino?? Because I have known her since SCQ days and I know she never denied her relationship with Joseph.. Almost all filipinos know that. You make wrong assumptions.

“Sandara is like trying to paint a clean image of herself in korea. When in fact its already known in the phils that she is a party girl and very flirty with celebrity boys when she was staying in the phils.”

…. really where did you get that? party girl? flirt? LOL Sandara Park is definitely the last person I would think to be like that. She had a very funny, sweet, young innocent image back in the Philippines. She doesn’t need to “paint a clean image” because her image back then is already pure and honest. Filipinos were also shock that she posed on UNO because its far from her image but its not that big deal coz almost all filipino artist posed in a sexy magazine. Funny you. getting all wrong information about Dara.

    • 123grr says:

She didn’t lie just because she was ashamed of it or whatever. You do have to understand that artists (it doesn’t matter which country) have to keep things to themselves and might be instructed to say something else because more than anything, they have the public interest on them to take care of.

      • lilie says:

You don’t know how the philippine showbiz system works… its so corrupted and they just fed on Dara’s vulnerability. And excuse me! Dara flirted with whom? now you tell me!
and don’t you know that joseph have an affair with jap-pilipina when Dara was away in Korea for a vacation.
Sandara was always a victim here in the Phil. At first she was made a laughing stock because of her accent… but many filipinos also love here (the good ones and not racist unlike some here who commented). And don’t say you know the real Dara because I do!

Her father took her hard earned money and leave them for another woman..
Joseph that tomboy looking guy, cheated on her.
And most people in phil showbiz are two face fakers who took advantage of Dara’s naivety..
Look at the Phil. youngstars here… even the popular ones if they are not subjected to pose in a sexy mag. They are given love scenes…..actually i feel sorry for them =(

        • lilie says:

Im referring this statement to anabel and not to 123grr..

And lolita, you and you’re creative imagination!! lol..
they own a korean restaurant here in the Philippines before she joined show business.
She’s not that poor to live in squatters area.
She shoots a movie at a squatter are with hero.. that’s all….
          Very funny fairytale story! ^.^

          • danan says:

are you telling me she was bullied by the filipinos? haha.. sooo… filipinos are bullies now huh! nice one! that’s the nicest way to ruin filipino’s image. good job!

        • Roxy_Is_Ferox says:

          @lilie

are you a filipino or simply a foreigner trying to be all-knowing about Pinoy Entertainment industry?

so, it’s degrading to pose in men’s mag as well as given love scenes. Honey, if you are underage you won’t be given things like that or FHM, MAXIM, UNO will get a flack for tolerating minors to pose in men’s mag. GMA and ABS-CBN will be screwed for tolerating minors to do zexy scenes. Well, there was such thing as “bold genre” in this industry but nowadays, the rule is a bit stricter and they won’t tolerate minors to do such things.

one more thing, Sandara is too old enough to pose in men’s mag….and I believe UNO is responsible enough to choose who will pose.

So you feel sorry that Angel Locsin and Anne Curtis posed for men’s mag? You don’t need to, because these women own their sexiness and THEY PWN! These women can project sexiness and still get the respect they deserve.

    • yep says:

      wow.

another filipino who is a sandara-hater.
(actually, many filipino kpop fans hate sandara. mostly fans of **. idk why.)

      Man! you’re pathetic.

we all know here in the philippines how good sandara was to her fans and how humble she was back here. no one complains about her attitude. to all who would read this, do some research and you would see.

let’s assume that the ‘joseph’ issue is a bit true. so what??? i believe her management forced her to deny that and it’s because they just want the best for the new dara. they didn’t want anymore controversy.

and saying that sandara is flirty, wth?
i don’t know that she was like that to other CELEBRITY guys. LOL how come there’s no news about it? can you name some of THESE CELEBRITIES??? i’ll bet you can’t give any. (only joseph.. :D)

WE ALL KNOW WHO’S LYING HERE.

      you’re creating a fuss.

did you read the whole article, she already said that she consented the shoot. Duh???
all she was saying that she did that without thinking what would be the consequences of her action.

      better leave dara alone.

Her filipino fans even follow her career in korea to show their love.

      AGAIN,
WE ALL KNOW HOW GOOD OF A PERSON SANDARA WAS.

    • Roxy_Is_Ferox says:

“Sandara is like trying to paint a clean image of herself in korea. When in fact its already known in the phils that she is a party girl and very flirty with celebrity boys when she was staying in the phils.”

Sweetheart, where did you get that source?

Is is wrong to visit clubs just to unwind? So it’s pretty bad to go there because you’ll be labelled as partygirl.
Not all people go to clubs are party animals. Some just to unwind. Some just to socialize. Some just want to go crazy. All have their own reasons for going to clubs.

I don’t even know Sandara very well, nor even seen her in person, but I’ve been scouring different entertainment mags here in the PI and she was not even pictured like ala-Paris Hilton or Britney Spears in partying. Also, did you forget that she had her concert in Zirkoh (a popular comedy bar)? So, it’s decadent to go to comedy bars because it’s simply a bar….

      Check yer sources dearie.

    • Nidz says:

Sandara is not my fav before…but i give my opinion too..

Sandara needs to denied joseph… she’s with Herosan before, its showbiz ok…THAT’S SHOWBIZ in the Phils.

She never say tricked in the interview…please read it carefully before you comment..

She has no manager at that time, ABS-CBN help her for other project..

  4. lolita says:

of curs she did it for money.
Her family lived in a squatter area in the phils.
    They are poor here.

whats up with her? she’s lying obviously.

    • Aprot says:

geez, they lived in a condo, studied in a private school and ran a family business, not rich but definitely not poor.

lying? its just your assumptions, she was there, your not, If youre really filipino you should know how dirty the industry is here in the phil. Yes, she was not forced to do it, but she cant back down either that time even if she’s not comportable doing the shoot.

      • eh says:

I’m pretty sure that was before her dad got bankrupt, and the reason they moved to the Philippines to start all over again. So she did go from rich to rags. I’m not sure how bad her life became after the bankruptcy, but I don’t think she was in private school in the Philippines. However, I don’t know for sure. I just know that her dad was rich and they lost it all, and that’s why they moved to the Philippines.

        • Aprot says:

Her father got bankcrupt first in Korea then her father moved to the Phil to do business. Dara together with the rest of the family moved to the Phil after her fathers business became a success. She studied in a Chinese private school, that why she knows how to speak a little chinese. Dara’s father got bankcrupt again in the Phil. but was already a YG trainee at that time, her family still in the Phil though. After the business got bankcrupt the rest of the family moved back to Korea.

It may be true that her popularity and work as a celebrity is in a decline the time she did the shoot but their business is not yet bankcrupt at that time. Yes she’s paid to do the shoot but she’s not badly in need of it at that time.

        • boom says:

It wasn’t directly for monetary reasons, I think. I believe this was the time when she was actually losing her popularity — someone suggested to her that she make a risky photoshoot so she could make another splash, as well as to show that she could be more versatile when it comes to making projects. She still have her savings from her gigs when she did this.

    • yushin says:

she didn’t live in a squatter area, they lived in a condo somewhere in Pasay…

    • ahhhhhhhh says:

LOL she studied in a private school and live in a condo..

  5. Olivia says:

Eh. What’s the big deal? She’s not doing anything illegal.

  6. danan says:

she’s talking about Diether Ocampo right?

    • Aprot says:

Yes she’s talking about Diet. The guy is a douchebag and cannot be trusted. Do you think Kristine would leave him if his not?

  7. allana says:

you guys judge so bad… idiots…
Trust me, in Philippines, you have to lie about everything
I don”t know any celebrity in Philippines that don’t lie except Michael V.

  8. Kimmieunni says:

Poor Dara… I believe you are lying to cover up your shame.

    • Aprot says:

So you’d rather trust a men’s magazine which exploits women? she’s not even ashamed of it, just sad for her parents who were greatly affected.

    • eh says:

Right because that cover is pretty much porn, and that’s why she should be ashamed. I suppose Tyra Banks should be ashamed for doing the cover for Sports Illustrated and other supermodels as well for that matter. Woman on men’s magazine what a shocker, call the police.

      • Aprot says:

have you even seen a porn mag? call the police? ill call a mental institution cause you need help. Though it’s a mens mag, you should read the interview that goes together with the shoot. In the Phil. it is common and accepted for local celeb to pose in that mag. Even Bianca Gonzales posed in that mag recently.

        • Kamixk says:

Oh i see, but at her age if seen many people pose like that in W magazine Korea, and other places. I think people are just shocked in korea because she didn’t seem like the type. Sometimes even i forget that she’s not 16.

        • eh says:

Do you know what sarcasm is. Or are you just unable to read? I’ll let you re-read my comment, and if you still don’t get it, then we’ll call the mental institute you seem fond off.

          • Sidewinding says:

Hahaha! Good one. Apparently, people here lack the capacity to distinguish sarcasm.

        • Roxy_Is_Ferox says:

correct girl! i believe people should distinguish between porn and sexy. yes, sandara’s pose could be sexy but that was done not slutty.

i guess the girl commented above haven’t watched or read porn… hehehe…. well, seriously. the problem with dimwitted people is, they keep on connoting sexiness with slutty/porn-ness. man! deserving to be thrown to mental institution….

    • Nidz says:

She did not deny about it, please read carefully before you comment… even tho is not quite good (the shoot).

She said “I accepted the photo shoot offer because I wanted to show a different side of me.”

She’s honest, you can see the “aura” of a person… she’s very honest, her honesty make her sometimes make negative the people…

I remember her said that ” Hero is not my type of guy”….people (herosan) disappointed about that….

Sandara went to Chinese School, private, thats why she know chinese (maybe not fluent but atleast she can communicate to other student)

Whatever her Dad did before (stafa case), Dara’s not her fault…why dont we give her a chance… How come if we are the one in Sandara’s case, what will you do?

After her parents divorced, shes been the one who is responsible to her family….Im pity and envy of her..
envy becoz shes very strong and take the responsibility for the family…pity her coz still hav a destructor….

i watched her in Radio show saying “Mom, if you are listening, Don’t be sick, Let’s start living happily, because this is the beginning. I’ll make you live comfortably now. Mom, I love you!”

  9. kekeke says:

are her outfits in the shoot really any different than some of the costumes some of these girl groups are wearing on stage? lol just teasing~ :P

  10. eh says:

I suppose I should throw up a storm, because 2PM and MBLAQ’s Lee Joon and Beast’s Kikwang take of their tops, right. I mean since we’re being fair and all.

Korea is conservative no doubt, but this was shot in the Philippines. Whether Sandara is lying or not, I don’t know. I’m sure she is painting a sweet image on screen, I don’t doubt she is strong-willed or knows how to get things she wants. All celebrities play a role, and more so in Korea. However, some Korean people need a reason to voice their opinion regardless. Someone should send them a memo, and title it “No one wants to hear it”

It looks like a typical “for men” photo shoot. Something you’d see in FHM or something. As a 2NE1 fan does this disgust me? Hell no, I live in the 21st century, and I gotta add the make-up is the only problem I have. The vampire look was never cool ;)

  11. AinHI says:

Weather her story is perfectly accurate or not, just looking at her face in those photos, it seems clear she’s not having much fun. Maybe she wasn’t tricked, and did in fact agree but then had some doubts in the middle of it all. Either way I feel for her. Those pics are kind of hard to just get over and go on to be a bubbly fun celebrity with bright colored clothes and cutesy themes =/

  12. Tempress says:

She’s 25 in my books she’s a grown woman. She can do what she wants.

  13. vulgarchic says:

She’s a grown women and she looked great minus the make-up.
I’ve come to realise that Dara is a fierce and independent woman who has been through a lot in her life but has come out okay.
That shoot seems like something you’d see in FHM it’s not porn at all, it’s not even that revealing in my opinion.
I’m glad she can confidently talk about it, she doesn’t seem ashamed she just talks about it in a matter of fact way. I think people are over it now anyway :)

  14. Pully says:

So what ? It’s not like she was the only celebrity wears bikini in Korea anyways.

  15. aesthetic_height says:

hypocrites. i bet if it was some other female korean celebrity, you guys would be casting stones.

    • boom says:

Have you ever thought that half of the people who commented here are actually aware of how this is a part of another entertainment industry? Just because some people happened to know the real thing doesn’t mean they’re hypocrites. Should we bash her, regardless of how much we know what really happened during that period of her life, just so we won’t appear as “hypocrites” in your and other people’s eyes?

  16. Angel says:

Though I don’t like her singing and feel that she doesn’t really suit 2NE1 I do have a true soft spot for Dara and do actually like her.
I don’t blame her for conflicting stories, I blame YG. She’s dealt with a lot and being 25 I believe she knows what she expects and wants from life. I don’t think Dara regrets this photoshoot, she doesn’t seem like the person who would worry about something like this. YG has her put up this front that gives her an image appropriate for Korea. Just like they give her an image appropriate for 2NE1 whether or not it’s appropriate for her. Spending a good chunk of her life in the Phillipines, she is similar to the idols that come from canada or the usa. What they find as no big deal is a huge deal in korea.

  17. lcds says:

some people here are just so jealous

  18. 123grr says:

She wasn’t tricked. That’s what’s fcuked up here. I’m not saying Dara was lying, but I’m betting something was lost in translation.

Posing for a sexy magazine here in the Philippines is more mainstream compared to say, Korea but it varies greatly from one actress to another. Why? More than anything, the actress and her manager or whatever still has the final say. Magazines like this one are pretty legit. They send offers to possible actresses, and it’s up to the actress if she’ll accept it. Furthermore, before the shoot commences, they have a pre-meeting where the staff explains the concept. Changes could be made according to the actress’ request. They don’t force photoshoots, nor trick people. If the actress couldn’t agree with the concept, they find another one. That’s it.

Dara probably lacked understanding, or she probably didn’t understand how serious the concept was until she went on it. But tricked? Hell no. This magazine is under her former agency’s publication wing. Also, I’m doubting that ’she doesn’t have a manager’ thing. She might not have one, but contract artists like here do have handlers there to see things through. A contract artist like her is prohibited to take projects alone.

Cultural differences? Yes there is, but I hope you’re not implying negatively. This one incident, although common, doesn’t represent the whole entertainment industry of our country. There is more to it than that.

    • Nidz says:

Hey she never say tricked! Cant you understand? Please understand carefully of the article b4 you comment!

And in the philippines, its always happen to a photoshoot…..

  19. nicky says:

um i think she is lying because uno is a men’s magazine. i mean why would she accept the photoshoot if she is not aware of the things that they publish there. also i think one of the reason’s why she did that photoshoot was because here career in the philippines went down the drain after she left for korea to train or audition to yg at the peak of her career, so after she returned she wasn’t as famous as before cause i remember her producing her own concert but it totally failed because of lack of promotion and i’m guessing that her last straw of getting back to fame in the philippines is by doing the photoshoot i mean in the philippines you either switch from being innocent to sexy image or the other way around. also sandara never admited her relationship with joseph. it was joseph who admitted it first since i remember taping it. another thing people telling her that she doesn’t have a manager remember on th 2ne1tv when she went back to the philippines the first thing she said was that i’m going to contact my manager so i don’t know was she lying or was she not about the whole thing.

  20. sunny says:

Let’s end this by saying that Philippines is just a history of her past and people whose criticizing her would just sit and watch Dara with envy while she is having a successful career in Korea.

Go on with your lives….. don’t troll her coz I think you’re all pathetic…

    • Roxy_Is_Ferox says:

…..mmmm, on a lighter note, filipinos can watch her with envy…. but not driving her to suicide. Filipino fans could be cyberbullies but not to the point of driving a celebrity crazy till die. there are so many local celebs biachier than her but still staying in the limelight.

  21. Memouri says:

you have to consider that this was taken in another country with a different culture, so getting judged in korea for this is rather ridicules, for example this in my country would not be considered sexy enough cuz she is wearing a bikini bottom that covers her well, when where i’m from every girl in the beach wears a thong and its normal and no one get critized for it, cuz its a different culture with different views, i’m not filipino, nor have i been there, but understand of cultural differences. Plus as hard headed as she may be, she looks rather naive, i dont find it hard to believe that they scammed her.

  22. Roxy_Is_Ferox says:

As far as I can remember, I once read this article last year.

Unfortunately, people are freakin’ judgemental when it comes to posing to men’s magazine, not to mention double-standarding. When a guy poses sexy to the point of nudity, he doesn’t get a flack, when a woman does that, she’s being labelled a slut/whore/easy-lay. Philippines may be equally conservative compared to Korea; however, most of us—-especially our generation—-we don’t see posing in men’s mag as PORN. As long as it’s done with taste, not mind-blowingly provocative, and women not looking slutty, woman deserves respect.

So, since most of our major local leading ladies posed for men’s mag, they are now sluts/whores? So for the big celebs Angel Locsin, Marian Rivera, Katrina Halili, Valerie Concepcion, Anne Curtis, Iwa Moto, Cristine Reyes are now sluts/easy-lay/whores simply because they posed in Men’s mag? If you have that mindset, I’ll gonna laught at you all. Well, opinions are opinions, but sometimes would we all have enough logic to analyze and differentiate between sexy and slutty or worse… porn-ish?

Y’all can’t blame Sandara Park. In fact, when that UNO Mag issue featuring Sandy (as we Pinoy fans call her), it went sold-out. She got a flack from some Pinoy antis NOT BECAUSE OF SHE TURNED SLUT but because SHE AIN’T THAT SEXY TO POSE FOR MEN’S MAG (Quite frankly, Japanese AV stars are damn hot and sexier than her. I deem ‘meaty’ women ’sexy’). I felt so bad when I bashed her out of network war (i think it’s inappropriate to discuss network war in this thread and blog). When this issue broke out in Korea—-plus her so-called relationships with Joseph Bitagcol and Hero Angeles—-and she was bashed like ‘more than being desperate’, I felt bad for her. I was like…. man! I’ve never thought Korean fandom could be self-righteously so-called conservative than expected. In our case, as Filipinos, women can pose sexy in men’s mag and still deserve our respect. Angel Locsin posed in FHM, and MAXIM but she is one of the most-respected actress in town, and even garnered nomination from EMMY AWARDS for her awesome acting in LOBO (hmmmm…. am I provoking envy at anyone?…and not pertaining to my fellow Pinoys?)

  23. Roxy_Is_Ferox says:

    (continuation)

Anyways, back to her issue, I could understand her. That time, her career went downhill. In the Philippine entertainment setting, there is a saying that creeps around it: STRIKE WHILE THE IRON IS HOT…so you have to take advantage of everything while you are at the peak of the popularity. If you take things for granted at your career climax, your pattern frustrates on its own accord…and that was the biggest mistake Sandara made. She was at the height of promotions for CAN THIS BE LOVE when she decided to go back to Korea for studies, and she was not around for 6 months. When she finally arrived, that is already the PINOY BIG BROTHER MANIA, and Sandara was forgotten, giving her cold reception when she had a comeback performance. She was even toppled by the popularity of Kim Chiu—the most-sought teen star in town nowadays. Her relationship with Joseph Bitangcol also affected her career as well because almost everyone hates Joseph for her, even calling him as ‘used’. We all wanted her for Hero Angeles, but up to now, I still couldn’t understand why Hero is so embittered with Sandara. If she needed money, what’s wrong with it? I could understand that. In addition to this, her father squandered all of her hard-earned money and went bonkers with another woman, even beating her mom. The latest we heared about her father? He was jailed for estafa… that was 2007 then…

As I agree with some of our commenters here, posing in men’s mag,,, or going sexy would be the last resort to garner popularity. That’s what the big time actresses did here in the Philippines. Some of them gone naked on big screen, and despite the flack they receive from conservatives, they get respect from male and open-minded female fans. Some of you can call it ‘women objectification’…but no…because in the end, some of the actresses-went-zexy eventually became the top-notch actresses. Sometimes, going daring could be the test of “how much chutzpah do you have”, “how much emotions do you have for this role” whatsoever, but this is not always the case among Pinoy actresses, as well as Pinoy actors. Some went stagnant, some went bonkers.

I guess showing some skin doesn’t necessarily mean you are losing your dignity or self-respect. As with the old saying goes around among Filipinos, “Nasa Nagdadala lang Yan…Ang magandang paraan ng pagdadala ng sarili mo at pakikitungo mo sa tao ang makakapagbigay sa iyo ng respeto…” (My fellow Filipinos, please translate this for Seoulbeats’ sakes) Trust me, projecting sweet image won’t guarantee you respect from people. We already witnessed that. No need for explanation.

I’m glad Kuya YG stood by her despite the almost-negativity to circulate in Korea. If she happened to be in other entertainment companies, she will be freezed by management in no-time or worse, she has to go thru ala- Jang Jayeon (RIP).

For some of her statements, I am giving her the benefit of the doubt that she was not made aware that this will be the concept of photoshoot, as well as denying her love affair with Joseph, I still respect her.

As for having relationships… man! When will y’all learn. I understand we differ in culture, but we are living in 21st Century were celibacy is mandatory among youth till marriage. I could understand if Idols are below 20s not to have GFs or BFs, but in 20s above and still not allowed? That’s abnormal. You fandom could have lovers of your own, as well as husbands… and if you got older and still waiting for your idol to marry you, this means you never grew up. End of story.

One more thing Seoulbeats, I am not requiring you to have at least knowledge about Philippine entertainment industry, but please don’t take some ’sexiness’ in the Philippines negatively. Yes, exploitation also exist here, the never-ending crappy network war between ABS-CBN and GMA, crab mentality, the “one-time big-time” syndrome, but doesn’t mean it’s all-negative here in the P.I.

If Katrina Halili took couple months before getting back to spotlight after going thru a shameful sex video, Ivy took her 2 years to comeback. Marian Rivera could bitch the hell behind the cameras, getting a flack for being old-looking/BF-snatcher/bratty, but still has her loyal fans…still a hot issue. Maricar Reyes was a rising star when got into bongo video hullaballoo; ironically, she rose to fame like nothing happened. Valerie Concepcion is a single mom (she got preggy on her teen years), and she has respect from her fans and Wowowee viewers.

Sometimes, it’s those who support you, and how you carry yourself. Sometimes, it’s how strong and sane you are in the midst of your trials. I dunno… Philippines is infested with crapload of shenanigans and craze, but that makes entertainment world colorful. Crazy, but not HORROR

yawn at the novel length response and while i do agree with most of your points here, i think posting the whole 3 comments box analogy of the Philippine entertainment industry is rather irrelevant. remember that this is a korean-focused entertainemnt site. you’re making Filipinos looking rather defensive to the point of revulsion. no one needs to know the details irrelevant to the subject matter. how about creating your own blog, rant there, post a link here and that’s it.

anyway. i agree with the person emntioning the possible “lost in translation” scenario. something is definitely off. an artist is not allowed to come to a project without handlers, if there isn’t one there she could have called and ask for help right. but that’s over now. she already moved on and came out stronger than before and that’s why i admire her a lot.

    • Roxy_Is_Ferox says:

      @mrsnickjonas…

in what points that I’ve made filipinos look defensive? Honey, you don’t need to tell me to make a blog because I already have one….yet I hate giving what blog I have because i was like promoting here man!

I am not making Filipinos defensive here. I am just making comparisons regarding cultural differences here. I never made any Filipinos nice on this blog since Filipinos has their share of being cyberbullies (check PinoyExchange), but quite frankly, we never resorted to some menacing killers like you-know-who-they-are. Also, I never flaunted Pinoy Entertainment Industry anything better than Korean Entertainment industry since the former totally irked me with all the craps its has on certain levels. Also, my purpose of giving these 3-boxed elaborations just to agree with “123grrr” who commented Seoulbeats as like “representing Pinoy Entertainment industry the negative way” or something similar.

On a lighter note, my apologies for dragging irrelevant stuff like mentioning Pinoy Entertainment Industry. While I am annoyed with some cheapskates surrounding the said industry, I feel like “whoa….at least I am not feeling embittered” compared to the gloom I see on Kpop Industry. Sometimes, I can’t help feeling bad at their artists for putting themselves to submission for the fans… it’s like “ang fans ang nang-aapak ng mga artista”
despite all the love and too much affection they give to idols. (If you know tagalog, you know what that means)

Moreover, while I felt sorry for the bashings I did to Sandara out of network war, I felt nothing but respects for her. Yeah, I’m unnie to her (I’m turning 28 BTW, working in a Call Center), but I feel like I want to cook “Sinigang na baboy/hipon”, “Sisig”, “Pinakbet” for her as older sister for her. Another thing, she may “almost talentless” during her fame here in the Philippines, I liked her usual randomness. She looks more natural in all levels than her competitors of her time. She seems to be real than any young actresses of her time.

So obvious that the trolls are fans of the other group. Dara’s pics are not even that bad at least YG is not promoting Dara as a sweet image girl not like the other groups who is supposed to be sweet image but shaking their asses and wearing short shorts. Please if you dont know the facts just shut up because its really annoying talking to an idiot.

    • Roxy_Is_Ferox says:

      Yeah babe!

One thing to add, Sandara is looking natural than the girlgroup you’ve mentioned you-know-who-are-they (sooooooooooooo wannabe you almost don’t wanna mention them). Besides, compared to those girls, and despite Sandara’s skinny frame, Sandy (as what we Pinoys call her) looked even sexy enough to pull-off in a sweet way, not trashy lookin’. Imagine Y——, J——-, T——– pose in a BDSM fashion, I swear, Jap AV stars looked they pwn these girls. I deem “meaty, butt-sy, boobsy” women zexy.

One more thing, “sweetness” is not YG trademark.
Astig-ness has always been the YG Family character since their trademark of hiphop is hardcore the Korean way. You notice most YG artists never harbored the saccharine-cuteness compared to SM artists

  27. HiWorld says:

idiot if yu were given a name to the magazine you shoulda done some research on it..
not that i really care about Dara but w/e

  28. naomz says:

antis can hate her for all they want, but that magazine wouldn’t change the fact that sandara is famous (again) now. and people who care about her, and people who buy her groups’ album and endorsements do not care about this issue anymore. funny how us who care about her have moved on and you antis/hater/butt hurters still have not!

  29. omg says:

“‘She accepted as [the photoshoot] was the suggestion of one of her seniors who worked for a broadcast company that also ran a magazine. She believed it when she was told she would just have to wear a skirt and a top. ‘UNO’, the magazine that offered Sandara her photo shoot was actually a prestigious male magazine.”

=> i think i’m familiar about the “senior” she was referring to. i felt sorry for that person. i don’t know but i couldn’t believe she didn’t know about the theme of the photo shoot. there’s something off with this statement. i’m quite disappointed with her statements. so far, i could only shake heads with her interview. *sigh*

  30. yaminoshuuen says:

I think what happened was Dara went on hiatus for quite a while and when she came back to the Philippines her career was kinda shaky. I even remembered her guesting in the Sunday Showbiz Talkshow “The Buzz” werein she stated that she was surprised that when she came back it wasn’t as warm as it was before when she left for Korea to study and that made her really sad. She has no projects then, no TV shows and no movies.

So, to revive her career Dara went on to pose sexy for UNO magazine. At that time posing sexy for magazines (i.e. FHM, UNO, MAXIM) is used by starlets as an easy way for stardom. Unfortunately, it didn’t worked out for Dara. So, she decided to leave Philippines and go back to Korea for good.

I really like Dara, she is a wonderful person. I am happy that now she was able to find her place in the grueling world of showbusiness. I know that this is what she wants since she was a child and I’m happy that somehow all her hard work had payed off.

Let’s not be judgemental. There’s a reason behind everything and Dara deserves to be respected as a person. Peace out!

  31. Lucy says:

I am a huge fan of 2NE1 and damn Dara is always the one to bring out a smile. This is a case of lost in translation. I saw vids of her when she was in the Phillipines, and I can’t say she looked happy. I think she deserves a second chance.

Can I also say that DAMN she is too skinny! Put some meat on those bones, sweety!

  32. AmPsChaN says:

    It’s like this:

During the year 2006, Sandara Park’s fame in the Philippines was fading rapidly. She needed to do something else to make fans continue noticing her. Her “Krung krung” image in the Philippines that time wasn’t working anymore… This was the time when Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition got famous. Because teens like Kim Chiu auditioned and there were many other young actors rising, Sandara decided to “change her image”.

That’s why she decided to do the shoot.

Since nobody cared (in the Philippines) that the sweet Sandy was turning into a sexy woman, the shoot was a complete flop. Her fame was totally over when new actors like Kim Chiu started taking over the Philippine Showbiz, and she decided to leave Philippines and searched for a new career in Korea. And presto! We have 2NE1.

You can’t really blame her for doing that shoot. It’’s really hard to be a star here in the Philippines because people want something new all the time and her image just wasn’t working anymore…

    LISTEN GUYS:

yes, i agree that sandy is just trying to paint a clean image (for korea). i can’t possibly imagine she was tricked to do the pictorials! my goodness!!! if the filipino fans would know that they would get berserk.!! and take note, she was known to be frank and direct spoken kind of girl, and she always says what she wants, but she’s still considered as a very nice girl. (coz she is). i remembered there was even a promotional about her cover in that mag. and also, that mag is owned by a famous actor in philippines, so i don’t think they would risk putting someone or tricking someone to do this kind of thing. in case some people forgotten, philippines is a conservative country but not like korea who’s fans are always going on the throat to the celebrities who do this kind of thing.

in philippines, when an actor or actress wanted to be taken seriously as a mature actress (not the usual cutey cutey type), they usually sign in sexy pictorials to get noticed. or they would do a daring role in movies or shows. (but not the kind of daring that looks real daring to the max! :D).

also, in philippine showbiz, the ‘cutey cutey role’ would not last long. unlike korea that they really dig this kind of role. filipinos usually like roles that are serious and true-to-life roles..

i do understand though why sandy said that she was tricked. korea ‘biz is really tough!!! all that fans and antis!! phew!!!

  34. ganda sana ni Katrina Halili but yung scandal ruined her career.`,~

  35. ang ganda talaga ni maricar, mestisa, matangkad at slim pa ang katawan.-`.
