For all the people that keep saying
“big bang is not at DBSK level”. I completely disagree.
I don’t believe that talent should be measured in the amount of time
that a group has been out on the market. So what if DBSK debuted first?
Groups can be promoting themselves forever and still not break out into a market. If Big Bang has what it takes (and i believe they do)
then they will do just fine in Japan.

I love BB and DBSK, I see no point in arguing about these sort of stuff. If you really love them, just support them, listen and enjoy their music!

@mintt: SS501 got into the top 5 of the Oricon charts faster than DBSK did as well (To answer your question, SS501’s very first single broke into the weekly top 10 and I think it only took them 3 singles to break into the Oricon top 5 weekly, whilst DBSK took a whole year to get their first top 10 and top 5. xD I still remember when DBSK’s Sky made #6 weekly and fandom started throwing confetti).

I feel it’s all about market penetration. BoA opened up the way for Korean artists to cross over and we saw Rain & se7en making sem-successful crossovers. And once DBSK started doing well in Japan, other management companies started bringing over their boybands as well. So it definitely helps that there’s already a japanese market out there now for Korean boybands VS the situation in 2005.

Also, I think BB is getting a lot more media exposure compared to the amount SS501 and DBSK got in the beginning, so kudos to YG! The Mezamashi appearance in particular will help them a lot I think :)

and this is a really random comment… but when I re-watched the performance of 24/7 embedded here I kept being reminded of pre-debut KAT-TUN. No clue why. Maybe it’s all the rapping?

@ Kpopper: :x because it clearly makes sense to compare the daily sales of a new single released in June with that of Arashi’s single that was released in May.

I don’t understand why people is saying that BB is doing so much better than THSK whent they debuted.
Tohoshinki didn’t promote right away in 2005!
They were in Korea nearly all the time, until the second half of 2006!
By the time that they started the heavy promotion in TV, tours, A-Nation, etc, they were selling the same amount than BB is doing right now.

Bluefire: Big Bang got #3 on the weekly charts, which is pretty good considering this is their first major single and they don’t have a Jpop sound at ALL. They managed 26,000+ units sold, so that’s a good start.

For all of you little pussies complaining, Big Bang’s trying to enter the Japanese market with a sounds that’s not only not popular, but unique to them, so they have a lot more work to than say Tohoshinki who sold out, became ballad-whores, and pretty much went from decent to producing crappy Jpop. All they did was release a million low-quality singles and hide from Johnny’s on the charts until they eventually found success.

Quite frankly, I hope that they don’t go the Tohoshinki route because I’d rather them actually make good music. Here’s hoping that Japan helps them find their sound.
