Why is SNSD so randy!?

snsd_june19_seoulbeats1

I know all women are entitled to have their own “sexual urges”, but GOOD LORD Mr. SM there are children present! SNSD has been couped up without men for the past two years; and now they want it bad.

Okay I’m sure the childish whining will get any and all ajusshis distracted from their corporate positions long enough to buy at least 5 copies of SNSD’s mini album. And knowing the influence of Mr. SM, nothing they release will be banned despite the obvious sexual content.

WTH! First you want to “party” with 40 year olds in your bedroom and now you’re calling for boys to “give it to you”. Don’t pretend that isn’t what you were thinking when you hear the first lines of “Boyfriend“.

It’s  hilarious how some fans are calling this “refreshing” rather than “sexy”. Come on, girls jumping around in mini shorts begging for old men/ men in general to “tell them their fantasies” and “give it to them” is downright (fill in the blank). I guess SM has made a decision to ignore all of SNSD’s female fans and go straight for the uhmmm….. “juggular”, of their testosterone driven majority. Which in actuality, he has been doing since the group debuted in mini skirts.

To be honest, the blatant sexual nature of these songs wouldn’t bother me if the group didn’t claim to be all about “female empowerment”. Their name is Girls‘ Generation; little girls don’t need to be shown the right way to get the wrong kind of attention from the male species and then play pure and innocent.

SNSD recently released a new track entitled “Boyfriend“.

@omgwow lol, asianromance made a valid point and you say some random crap about wanting her to excercise more? Sexiness and beauty? Where? All I see is a bunch of girls slaving away to that sick ajusshi LSM by getting plastic surgery and putting on fake cutesy acts.

People like you are soft on SNSD because you are sick perverts or you like the idea of dependant girls who live off 40 yr old men.

  2. Mina_K says:

    @yani
true that, fans try to divert the attention away from SNSD by pointing fingers elsewhere, like other girlbands or in some cases, accusing the author of being physically unappealing. Still doesn’t change the fact that the lyrics were kinda urgh~ Certainly wouldn’t want my generation being represented by them.

I wonder if OMGWOW is a girl or a guy. If a guy, then go figures. If a girl then SHAME ON YOU FOR SIDING WITH ANTIFEMINISM. Using looks and weight to attack a girl is as low as you can go, the way they look doesn’t make their statements any less true.

  3. isha says:

The difference between guy and girl groups is that we currently live in a MALE DOMINATED society. boybands can act as gay/ fruity tutty as they want but in the end, the males still get the final say. Girl groups have a lot of influence on young girls, the cutesy acts are not helping to promote the independent women, especially in Korea, where guys like their girls extra aeygo cause it makes them feel more manly. I’m not targetting SNSD but a good number of kpop girl groups at the moment.

Girls are disadvantaged enough as it is, nothing better than girl groups these days acting all helpless and innocent in front of the ajusshi and making it like it’s okay to be this way in society.

  4. omgwow says:

@ daena, what i dont get is that they are targetting SNSD only.

if you think that is worse, well i think a 14 (15?) year old girl doing a split and humping the floor after is worst, and yet all i see is an article about SNSD being a slut? and fyi im not 40, im 19. =]

  5. wacaow says:

Actually the writers know what they wrote. Why else would they use those words?

A lot of Koreans learn english at an early age most do know what it means. but i can’t speak for every single korean there.

  6. TiredTiredTired says:

    Ehhhh,

I do recall SNSD saying that they aren’t just some fragile helpless bunch of girls etc. I think it’s about time they started aiming their musical topics elsewhere. Gee was a song basically about a school girl like crush, obviously that school girl grew up and is now addressing more mature topics. Though the opening line does bring some… suggestive ideas when heard, it’s less disturbing than American music since you can hear promiscuity and sexual innuendo more up front and obvious on American radios. Plus the girls are 18 or older now, of course their music isn’t going to be PG rated anymore.

  7. whatever says:

seriously a lot of the fans here don’t really get the whole article do they? people who are commenting about this issue only wants to point out the fact that girl’s generation is supposedly a group that represents the girls of today. and to boot they carry with them a pseudo-innocent cutesy image. whereas they are suppose to be girl’s generation aiming at the younger generations, their songs, style, and attitude seems to be aiming at the older male age groups. what about the girls of this generation they are suppose to be role models for? should girls be wearing short mini skirts prancing around with lollipops and teddy bears? not that those things are bad things, but when you pair it with the way they carry themselves then there’s not much to one’s imagination what goes on behind closed doors…. and then you add the fact that more then a few of their songs has had a history of being more the suggestive to the male testosterone.. and someone said that the population is not dominated by testosterone are wrong to the core. cause if you really look at the world as a whole, no matter what industry they work in celebrities know that sex sells. that’s why so many of them aim at a sexy image. and i’m sorry to say but how many guys could honestly say that they listen to that song and not think of it in the more sensual ways? be honest with yourself and don’t just say things because your a fan.

  8. misstoonice says:

Oh just shut up! this is her article, she has every right to write whatever she wants and if y’all don’t like it the GET THE F*** OUT.

  9. Mee says:

@ Angel : Truthfully, Asian audiences do not see anything dirty in Tell Me Your Wish. To them it is actually a song about being a good luck charm. SNSD is not saying their going to grant your every desire in their song. They’re saying that whatever you want in life they’ll be there to support you and help you acheive your goal.

    Me : *rolls eyes*

  10. Mimi says:

    I’m truly and definitely a loyal SNSD’s fan…
But truthfully, when i first heard of their songs in this Genie album…
I felt quite bad and dissappointed…both for their target-to-ajusshi(men age 30-40) and rushing work.
The songs aren’t good as they should be… and the lyrics??? well…ANYBODY can notice…
I’m a girl their age…and I really can’t understand why they let themselves doing such this kind of thing.
They are lowering themselves by selling their sexiness and their ability to fulfill the sexual needs for men by their innocently sexy looks.
Well, many singers succeeded becuz of this kind of style…but i don’t want MY SNSD to be like those.
But i guess there’s nothing i can do now cuz they’ve labeled themselves like that already… Juz hope for the best from now on…

  11. theresa says:

    lmfao, ANTIS.

  12. Monicaa says:

I know someone else pointed this out first, but I would just like to say that my main problem with the new SNSD stuff is not that it’s sort of suggestive. Whatever, I don’t mind suggestive if you’re of age or if you’re capable of doing it tastefully. It’s the stupid flight attendant uniforms. Might just be my westernized, hyper-sexualized view, but those just have this certain connotation, with the short shorts and all… As someone brought up earlier, they’re awfully reminiscent of those trashy Halloween “costumes”. Obviously they may not have that connotation in Korea, but I think to any Westerner, that’s the first image that pops into your head, and that’s why everything they’re doing now just seems to give off this cheap, trashy/slutty vibe, making us more likely to over-interpret stupid Engrish lyrics and pillow fights and such.

@gurl: agreed about SHINee… I found that whole “noona” thing awfully creepy…

  13. 123grr says:

I don’t see anything wrong with this song. tbh, I even find it catchy and nice. I’m not a fan of snsd but music-wise i find their style ok. sure, i found some of their songs cringe-worthy, but if i didn’t like it i don’t waste my time whining about it.

anyway, speaking of double meanings, i;m sorry but i can;t help but think that the genie was a little um…disturbing. or i guess it’s just me. i mena come on, bed + girls + wish. it’s a bad equation.

  14. skip says:

I laughed my ass off when i heard the intro to the song. Who ever thinks that this song is not aimed at giving guys a hard on his sadly mistaken. Chloe your right, SNSD tries WAY to hard to be sexy. so hard that its kinda sad. 2ne1 on the other hand (mostly minzi) make sexy look easy. And no i’m not trying to compare its just a fact. Some girl groups can’t pull off sexy no matter how hard they try. Even WG can pull off sexy without looking like they’re selling themselves. I swear father SM is the biggest pimp ever.

  15. oreos says:

I completely agree. There’s sexy for female empowerment (like Wondergirls, which is why girls don’t mind them so much), and then there’s just plain trashy and CHEAP. They’re acting like teases for the guys.

It’s kindav disgusting for the rest of the female audience to see ourselves so degraded. What kind of message are they giving? That in order to have a boyfriend, or any guy, you need to put out????? Way to be a great influence on younger girls, SNSD. Way to go.

  16. oreos says:

Uh, there’s a difference between the SHINee Noona MV and SNSD’s tell me your wish. BIG DIFFERENCE, so don’t even start comparing the two.

  17. oreos says:

And why is every SNSD scandal self-induced? Unlike other girl groups? -.-

  18. isananti says:

they have always been vulgar, slutty, cheap and trashy from the very beginning. only now have ppl been seeing it.

    HEH.

so much for a girls’ generation. hoes’ maybe.

  19. So says:

@oreos I want to know that something.

  20. So says:

@oreos I want to know that something.

  21. yili says:

people say they don’t like the image of grown up girls holding lollipops..
    how about dbsk’s balloon mv?
    suju’s cooking?
i think sm likes to make their artist acting like eager-to-please kids.. his strategy works, doesn’t it.

  22. jungeun says:

    u guys are just jealous

  23. ayooo says:

Okay, this htread fails a mod should really read this.
All you people who are saying that SNSD is targetting 30-40 men are just being hypercritical, and closed minded right now. No offense to you guys, but don’t act like you’re not being that way and i agree with mmmmmdonuts.
Just because the beginning of the song may say something that may makes others feel uncomfortable, doesn’t have to be wghat you think, I’m sure that msot of the poeple here are saying that they’re trying to get into sexual thought and pleasures. How do you know if they’re not talking bout want an unconditional love in general that I’m sure a lot of us would love and would want to find one day in this journey called “Life”.
Also to add to that, it’s funny how SNSD is the one that is MOST LIKELY the ones being targeted. They are other groups out there, especially girl groups which has so much going one but I’m sure it’s not a big deal if they were to do this…
Stop being ignorant, closed minded, and maybe get some of your facts straight before makign these stupid things.

  24. Fox says:

    Those girls.
I can’t stand them or any girlgroup so I don’t watch them but I wonder, why so much animosity to them?

  25. anya says:

    @isha

I get where you’re coming from. I don’t hate SNSD, or anygirl group for that matter but I do hate the slimey men who packaged and created them. I guess lots of people target SNSD because they’re called “GIRL’S GENERATION” and personally, I would not like them to reperesent me or what I stand for. And no, I’m not jealous. I like the way I am and wouldn’t trade lives with any of them thank you very much.
To be honest, haters out there should just leave them alone. INDIFFERENCE is much more powerful than HATE, and all this negativity is just drawing more attention on them = more publicity.

  26. tia says:

^actually from the comments, there weren’t that many haters, most of them were just expressing disapproval towards girlbands and that they represent and how they are not helping with the contributing of antifeminism…

as for the dominate male fans, well, it’s not made up, it’s a stat.

“More males tend to view the album of ‘Tell me your wish’ than females. This indicates that SNSD has formidable force on the male fans. Although ‘Tell me your wish’ is loved by various male age groups between 10~50, it seems that the loyalty of ‘uncle fans’ between the age of 20~40 has had a serious impact. This shows a paradigm shift from 10~20 year old females, who used to control the entertainment business, to 20~40 males, who now have become formidable consumers as well.”

… oh God, and just when I thought “Genie” was bad enough…

I have no problem w/SNSD. I don’t mind them, ignore them for the most part, and actually like some of their voices and personalities (Sunny <3). BUT, this seriously pushes it. “Genie’s” lyrics were bad enough… this is worse. I have no doubt that the songwriters knew EXACTLY what they were writing; afterall, LSM does have a target audience and thus will most likely see to it that the lyrics will “sell” the girls to that age group, namely the 30-40 yr. old group. And hearing lyrics like “I’ll grant your wish”… it’s demeaning to me, as a female. Feminists in the past have fought so hard for recognition, a still ongoing fight. How can we possibly even allow a group that dares call itself “Girl’s Generation” represent US females when their song is basically only adding to the image of the subservient female who wishes only to please men? It’s disgusting, and demeaning. News flash; sexy DOES NOT mean selling out. There are plenty of ways to be sexy; Beyonce’s sexy, but I don’t hear her singing about granting the wishes of a guy. Bottomline; for a group that supposedly represents our generation of women, this is ridiculous. I don’t care if they’re trying to move past the cute stage to a sexy stage; I actually encourage that. But I do care when the lyrics are so demeaning to women in general.

  28. ez says:

As a fan, I disliked 4 out of the 6 songs from the album. I mean, Genie is great, and the OnSica duet was great too. _<

  29. alexander says:

damm wat kind of shit post is this… LOL.. DAMMM….!!!

  30. Jani says:

Wow you guys are really looking to much into SNSD’s new songs man. Demeaning to females? Why dont you guys blame the guys for thinking in such a way and instead bash the girls? I doubt in the past decades anyone would think of “give it to me” as a sexual innuendo. It is the males in our modern society that is corrupted, so why don’t you guys go on a strike or something since you are so bored, and not waste time flaming SNSD.

Most female groups and solo singers appeal to the sexual desires of the male population anyway, be it through provocative dances or suggestive lyrics, so why pick on SNSD?

  31. XD says:

    Agree with the whole post

  32. lamy says:

Sorry to say but all this controvorsy is worthless because all the girls band try to sell them selves either by being cute targetting the ajushies or horny targetting the 20 and 30 males so i’ve never liked SNSD despites the fact i enjoy their songs in karaoke just for fun nothing more they are nothing to do with woman empowerment they are just products in the hands of their company who can do what ever to earn money so i don’t care but if i was in korea i would have been really afraid for my children who consider them as idols, i don’t want my girl to be that kind of woman but a woman with a brain!

  33. whateveritis says:

^^^ thats exactly it. when the group first came out, the company wanted them to be a group that showcases the women’s empowerment of today. but up to today, how can anyone say that they do anything that enforces or influences women empowerment? or for that matter how could girls of today want to follow in their footstep? they are selling themselves short of what they should do to prove to the general public of their image of role models for the girls of this generation. but how many girls should prance around dressing like they being in a hentai anime while trying to act cute? their dresses hardly covers their ass 90% of the time. yes sex sells but being cheap and putting yourself out there to attract that negative attention is what’s gotten people talking. the reason why more girls voice their dissatisfaction is because the female population is what they are suppose to represent and yet they are aiming at the male public. besides their first 2 songs, or was it only one? the rest was all aiming at the male public. i would seriously like to hear some songs about girl empowerment and such since they do represent the females…. males have no complaints generally because they like what the girls are putting out there. they reason why other female groups are not receiving such negative attention is because they dont go around calling themselves girls generation and they are straight out about how they want to be seen in the public eye. these girls try to act cute but wants to be seen as sexy. they send out mixed signals and are confused of how they want people to see them as

  34. HL says:

yeah, honestly i was pretty suprised when i first heard this song too. it seems like they are slowly trying to break out of the “cute, innocent, pure” young girl look, trying to transition into the sexy image. i do think those lyrics are inappropriate, but of course they are going to get away with it cause they’re SNSD, i bet if it was any other group, it would’ve been banned. altho, of course they can’t sell the cutesy image forever, it’s ironic because that’s the idea behind the whole group being “young girls”. but what can you say sex sells and they’re definitely selling it, esp to all the young hormone crazed teenage boys and ahjuhsshis and basically all young men. i wish they wouldn’t wear such booty shorts, there’s a fine line between sexy and almost slutty, they’re almost crossing that line, it’s like they’re trying too hard to be sexy too soon

  35. Jani says:

Haha I cant believe Dinerya would rip off SNSD so obviously, at least change the tune or something..

  36. OhEmGee says:

First off, I would like to say that people are acting like Girls Generation is the only group in history that is using their image to please their target market. There have been honestly, COUNTLESS groups that have done this and are still succeeding due to this.
    A few examples below:

NEWS FLASH: Every time Heechul kisses one of the guys in Super Junior on stage, he’s pleasing his female fans its called FANSERVICE.

NEWS FLASH: Every time Yunho randomly takes his shirt off during a concert, or just steps on stage without one, its called FAN SERVICE.

Now the instant that Girls Generation starts acting a little sexy and are maybe shaking their stuff a little more, girls automatically GO OMG SUCH WHORES, well deal with it again its called FAN SERVICE.

NEWS FLASH: The “cute” “pure” image also doesn’t exactly benefit girls either. All it reemphasizes is that girls are nothing but subservient submissive tools for their men, all THAT teaches little girls is that they should grow up to be dolls for their men. OMG A 21 YEAR OLD GIRL IN A PINK TUTU omgosh SO CUTE sound like someone? Park Gyuri of KARA.

For fucks sake these girls are like 21 now. What the hell is so wrong for them to act sexier? Or do you want to see them waving around lollipops and dancing to Kissing You and talking about first kisses when they are 25 too? Oh my goodness. What do 20 somethings do? They party, they can drink if they choose to, they flirt with boys, they can experiment with sex, that’s what NORMAL 20 somethings DO!

  37. jo. says:

its not like they chose the songs.
& even if they did its not as bad as songs here in the U.S.
at least they show off half their skin like miley cyrus

  38. EnigmaKid says:

hmm there’s just no pleasing everyone in the world. first I see a topic here in seoulbeats about the cute image phasing out and how people are happy about it and then now someone complains about being too sexy that it’s considered horny? ok maybe the song “Boyfriend” says those lines but really, are they not allowed to do that? I mean North American songs are mostly about sexual things so it’s pretty normal honestly.

I agree though that they should change their songs to more women empowering songs but I am not complaining about the songs they have. then again I’m a fan so there’s a bias.

  39. lol says:

yeah i agree with the fanservice. snsd is completely a commercial group that relies on their image and songs to attract audiences. their songs are not about quality even if they might have some talents. its to match their image. well its still entertainment but its hard for some to classify them as artists thats why there are antis.(antis has other reasons as well. i know)

  40. Epic Faaaail says:

Loool. I laughed hard at this topic.
I mean, this is NOTHING, compared to Black Eyed Peas and United States.
Aren’t mostly ALL of girl groups’ songs aimed for men? (Wonder Girls & etc.)
SNSD is not an exception either. Their goal is to be famous singers/dancers/celebs so let it go, retard.
Don’t like the song? don’t listen to it.
Why getting all worked up about a song?
Well… unless one of the ajushi you were talking about is your dad…. (no doubts).

  41. WOWZERS says:

okays well ALLL you fans can say shit like
    Jealous
    and hahah you antis
and This is just anti gossip
But if you look at it a neutral way
Then you need to have some reason
SNSD has some recycled dance moves
xDDD and they just LOVE to wear those panty flashing skirts
    And Sexy???
    Noooo, more like desperate???
SNSD has alot of ANTIS too
Mr. LSM has got to stop promoting them
    remember, Dream Concert
    SMTown Live
    Shanghai??
those were awful because of SNSD
LSM has got to think of other artist
What ever happened to Jang Ri-in
    She has an amazing voice
    and BoA??
and Lee Soo-man dropped off The Grace, CJSH in Japan until 2010 or further notice
He should be promoting those with real talent

  42. imsone says:

Antis always overacted..honestly when i heard genie and bf,i nvr think it that way..its just bout your mind and i bet something wrong with your mind guys..!!

  43. SNSD.is.SEXY says:

what the #@#$@ is this article? SO WHAT! they are SEXY and they WANT IT bad from a guy? SO WHAT! it’s to sell records, CDs, digital downloads! with GUYS wanking off, that’s what the GIRLS are catering to – so that people will BUY their MUSIC. at least it’s NOT PORNO!

  44. SNSDLOVER says:

i love snsd so effing much
but i dun really like their song- gee
i mean this song has nothing to do with vocal
they just hv to wear short skirt, act cute
and thats it—-the formation of gee
    their target – ajusshi ( i bet i spelled them wrong )

i hope their upcoming song will be better

  45. interesting says:

i love how korean gossip sites sensationalize everything. it’s hilarious. everything is considered a scandal.

  46. bluewaterfaerie28 says:

ok here’s the thing … i , by far remember the people who dislike/hate SNSD saying : “They should drop the cutesy act and blah blah blah !” now that they did you people are still complaining !!! what do you really want ?! the “Cute and Innocent” image they used to have ? or their image now ?! make up you freaking minds ! you people are so picky !

  47. Lacusfan5 says:

… oh God omgwow, you are… let me put this to you straight. If I was jealous of SNSD’s beauty and sexiness, I would hate BoA, Hyori, Beyonce, Christina Aguilera… bunch of incredibly powerful yet sexy artists. I don’t dislike “Genie” because of SNSD’s beauty *rolls eyes* God, will you quit it w/your need to incessantly yell at every single person who dares hold a different opinion that goes against yours? Grow up; some of just don’t like the lyrics. It’s our opinion and will you quit yelling at us for holding that opinion? See us telling you what to think? Nope, so please, don’t do that to us.

  48. bluewaterfaerie28 says:

    @ Lacusfan5 :

clean your dirty minds then ! -____- horny ?! that’s too far . maybe you antis are the one’s who are horny for thinking or assuming that’s what they meant by the line “give it to me” ever thought of them meaning they want the guy to give them his love ?! you people can hold different opinions . we don’t expect you to love them neither are we forcing you to do so . but creating such ridiculous scandals about every little thing just coz you hate them ? that we won’t stand against ! again i respect your opinions … but this topic is ABSURD ! you people need to grow up too ! :) you are actually telling us what you think . if not then what do you call all this fuzz ?! -__- i still say you people are fickle-minded hypocrites and nothing will change that . sorry :)
