First half of 2009 in k-pop: the Bad
Follow-up to the Good post, here is the Bad. Just in case, if you haven’t noticed (if you haven’t… where have you been?), this three part special is a reference to an awesome Korean movie called The Good, the Bad, the Weird. If you haven’t seen it, well, you should.
So in this post, I’ll be talking about what I thought (and again, note the first person tense) was particularly bad in the last 6 months. And bad = anything cringe-worthy.
G-Dragon’s Hair
You knew it was going to come up! Do I need to say more? G-Dragon’s hair this year has gone through a lot of mishaps. I know making a fashion statement is very, very important but when it’s making you look like a 30-something year old ahjumma that just got out of a catfight at the market over some limited sale event of bok choys (yum.)… well, it’s not a very good idea.
Joo Ji Hoon and the drug scandal
Just when I began to actually like him a bit… he gets himself caught up in a drug scandal! He publically embarrassed himself, and his career is ruined. And the saddest thing is that this happened when his career was going great – with two movies released in less than a year and a new role in a musical…. This was very unfortunate.
Seungri in Lollipop MV
One thing I don’t enjoy is when one small thing (or someone) ruins a perfectly good song or a music video. If you didn’t see this, go back and watch the music video again. And this time, focus on Seungri. I know when I was watching it, it wasn’t G-Dragon’s silly pink jumpsuit that was making me laugh – it was Seungri and his cape. And the desperate attempt at ‘cute’ with toe lollipop which just ended up looking really creepy…
Kibum in It’s You MV (You know you’ve just wasted your money on acting school when….)
There was simply too much Kibum in this MV. He didn’t even have a part in the song, for god’s sake. And that face? What kind of emotion is he trying to convey?
Lee Minho EVERYWHERE.
At first, it was “oh look Lee Minho. That’s so prection!” but after 9823 fan meetings, 192819 photo shoots, 189218093408 advertisements, and 1 painful music video to get through, it was “oh Shisus, why????WHY?!?!?!” Since the whole Boys Over Flowers trend, we were bombarded with Lee Minho. And too much is too much. I don’t find him that hot anyways.
Shinee’s fashion fail
To tell you the truth, most of them looked pretty good. Taemin without that mushroom cut, is looking mighty fine. Jonghyun’s haircut wasn’t really working for his face, but he still looked okay. But of course, SM thought it was not enough.They had to do something. Like putting fake hair on their shirts. And tie-dye. Pastel-colored… leggings. And since they were so busy giving all the original songs to Super Junior and SNSD, they had to give Shinee some rip-off of American song. Why, SM, why? Why can’t you dress them up in normal clothes (a simple wifebeater can do wonders) and give them some original songs?
Yoochun PMSing
We all know fans can be batshit crazy and annoying, but Yoochun grabbing the camera out of her hand and being all ~drama queen~ was not cool. Not cool at all.
Sohee wanna put a ring on it.
Yes, Sohee hate is old, I know. But… what can I say, the girl’s got so much to criticize. It’s just like, JYP needs to embarrass Sohee! He just simply needs her to do all these things that will just make her look bad! Kinda like how SM needs to do something to Shinee? Or with DBSK during the earlier days? Anyway, the point is, you should not sing Beyonce’s Single Ladies in front of thousands of people if you can’t sing. And it wasn’t even live – it was pre-recorded. And it still sounded bad.
I never noticed SeungRi’s cape, what disturbed me were GD’s HATS. Now that was really a turn off.

Min Ho is just everywhere
Yoochun (I love this boys to my bone) should know better than snatch a camera. Not nice at all (still love him madly though).
Julliete overshadowed all the track on SHInee mini album. It was a good mini album, but the remake controversy make international kpopper overlook the mini. And big no no to the clothes.
So Hee should go back into school and wait till she’s legal and somebody should tell her that Beyonce is way out of her league.
WHile you’re in GD hair, I though you will post YC hair too. But I think YC hair experiment looks nothing compare to GD.
No comment on Kibum. The whole elf community decided to act like there’s no problem with him missing the scenes. No discussion are allowed on this matter, it’s ridiculous.

seungri was cute so whatever. you just dont get the cuteness that seungy. there is nothing wrong with the lolipop vid so blah…and sohee can do no wrong. she is an angel sent from korean heaven so just be happy that you are lucky enough to bask in her glory peon
although i like sohee, this is the 1st time i have seen that video, i’d have to agree with you.
