The following is my personal opinion on Brian Joo, the Korean artist. It’s fine if it doesn’t tickle your pickle, but please remember this is strictly the opinion of one person.
I’ve been a superfan of Brian Joo since his Fly to the Sky days. The man can sing, dance, and entertain unlike most KPOP stars and has been around the Korean entertainment block for years and years now. There’s no denying his talent and his love for music. I’ve personally met and interviewed the star and he was quite pleasant and kind.
Joo is known for his ballads with fellow partner in crime Hwanhee. They’ve belted out to some of the best old-school Korean songs known to man and for years I was convinced that Joo could do no wrong in my eyes. Fast forward to the future and he’s got two solo albums under his belt and one successful career. We must remember that though he’s competing with the big cahoonas of KPOP like Big Bang, he manages to hold down his fort. Whoopee!
The song that ironically is stuck “in my head” these days is Jason DeRulo’s “In My Head.” The song is dope, catchy, and addictive and when I heard Brian did a Korean version of the single, I didn’t know how to feel. It wasn’t until I saw the official music video and live performance did I want to scream in despair. Why, oh why Brian?
Watching him attempt to grind with fellow lady dancers and sing a song about how him doing a girl is playing out in his head is just completely and utterly awkward and strange to me. I honestly believe it’s because of the persona we see on variety shows. He is the original Jo Kwon and that character and this Korean version of DeRulo has got me confused in so many different ways. I just didn’t get it at all.
All in all, Joo’s got my respect for sustaining a long lasting career in a world where you’re hot one day and not the next. But for future reference, please no more humping and pumping.

i like both versions of the song and i don’t really care for the music video coz it doesn’t change the fact that Brian Joo is still a very good entertainer..
verdict: like the song, like the artist, mv is irrelevant (to me)..
i don’t see anything awkward with it.. that’s just me
somebody made a remix of the song with both the English and the Korean interpretations of the song in it..

haha ellie i see what you mean but i love this side of brian. he’s hot in this mv. no awkwardness at all!
Agreed with Ellie. I’m not used to this new Brian. I miss the classiness that he used to exude.
nether am I! I feel like he want to be a little more like someone else, instead of what people like him for… HIMSELF. But what Tai said could be true.
People change. Maybe this is who he really is. I don’t find it awkward at all, but I’m not Korean. I am beginning to learn that alot of what Koreans find awkward is isn’t a big deal to me. a difference of opinion is cool and I can respect your view.
Brian’s lyrics don’t seem as overtly sexual as Derulo’s. I like Brian’s lyrics better because of that. However, the music video doesn’t seem to reflect the lyrics — he fell in love with this one girl, can’t get her out of his head, yet he’s dancing provocatively with how many girls? But, what is a single guy singer going to add to his music video to add some oompf? Girls. Bottom line – love the song. Video — not so much.
I hav no problem watching the video
but TOTALLY agree when watching the live performance
utterly awkward
Don’t know about the video but the live performance sucked wth happened I was under the impression he was talented . Yes he should stick to ballads . I like Jason version more simply because he says ~ Jasonnnn Derulooooooo~ it’s my favorite part of all his songs
Yeah I found the performance to be a bit awkward, esp the body wave with the dancer chick.
But I find that his voice fits the song really well, I like it.
So maybe its just a matter of poor choreography?
He’s supposed to be singing with jason soon!
You made me think the video would be really awkward to watch, but the only thing that is uncomfortable to me about it is how low budget it looks. I do think it would be weird to see Jokwon in a video like this, but I don’t think Brian is as flamboyant as Jokwon is. He isn’t the manliest man, but I don’t think he is trying to be anything he isn’t in this video.
that’s exactly what i was thinking. i couldn’t place my finger on it, but yes, it’s how low budget it looks. hmmm….i love brian but i don’t know. i’ll just keep listening to the song for his sake. as for the permed hair…..i can’t commit to that
Well, I don’t know about the old Brian that much, but I think that in this industry, it’s really hard to keep the attention of the people you’re entertaining. Sometimes, if you have any other ideas, you just sexify everything you do xD. It’s hard to be original and good.
i just dont like the boyband-but-a-teensy-little-more-grown-up look that he’s going for.
original Jo Kwon minus the GAY
I think that if Brian likes it then it fine and I’m gonna support him.
It’s not like his public persona is really that well known. He does get spotted at a certain restaurant in Seoul with a different girl every week. Who cares, the guy is pimpin…..!
ellie, for once I actually don’t agree. I see nothing wrong with the video, and the lyrics are say nothing extreme, compared to the english version. I think he did a great job in it, i’m very used to his really funny character but i think he managed to pull this off really well.
wow way to be a bitch.
I can’t stand Brian Joo or Hwanhee. Fanny is a total snob and Brian is so fake and whiney. Everyone thinks he’s so kind and sweet but if you watch him on variety shows he’s really just an asshole with a high pitched voice.
People change. Who knows, maybe this is how he really is, but because the industry is chaging he must change with it. Just listen to Big Bang Lollipop2 song. It’s about a cellphone for fricks sake, however the lyrics are clearly sexua and urging this “lollipop girl” to bend over, shake it, turn the lights off, and hump. haha.
I really wish Brian could have just come up with his own song rather than borrowing Jason D’s song. I don’t feellike it’s going to give him any cred. Also, the lyrics didntmatch the video (in fact, the korean lyrics didn’t even match the english lyrics in the song…it went from “I really likeyou, youmake me nervous” to “You’re going to orgasm”…0_o)
eh…i really don’t like it. but kudos to him for tryingsomething new.
Not digging the mv but I think he sounds good in the song
Hmm, I agree in that I don’t get the mv in relation to the lyrics, but the song itself is really addictive and great overall. Perhaps if he had gone in a different direction with the concept it woulda…well just made more sense really :)
i agree.. i see nothing wrong with it and i think the remake is pretty good. but yes.. his perm has got to go haha i mean.. really??
the bigining sounds like G-dragon, he has enough talent to NOT do that, I like the old Brian but he has to go with the flow in order to sell records, otherwise he won’t be able to make money…it’s the reality of it all
