Playlist of the Month: July
Time for your summer playlist from Seoulbeats!
Personally, I got into Kpop during the summer so I tend to love Kpop more during the summer, even if nothing is really going on — I re-listen to a lot of old music and it reminds me of the wondrous sugar, speed, and crack that Kpop was when everything was new. So this playlist consists mostly of hits from past years that were hits during their day, as well as some of the new music I’ve been listening to. And during the summer, one must listen to music one can bizzounce along to, so enjoy and dance some!

A wee bit of explainin’ on some of the tracks:
– TOP & Taeyang’s 친구: I’ve never been more happy to eat my words. Since making the post on their new song for the “Friend, Our Legend” soundtrack, I’ve become obsessed with the song and the way Taeyang sings. I love TOP too, but for some reason, I’ve grown really wary of the way he’s been rapping lately and I’m just not feeling it. But on the other hand, Taeyang always amazes me with his ability to make me fall in love with a song I originally thought was really mediocre. The lyrics are also pretty amazing and have now convinced me I should watch “Friend.”
– Epik High – 신사들의 몰락 (Good Evening): Think of this as a bit of an intermission song. Fits perfectly, doesn’t it? (Minus the cursing and yelling at the end. ;) )
– Jinusean – 전화번호: This song’s music video is incredibly dated and is probably a really stereotypical of hip-hop/rap (hoes, cars, bling, ‘tude), but look at those guys have fun! And look at G-Dragon’s cameo! (Why is there a GD stamp on everything??) Watch YG Family singing “Junhwa beonho” during the SBS Music Awards:
– Big Bang – 없는 번호: This song never gets any love or mention, but I think next to “Lies” from the “Always” mini-album, this was my fave.
– Se7en – Passion: Hey, remember when Se7en was top of the Kpop charts and wasn’t chatting it up with squirrels during a huge American crossover?
– Hyori – AnyClub: Even though this was done all in commercial fun, this is an undeniably good dance track with a great feature from Teddy (never leave Kpop, Teddy) and even though Hyori may not be the best singer, anything Hyori does is guaranteed to have a certain oomph to it.
