What the Bak?: DBSK & SNSD cards craze
Hi, my name is madhatter, and I’m a cards-o-holic.
Postcards, greeting cards, playing cards, trading cards-you name it, I like it. And I wish Santa would drop some of these bad boys down my chimney for Christmas. An online Korean shopping site called GMarket (www.gmarket.co.kr) has been selling special poster cards of KPop’s arguably most popular boy & girl groups, DBSK and SNSD respectively.

The site started selling these “Star Collection Cards” on Dec. 15th and already they have sold more than 100,000 units. The miniature glossy keepsakes come in assorted varieties where you can choose which “packaged bundles” of cards you desire to purchase. The KPop stars didn’t exclusively pose for any of the pictures, rather, the cards display already distributed images of the delicious eye candies. Because of the immense popularity and high demand, the card collection will be available offline in the near future.
In addition to selling random autographed items by the two groups (clothing they have personally worn, electronics, water bottles, sweatbands etc.) in conjunction with the cards, the site plans to offer cards displaying SHINee and Super Junior at a later date as well.
I know Korea’s big on cutesy-wutesy doodads & doohickeys, but I’m confused on the hoopla over these cards. Maybe it’s the way the company packaged and marketed them and/or because all the cool kids are doing it. Go figure.

i mean, do kids nowadays even know these kind of stuffs ever exist ? LMAO
i still have some of my NBA stars cards, though =P
BUT they’ve sold more than 100k already ? O_O
Don’t they have this everywhere in Asia? Just that I’ve never seen a commercial for this, I never thought it was profitable enough to warrant a commercial. :/
Aren’t the cards just the album coverpages?? just go get the album.. and like scan the coverpage…
