The Family’s Last Farewell

The continuation for the Family’s last outing began with the Family’s Love Line game where the members had to couple up to avoid morning chore duty.  Jae Suk was MC, and on the guys’ side were Jong Kook, Chun Hee, Daesung, Jong Shin, and SuRo on the gals’ side was Hyori, Ye Jin, and Hae Jin?  Shi Yeon had re-injured her back during the day so she wasn’t participating in all the activities so they stuck Hae Jin on the girls side to try and make things a little more even.  I wonder how Hae Jin got stuck being with the girls?  He did look pretty hot as a girl when they did their BEG parody in episode 80.

They all introduce themselves with Hyori claiming she was 29, but they call her on it and she admits she’s 32 (in May).  Hyori tries to impress by showing off some English skills and telling the guys “If you choice me, you can have a house,” you gotta love Hyori.  I hope she finds herself a good man soon.  When it was time to choose a partner this is what happened in the first round.

Jong Kook picks Ye Jin who picks Jong Kook, then Chun Hee picks Ye Jin who stays with Jong Kook, Daesung picks Hyori and thinks she picks him back, but she actually picks Jong Shin who also chooses Hyori, and Su Ro selects Hae Jin who rejects him and picks Chun Hee. They all go back to their seats for another round of questions and some hot looks.

Hyori tells everyone she likes an American style relationship with skinship to which Jong Shin readily replies he likes skinship.  The scandal of the night goes to the KookJin couple with Jong Kook whispering to Ye Jin that he loves her?  I’m guessing Hae Jin likes necks because all the guys try to show theirs off.  In the final round of voting Jong Kook again picks Ye Jin, but out of nowhere Ye Jin picks Su Ro.  Jong Kook asks if he can change his pick and starts sucking up to Hyori, but Hyori is no one’s second choice and blocks him.  Actually, I’m surprised Hyori didn’t smack Jong Kook with her bamboo pole for trying to pull that.  Anyway, Su Ro picks Ye Jin so they’re a couple and safe.  Chun Hee  thinks he’s safe by picking Hae Jin (and a bit too giddy doing it), Jong Kook again tries to win over Hyori by showing her some skinship, but somehow I don’t think a headlock is what Hyori was thinking about.  Hae Jin pulls a fast one on Chun Hee by picking Jong Kook.  Poor Daesung get his heart broken again picking his noona Hyori who again turns him down and picks Jong Shin who also chooses her making them a couple.  This leaves Jong Kook, Chun Hee, and Daesung to win over Hae Jin who ends up selecting Chun Hee so the small eyed brothers are left to do morning chores.  They have to pick two people to help them though, so Daesung picks Jae Suk and Jong Kook picks Hyori even though it was Ye Jin who let him down (the KookJin stuff was a front, KookRi forever!).

The morning chore crew has to get up at 5:00  am to go and make some pulled sugar candy.  Jae Suk is sick and coughing so they tell him to stay back and Hyori wakes up Chun Hee to go with them.  I wonder if Jae Suk is really sick or if he was faking it to get back at ChunHee for the time  when Chun Hee stole his first and only #1 ranked sleeping spot?  The morning chore of pulling candy actually looks kind of fun and of course Hyori is paired up with Jong Kook and they fight like an old married couple.

The PD again comes in to wake up Jae Suk to start of the Family’s last day together at 9:00 am.  The morning game is the one they did with Cha Seung Won where they have to blow a ping pong ball across a plastic tube to their opponent’s side.  The two shillangs Hae Jin and Chun Hee go first and are hilarious looking like they’re doing a ballet while playing, in the end Chun Hee loses.  Jong Kook is no match for Ye Jin, Su Ro easily takes out Jae Suk, Shi Yeon finishes off Jong Shin, Jae Suk takes down Jong Kook (way to go grasshopper!), Hyori rules Daesung, and Daesung takes out his sunbae Jong Shin, then Chun Hee takes down Jong Kook.  This leaves Jong Kook and Jong Shin in the final round with Jong Kook finally taking out the elder.  Jong Shin Picks Jae Suk and Ye Jin to do the chore with him which is to go to the market and sell the candy the others made  earlier.

At the market you can feel the love the people have for the Family who give them snacks, the grandparents especially love Jae Suk who breaks out into song and dance while selling his candy.  If you watch closely while they’re at the socks and hat stand a little grandma goes around Jong Shin then sneaks a piece of candy!  Hyori, Daesung, Hae Jin, and Chun Hee stay back at the house to make breakfast for the Family and the crew of 100.  Hyori pours water for Chun Hee and Hae Jin who are mixing dough for noodles, but she gives Chun Hee cold water to mix with while she gives Hae Jin hot water, poor Chunderella.  It becomes a battle of the lanky actors as they both try to show off their skills at kneading dough.  Daesung and Chun Hee try throwing tantrums to get out of work though they fool no one and Hyori and Hae Jin tell them to get back to work.  Su Ro, Jong Kook, and Shi Yeon also go to the market to pick up ingredients for breakfast.  They bring back fruits, snacks, and side dishes for the Family’s breakfast.

The Family finishes their soup for the crew and passes it out to everyone to enjoy, Su Ro tries doing some camera work while the crew eats and then the Family sits down for their last meal together (on the show at least).  The grandparents come home and the Family says their last goodbyes.  For the first time we see all the Family members leaving the location and as they leave they say goodbye to some of the crew and the PD.

They all look not happy, but content with their last episode.  It’s kind of surreal to me because I thought it would be so sad and everyone would be crying, but they’re not.  Then Hyori starts to tear up and aahhh, I lose it.  They all line up to leave with Jong Shin and Su Ro getting in their vans first and everyone waving happily goodbye, but then it’s Jae Suk’s turn.  As he waves goodbye to his dongsaengs, he sees Hyori wiping her tears and can’t just leave.  He goes down the line and hugs them all again, with a special pat on the head for his little sister.  Chun Hee and Jong Kook, leave next then Shi Yeon who almost gets into Hae Jin’s van, and then Hae Jin.  That leaves maknae Daesung with his two scary noonas Ye Jin and Hyori who leave one by one.  Daesung is by himself and instead of tears he pulls some funny dialogue to break up the sadness, but then kills it when as he leaves in his van he sings a line from the Family song.

They then show a preview of next week’s Family Outing Awards, which will help give closure to all of their broken hearted fans.  I think I would feel much more sad if I didn’t know that part of the reason that they all had to leave was that they have all become so successful and busy in their personal careers that they had to move on. The ending also shows a clip of Jae Suk  ’passing’ on the Family to Kim Won Hee and the members of Family Outing 2.  I have high hopes for season 2, it will not be the same without the original Family, but maybe it’ll be it’s own kind of goodness.

Family Outing brought me much laughter and joy and will always have a special place in my heart.  I will miss being able to watch the antics of Jong Shin, Su Ro, Jae Suk, Jong Kook, Hyori, Chun Hee, Shi Yeon, Ye Jin, Hae Jin, and Daesung every week, but will always appreciate all the time and effort they put into Family Outing.  I hope they all continue to prosper in their individual careers and look forward to what the future brings them. Family Outing, fighting! *can barely type through tears, sniff*

lol…haejin likes necks? haha. it’s cuz he says he likes really buff guys that are good at working out – so buff that their veins show and are all bulgey. so then the guys try to make all their veins pop. super funny actually. the joke about age from hyori and yejin is they said their “american age” which is 29 for hyori as she’ll be 30 in may (born in 79) but her korean age is 32. yejin is also says she’s 28 in american age.

When i travel overseas, FO videos are the ones that kept me going no matter how tough it got. I’ve come to love everyone of them and saying goodbye is really hard but i wish them all the happiness and success in the world. :)
