SNSD Sets a Record

They can’t be stopped! On July 10th, So Neo Shi Dae’s newest song, “Tell Me Your Wish” went to number one on KBS Music Bank, with 17995 points, the best score on the program to date. The group now holds the record for most consecutive times at number one (“Gee”) and best score. The girls continue to receive praise for their sexier, more mature image, and dually-named “hacky sack dance/beautiful legs dance” (go with “beautiful legs”, girls). I hope it doesn’t become a trend- that is not a dance to be done by the uncoordinated or untrained.

How long do you think SNSD will dominate, and can one of the underdogs (2NE1, 4Minute, et al.) rise up as serious competition?

That’s insane! I dunno if anyone can beat them, but I hope it’s 2NE1.

  2. ChoiKM says:

I dont really like them, but I cant deny they’re on a different league than other groups, and so far no girl groups can do better than SNSD.

Where’s Wondergirls when we need them the most…? JYP, please bring the girls back to korea T__T

  3. yepyep says:

SNSD rock! Say what you want about them, but these girls will remain at the top for a long time!

  4. jinani says:

Watching them on stage is like watching a beauty pageant with all the legs >.>
They’re incredibly overrated and the talent of the 4 girls of 2NE1 puts the 9 girls to shame.

  5. stary says:

i know, without big competition from Big Bang,DBSK and such SNSD will continue to dominate. Without Wondergirls, SNSD will continue to be the reigning girl group in town. Although I’m sure 2NE1 will be good competition for them soon enough.

  6. bubbles says:

I wouldn’t call 2NE1 underdogs. If anything SNSD should be shaking in their boots, because I think 2NE1 girls can take them.

Anyways, congrats soshi girls! the song is subpar, the choreography is quite tame, and the stages are boring to watch, but it’s good to see that it doesn’t stop them. That’s when you know u have a dedicate fanbase, they’ll buy into anything.

  7. oniontaker says:

still… can’t beat the hackey sack dance
    =D

  8. yawn says:

more of the same. More proof that mediocrity rules these days.

  9. so says:

    never underestimate ajushi power

  10. so says:

never underestimate the power of a ajushi.

2NE1 underdogs they kicked SNSD out of the no 1 spot on most charts as soon as ‘I Don’t Care’ came out.

  11. luci says:

So happy for SNSD! Love their sexy performances!

  12. kinella says:

these girls are, yes, cute (i really like Taeyeon) and funny (even though i hate hate hate the uniforms concept).

this song is catchy and the choreography will surely start another crazy wave like Gee did, but surely they are not most talented expression of SKorea’s culture and i just cant get over the fact that
that same day they won against Seo Taiji

    i mean…yeah, come on Korea! =\

  13. Mocca says:

I hope snsd kick 2NE1’s ass next week on Music Bank

  14. GDYBTOP says:

Wonder Girls can crush them any day.
They’re having the time of their lives without the biggest groups of kpop – WG BB DBSK
They’re actually behind all those big groups..
They’re still in Korea while others are getting themselves big in other countries [japan, america, thailand]

They’re competitng with rookies HAHA… you’re getting nowhere snsd

  15. hmm says:

@GDYBTOP: I don’t consider Mc Mong or Seo Taiji rookies. Also, it’s always likely for a new song to top a old song on the charts. It happens all the time. I don’t really see any significance in that.

  16. whoopi says:

These girls are hot as hell and they’re on fire!

  17. Nick says:

he haters are in denial again.

  18. orenji says:

I think with the new scoring system as soon as any of the big boy bands make their comeback they will take the score for SNSD. This year is the year for SNSD. That’s for sure. For WG, I am not so optimistic. Although their digital sales is high but their cd sales is low. The only group who can win over this is the group with high CD and digital sales –> BB or DBSK.

  19. poof says:

FACT: even if the wonder girls make a comeback in S korea, they won’t sell much albums and wont even hit the 100k mark just like their other albums.. this is going to be SNSD’s third time hitting the 100k mark!

“snsd is doing so good right now because WG’s are not in korea!” thats the lamest excuse EVER! WG, bring it on! harharhar

  20. Lol says:

Lol, DBSK only got 16k with their song. Hard to believe that these girls actually beat the Dong Bang Boys. Happy for them!

  21. kevcozha says:

What makes SNSD able to be so successfully is the fact that not only their fans but also regular people buy their music.
Fans give you album sales and these regular everyday people give you digital sales.
Also theirs the rumor Jessica might be featured in MC Mong’s (title) track.

  22. Grace says:

    @ orenji
Well, isn’t Super Junior considered a big boy band that had their comeback this year? And actually no. DBSK does not do that well on the digital charts – it’s their ridiculously high album sales that sets them apart from the other groups.

  23. Karen says:

    another name for the dance

    seizure dance

  24. chae-rin says:

second jinani &bubbles above. they are absolutely over-rated and are just made popular and are winning all these awards cause of their fans. nothing else. other artists have better more solid songs but dont win as much cause their fans have btr things to do.
not a 2ne1 fan either, but i want them to beat the shit out of snsd. genie stages are more boring than gee ones.
well the big groups are missing so they would dominate, but thats only temporary.

  25. PasserBy says:

That’s the only things Shoshi fans can do now — vote for them on music programs… Since, apparently, the underdogs kicked them out so easily out of the #1 spot in various music charts… I can’t see why the underdogs are still being called underdogs.

  26. PasserBy says:

@poof: FACT: even if WG’s albums/single/whatnot won’t sell as much as SNSD’s, WG’s would still be more popular… Does that make sense?… Well it should… Cause it’s a fact..

  27. PasserBy says:

@GDYBTOP: SNSD … competing with rookies… XD.. Well, that’s happening right now, so i can’t deny it.

  28. ahoii says:

IMHO, the only group that can beat SNSD in terms of MB score is Big Bang. DBSK..sure they have awesome cd sales..but they’re lacking in digital sales. WG?! pfft..they lack in cd sales. BB is the only group who balances both CD and digital sales…and for now SNSD is also the only girl group who does really well in both.

  29. hmm says:

@PasserBy: it’s always likely for a newer song to replace an old song. it happens all the time and it will happen to 2ne1. it the circle of the music industry.

  30. YTIMG says:

Some of you international fans are nothing but plain ignorant.

Learn some Korean and pay a visit to the Korean sites and you’ll see how there are tons of fan accounts of girls being surprised at the long queues for SNSD’s performance entrance with most of it being filled up by girls themselves. Even the guys who expected more of their own kind to form majority of the queue were surprised AND glad how SNSD is reaching out to fans from both genders.

Everyone disses SNSD because they’re targeting “Ahjusshis” but the hard core facts are most of SNSD’s fansites are run by “Unnie” fans. And at least they don’t go on stage, humping the floor and baring their non-existent breasts like a certain underaged artist. That’s even worst – subliminally attracting pedophiles. It’s plain disgusting.

You call them overrated it’s because every merchandise, broadcasting station is trying to bank on their fame hence that’s why they’re literally everywhere. It’s not their fault. It’s those brands, broadcasting stations fault for being so cheap.

SNSD had the whole world ganging up on them not just verbally but also physically but through it all, they pulled through.

The difference between SM fans and YG fans are doesn’t matter if you’re from SM because each SM group will still be judged individually. SM artists have to earn their own respect from SM fans.

On the other hand, YG fans support every YG artist and it doesn’t even matter if some of them are really lacking in some departments. Blind commitment has blinded YG fans and turn them into fanatics without them realising it.

SM fans are objective. If you can earn their respect, they’ll give you their dedication and that’s where album sales come in.

Look beneath the surface and you’ll see why so many hundreds of fans from all over the world love SNSD. If you don’t even try, then don’t even try judging them.

  31. poof says:

    @ YTIMG, i agree with you 1000%!

  32. ck says:

    @YTIMG: nicely said!

  33. oneflip says:

Congrats to SNSD! I actually think they’ll have some stiff competition next week with 2NE1, but we’ll just have to wait and see! Next week will be VERY interesting!!!

  34. itsme says:

    Gotta agree with YTIMG.

Yes, SNSD was targeted to ‘ahjussi’ but the fact is that their fanbase is pretty balanced gender-wise, if not female dominated. Most of their fansites run by unnie fans,

ROFL at those haters in denial. They won over Seo Taeji, and that’s saying a lot.

The thing about SNSD is, no matter how much the hate they got since even before they debuted, they still managed to stand still and grow stranger as a group.

  35. jess says:

    kay ….
“YG fans support every YG artist and it doesn’t even matter if some of them are really lacking in some departments. ” this is so NOT true … man not ALL YG fans f-king supports ALLL the YG artists

i’m getting so tired of this comment and phrase .. just cause one is a yg fan doesn’t mean he/she will totally LOVE everything yg artists/company does.. you really can’t point fingers and SAY we yg fans are blinded or some sort of crazy fanatics ..

i’m a big bang fan and I don’t even totally LOVE 100% of what big bang does and same goes with 2ne1 .. gosh you’re making it sound like ALLL the yg fans are mindless freaky robots eating up everything that YG spits out at us

at least be fair and think about other fans too before you saying something so irresponsible

  36. miadanica says:

    danngg,
    thats A LOT of points…
hmmm, i wonder what gender is contributing to their success the most eh?
    shucks, -___-
I’m really rooting for 2NE1 to top them now!
    I love 2ne1’s “I Don’t Care”!
Even if they are rookies compared to SNSD, 2ne1 is FRESH and are rising to the top!!

  37. lilacs says:

    @ PasserBy
Wonder Girls still would be more popular? Uh huh and how exactly is that a fact? Please tell me how. If artists are popular, shouldn’t the fans be buying their albums? Idol groups’ popularity can fluctuate at any given moment. This year, the most popular groups are Big Bang and SNSD among the korean public. Last year was Wonder Girls and Big Bang. Big Bang is simply huge in Korea. And don’t try to use the excuse that it’s because Wonder Girls was hardly active in Korea because well, Big Bang wasn’t active as a group this year also.

  38. amy says:

i think 2ne1 can beat them just not when snds are active like if snds leave the stage 2ne1 has a chance , but for now id like to say no

  39. itsme says:

@jess: well yeah, that’s as irresponsible as generalizing SNSD fans into ahjussi fans. I understand that.

@miadanica: I think it’s the female fans who contributed the most. I mean, we all know fangirls are much more loyal and dedicated than fanboys. :]

  40. wow says:

I agree with some YITMG. Some of you international fans are really ignorant. Newsflash: your opinion =/= Korean public.

  41. jess says:

mm… i think to sum it up

there’s always going to be some crazy “delusional” fans that are highly defensive of their own beloved idols while attacking others and then there’s the other type.. the kind of fans that are respectful and supportive with other idols
lol .. but it really saddens me when delusional fans start juding others without knowing anythng at all and f-king generalizing things like how snsd ONLY has ahjussi fans or like SM is a plastic idol factory or like YG ships out hip-hop wannabe artists or shit like that etc.. you can defend your own idol group etc.. that’s cool but when irresponsible comments like those come out.. its when the “hate” begins.. this is the whole reason why fan wars happen in the first place

like if i was some crazy delusional yg fan living in my own yg bubble world i’ll pro fight or argue with YTIMG’s comment till death and swearing at him/her like crazy hahaha.. but i’m not or at least i’m not trying to stir up any beef with anyone .. it’s just i want to remind YTIMG and people not to categorize all the noraml and delusional fans together

and oh btw congrats to snsd for winning .. althought i’m not a soshi fan (ima 2ne1 fan btw if you haven’t notice it by now lol) i think snsd deserve their win cause those girls worked hard for their popularity and they do give consistenet performances every time so yay for them and plus 2009 is the year of girl groups so it f-king sucks for seo taji .. all the respect to you but this year aint the year for you lol

  42. Aveeno says:

^ How does it suck for Seo Taiji? LOL, honestly I don’t think he gives a flying crap about winning or not – it’s Seo Taiji for crying out loud. At the end of the day, he’s still a freaking legend.

  43. Lol says:

^ Well I feel sorry for Outsider.
Probably didn’t perform because he didn’t want to lose to 18 year old girls who have flashy leg movements.

  44. Izzy says:

This song is not good enough. Something shady is going on backstage.

Feh. No wonder SM is in deficit, buying up all their votes and awards.

    I hope 2NE1 owns SNSD.

  45. Pipple says:

    just predict
    2ne1 wins
    Mcountdown within two weeks
    Music Bank within one month
    Inkigayo within three weeks

  46. wow says:

    @ Izzy

SM isn’t in a deficit anymore. They’ve been profitable in 2009. Part of the reason they were so profitable this year was credited to SNSD. So there goes your theory. Please research before you type :D

  47. queenbqty says:

Speaking as an international fan, snsd sucks.

  48. ez says:

    @YTIMG: Well said. ^^

SNSD actually has loads of girl fans. HELLO. :)) Girl fans are the only one crazy enough to line up to watch SNSD. <3 YEY SNSD~ ^^

TVXQ does not do so well on digital sales, they are crazy on album sales. WEE. :]

  49. fejj7 says:

without wonder girls….. snsd is dominating….but i think 2ne1 can match them…the only song of snsd i Luv is GEE…if its wonder girls vs. SNSD i’ll choose WG..if SNSD vs. 2ne1 …hmmm 2ne1…

  50. OhEmGee says:

I love how people here are like “Oh Wonder Girls can crush them” When even when Wonder Girls were in KOREA SNSD album sales destroyed theirs with almost double the amounts.

    So whose crushing who?

Seriously people. Don’t be bias. Stick to facts.
