It’s one of those nights, where I have chosen pleasure over sleep. I haven’t done this in awhile because of my busy schedule but mainly because I didn’t want to get to sucked into the powers of Youtube & Korean variety shows. Tonight, however, I have succumbed under its evil power and have watched almost all the episodes of Mnet “Hot Blood” featuring JYP trainees, before their debut.
Now before I get started, I’ll say this, I know men all over the world go to boot-camp for military reasons and I know many have trained harder than the boys I will mention soon, but being that these individuals gave up their ordinary lives to be singers in Korea, not military dudes, flies on a whole different level.
For those of you not familiar with the show, I’ll give you a quick synopsis. JYP began to see that the passion his trainees once had in the early days was dwindling away so in order to replace this newfound laziness with insane passion, he sends them to JYP bootcamp, aka, training hell. The twist? At the end of the show, viewers will choose 3 people who they believed to be the weakest links to be eliminated.
Long story short, the boys of 2AM, 2PM, and three other trainees were forced to their physical and emotional limits during the boot camp session. Tears were shed, blood was splattered, and vomiting became a regular routine.
The following clip touched me the most because of the bond these boys shared during the experience.
Moral of this post: I have madd love for 2PM & 2AM for going through with it all. When you’re that passionate about something, nothing should keep you from reaching the goal ladies & gents!
I Luv them too <3
im not dissing 2pm/2am because i think they are really nice boys and have worked their way up and i really like taec heh, but go figure, isnt the kpop industry like this all along? its a real tough ride up there for ALL. or almost all.
no sleep, gruelling schedules, people collapsing from exhaustion and what not. wish it wasnt that tough on them.
give some cred to the other artistes in kpop too.
i have to agree with jeni. i love 2pm/2am, but I think this article sensationalizes things a bit too much. All artists go through harsh training and all artists have gone through all of the hard work and sweat to get where they are. they signed into the entertainment industry knowing that. it’s a bit bias to pin it on just those two groups, really.
ellie, i so did the same thing just a few days ago instead of studying for my mcat. >.> you can’t just watch one episode! and seeing the one day boys was a really good and welcomed mini, and i use that term loosely, break from studying.
i don’t know about any other groups that went through the crazy training these guys went through. you have to remember that they did the same training as other groups plus this crazy army boot camp training stuff.
@Joanna: SM held a show like that a couple of years ago. Only it was a contest between Kangta and Moon Hee Jun to see who trained the best group. There were many trainees there, including wellknown artists like Junsu, Eunhyuk, and Donghae. It wasn’t exactly the same as JYP’s show, but it’s pretty damn similar. Just because you don’t hear about doesn’t mean that it doesn’t happen.
Kor entertainment industry is like that for most of groups out there. Difference here is that 2am/2pm have a record and you can see that record, while to other groups, you can only know via their stories on variety shows. Kor entertainment industry is known as ’slave industry’ for a reason, right?
I respect 2am/2pm for their hardwork, just like other respectful groups out there. It sure is a tear-jerking episode, but until 2am/2pm prove their groups’ positions in kpop history, I’ll hold back and wait for my ‘completely respect’. It’s too early for me to give fair comment now.
One day is the shit! the 2pm boys were the underdog in 2008, always being constantly overshadow by Shinee. But 2009 is their time to shine. i love them. and honestly watching that video made me respect JoKown so much. he may act all flamboyant and flashy and even appear girly but come on, you must be mentally and physically strong to endure all that. JoKown is a man!
Wow there’s a person with the same name as me, Jeni. And whoa, these guys sure have endured a lot.
I guess ellie already aware,,
“and I know many have trained harder than the boys I will mention soon”
darn, korea is toughh. my respect to all kpop entertainer
i RESPECT Jo Kwon and Sunye out of all JYP’s trainees.
and i agree, ALL of other Kpop idols are in the same stage at some point.
have you guys (zero, jeni,uh) watched the entire shows?
i mean i am dbsk’s fan but they NEVER EVER mentioned that they went on boot camp or army-like training like what thess boys have gone thru..
all i know is that they have a loooong hours of training on singing, dancing, modelling and acting…
plus, their stories on how they dont have money to buy foods during their training days….
but boot camp?i dont know i never heard that from the dong bang boys….
so i think this article not ’sensationalizes things a bit too much’coz
the training is really harsh…i don think sm give such training to their artist…
c’mon look at shinee…
I have to agree with really?. I am a dbsk fan and all and I have actually seen some of that Moon Hee Jun / Kangta show but they didn’t have to endure the kind of training that the hot blood guys did. Most idols especially from SM do experience poverty while training and go through intense dancing, singing, and acting training but they do not have to go through this army stuff. I mean just look at some of these groups when they debuted, the perfect example is Shinee, just looking at their bodies being super thin they couldn’t endure this intensity, and DBSK when they first debuted Jaejoong had a nice body but the rest of them were scrawny so I highly doubt they were put through this kind of work.
Ellie, every1 i think we are all missing the MOST important point: Did you SEE Jaebeom’s hair at 0:41 OMGGGG!! lol so messy/cute!! gaaaah LOVE IT!
In response to the whole training thing…EVERY korean singer/group goes thru grueling training…Who is to say one singer/group trained harder than the other! Whether its a group we respect (2pm) or a group we {in part or as whole} don’t respect (Super Junior/SNSD etc)…they ALL went thru a training that I personally could NOT endure. So we should respect ALL of those artists for their hard training…
As to whether their talent/success is a result of said training…i tend to think that natural talent/stage presence has more to do with their success, and also if their target fanbase has strong numbers, not so much on how HARD they trained!
Thas jus my 2cents
they did go through a lot… i respect them for all the hard work… it’s paying off… let’s give 2AM little more love, shall we?
all artists go to hard training (especialy idols), but Oneday went through all the training & boot camp… so I see where she is coming from… You guys should watch the show, you will be impressed and understand what she is talking about. It’s subbed on youtube so go for it.
I had the same reaction when i watch it. I wish them all well and a very long and happy career.
I love these boys since I’ve seen this show b4 their debut. It’s a reality show. Nichkhun used to say that they didn’t even know that they had to go on boot camp or army-like training. They thought that they were go camping and having fun on the island. They knew the truth when the soldiers came to their room at the first night after they did the funny shows. They had been trained for a week but they cut it out likes 2 days training. So, all of them said that it was terrible than we saw on TV. They’ve got a lot of experience from the show. I think this is the reason why 2AM & 2PM are so strong and close each other. …. Love them all….^^
*Sorry for my bad english..
Well yeah, the entertainment industry in Korea is hella competitive and tough so all K pop idols do go through all this like Big Bang and their Survival game too.
WORD….being the stupid fan girl that i am, i cried with them…T.T; they are really hard working and deserve even more fame than they have now…just watch how much they love each other…there’s also this other seen where they have to choose one member who can’t eat..and they decided if that’s they way, then they all wont eat! <3 gosh love them all
100% agreed with really? major dbsk fan over here, but I don’t think many people went through what 2ONEDAY went through, having snowballs put in your pants while exercising? Carrying heavy boats across the beach on your feet and knees? The only relaxing thing I remember from this show is when they had the cutie yoga teacher show them a move or two but they were sweating their bums off then as well. I’ll admit, for awhile I only listened to dbsk because they are talented, but just like Ellie, after watching this show 2PM and 2AM were definately climbing my favourite list, Idol Army was the cherry on top.
didn’t dbsk & super junior mention about how they should do splits in their trainee days ? i think it’s even harsher than this boot-camp thingy LOL K, just kidding =)
well, just because other companies don’t actually have a reality show about their training days doesn’t mean they’re not equally hardworking. i remember some members of groups like dbsk, suju, snsd, big bang, etc have even worse experiences than 2pm&2am in their pre-debut days =(
JYP did the right thing when he noticed they were starting to get lazy, I love ONE DAY.
to …: I don’t think any of the comments are saying that DBSK, SUJU, big bang, etc. didn’t work hard or have bad experiences because they obviously did. I mean being in the industry, it is NOT easy being an entertainer. We all know Jaejoong’s stories of going through poverty, Yoochun’s stories of having to leave behind his mom and younger brother, and of course Dae Sung’s stories of how his dad strongly disapproved of his career so of course we know they are hard working sacrificing idols. I think what everyone is just trying to say is that ONEDAY had to go through harsh boot camp like training that other bands did not have to go through. I totally respect one day because they were challenged not only physically but mentally and I hope they become just as big as the top dogs in the Kpop industry.
I especially respect Jaebeom. I mean did you see how effin scrawny he was back in the days?! Sheesh and look at his body now. He must’ve worked so damn hard.
Why must everything, and everyone always get compared….”they did this, they did that, but they did this?” Who the hell cares?!?! Why can’t HOTBLOOD BOYS just be seen for what it is? A SINGULAR experience that these specific boys had, on the road to becoming what they’ve become, and for a few, what they didn’t become.
Ellie, clearly stated, “Now before I get started, I’ll say this, I know men all over the world go to boot-camp for military reasons and I know many have trained harder than the boys I will mention soon….” which means, she understands perfectly that ONE DAY and JYP, didn’t invent training, and working hard, they just took it to another level, for themselves.
It’s amazing….you really don’t see the KPOP Idols themselves, comparing themselves to one another. They perform together, appear on variety/game shows together, guest on each others radio programs…. that’s why it’s so easy for me to be fans of, 2PM, 2AM, Big Bang, SUJU, DBSK, SHINWA etc etc etc…i don’t waste time comparing them, just enjoying them.
I’m still fairly new to Kpop & the Korean entertianment industry so it’s still hard for me to grasp onto the whole “trainee” concept, but after seeing a few eps. of “Hot Blood” myself, I was very shocked to see how dedicated & passionate these idols are to becoming the wamazing singers & dancers that they are today !
im not dissing 2pm for their hard work. i dont think any one is.
but, @whoever who mentioned SHINee. skinny is skinny, idk about boot camp or what, but if you’re trying to say they don’t work hard, thats is a hell of a joke. the way these guys train on a continual long-term basis up till now.. if anything, they don’t need to be put on a training like this to get them ‘passionate’ again – they are already so damn disciplined already.
fyi even during their break period before their comeback, there were fansightings (ok, stalking lol) that the boys went to practice room in the early morning around sundawn, and others reported that they only emerged in the wee hours of the next morning. and this was apparently the kind of schedules they keep. if this is not passion and discipline, i dont know what this is.
my point is that you dont necessarily need to have a boot camp or two to ‘validate’ that the artiste is passionate about what he does or disciplined etc.
Biased.
ellie can you tell me where to find the complete show (and possibly if there are sites to download it from)? youtube has 8 episodes… i think.
2PM & 2PM SARANGHAEE (Jaebeom & chokwon ) ^^
