Jung Il Woo makes me melt
Despite his dazzling smile and quick shot to fame back in his High Kick glory days, Jung Il Woo remains an underrated actor, which is a darn shame. He had the bad luck of being in the second Iljimae drama The Return of Iljimae (following Lee Junki’s role), which I loved, and having said drama air at the same time as Boys Over Flowers. Sure, he was also in the not-so-great My Fair Lady with Yoon Eun Hye, but the man can’t help it if the script was less than well-written. So why am I gushing over Jung Il Woo when he doesn’t even have a drama in the works? Because he has just proven to me, once again, that he is an actor that cares about his craft.
Unfortunately for those living outside of S. Korea, Jung Il Woo is in the middle of his theater project, Beautiful Sunday, and it looks like it’s going to be a hit. Even though it’s Jung’s theater debut, he’s already earning high praise for his first lead role. The opening show wasn’t merely a sold-out success–part of the audience actually had to sit along the sides because there weren’t enough seats. Prior to the opening show, Jung received a lot of buzz as his character is gay and HIV-positive.
I feel that at the rate Jung Il Woo is going, he has an even brighter future ahead of him. The guy is talented, humble, and most importantly, hasn’t fallen into the usual shenanigans of the Korean entertainment industry. And honestly, his smile makes me all a-flutter. Like this:

agreed!! if you watch him on variety shows (namely happy together last year) he really is humble and very talented. can’t wait to see more of him this year!
