JYP pwns Khmer “Nobody”

nobody_20090313_seoulbeats

Oh the wrath of Donkey Kong. It was announced today that JYP is finally taking action on copycats of 08’s hit “Nobody”. He had been closing an eye to “parodies” around Asia but with an official recording of the song in Khmer girl group RHM’s “Vol. 376″ – topped off with MV incorporating both “Tell Me” and “Nobody” choreography no less – , Donkey Kong pounds his chest in protest.

Representatives of the Wonder Girls outside of South Korea, Sony BMG, will be in charge of investigations and court case procedures if there’s the need for them. JYP reiterated his decision on March 12th, of putting his foot down due to the Wonder Girls’ recent expansion overseas and the fear that copycats will affect future activities in Asia. But if I were him I’d fear nothing. It would’ve been less of a joke if this was actually a parody. Check out the video for yourselves.

At 0.49 if you get impatient.

To james bastard and other brainless commenters:

Before u called others bithches, ugly, or old, have u ever looked into the mirror to see urself? Everyone is equal, because we are all human beings (unless u are not one, right? lolzzzz…) so let’s learn to respect people from now on if u still dunno how! hahah…

Anyway, could u (james bastard and other brainless commenters) kindly post one of ur photo in here to let me see how handsome, beautiful and blossom u are? I bet not only me, but also all of the people here would also want to see ur faces too. So u won’t disappoint us, will u?? We’re looking forward to seeing ur photos soon. Hurry ok??? :D

However, if u are just as dirty n rotten as you are now that u cannot let us see n compare, then i think u should better zip ur smelly mouth up and stop calling others b*tches again while u are also one among those!!! :) Think so guys??

    @fuckkkkk
JUST TO LET U KNOW THERES THIS THING ABOUT “COPYRIGHTS”. the group up there clearly violated copyright laws.. its not about wg or their ability to sing or not. how would u feel if u wrote a book and someone else plagiarized and said they wrote it themself??

    go to school losers

    To Kathy:

Well, Thank you very much Kathy. I really appreciate your concern about copy right or plagiarsm stuff. But the fact, is that in the media industries, the word “Copyright” seems not exist in this world. why i say so? this is because there are lots of song are copied, translated from one to another country and from one singer to another singer. (We steal from each other, if you want to use this word). before I go further about this matter, i am wonderring which part of the world do you come from? would you like to tell me where are you from? then it would be easy for me topick some songs from your country and tell you whether they are copied from other countries or not, if you don’t know about them.

if you think copyright still exists, then would you like to ask Britney Spear to sue one of korean singer that they copied her song as well? (if i am not mistaken, it’s called I love rock and roll) and as i mention earlier, one song have more than one versions, korean version, Thai version, English version, Vietnamese version, Cambodia version. (i use version instead of copy cos it sounds much better than copied, isn’t it?)

Kathy, once again, many thanks to your concern and your idea regrads to this matter, and i hope this will make you clear about copyright in media industries. and if you read my comment, and you would like to reply to this comment, you are more than welcome to do so, but i assume that in your response, there will be no swearing words at all since you are an educated people.

    Cheers,

M Cambodian! When I See That Video First I Was Really Shock And Sad That HM Star Could Do That! Not Just HM Star A Group Of Cambodia Star Call “Rey Mes” Also Copy That Too!This Disappointed Me A Lot!Anyway This Is My Country! How Could I Blame?By The Way I Have Only A Word “Sorry” TO Jyp And My Korean Favorite Group”Wonder Girls”!Sorry!

  10. Jinho says:

Jyp has a right to sue, but comeon! That was so blatantly copied and it is not like they covered the song, but stole it. I’m not too fond of the wondergirls, but stealing is a nono.

  11. Nam Yu says:

Wow this conflict has really gone far

I agree that Yes it is bad to copy and not the get the permission but khmer people are poor and is in terrible state and its trying to get better the songs from other countries help them lift their spirits and relax to get away from the killings, wars and many sacrifices taken place

Koreans Get music rhythm from USA and It travels around Asia so Nobody was probably an American Song actually and WG copied it and other Asian countries copied it Just like NUMA NUMA I don’t think every country ask for the copyright permission but they made it but the original got even popular because everyone wanted to know where the original came from and O-zone Dragonstea Din Tei indeed was a bigger hit due to the copyrights =D

SO what if they copied maybe wonder girls would get more attention because this song is in Khmer and they don’t like but to the people that like it they will listen to it. Whats really wrong with spreading music around the world?

Why can’t we all act like a human and just say things nicely and argue in a respective manner no need to hate Khmers/Koreans/Americans/anyone

    Lets have peace

P.S I’m Khmer but I love listening to Kpop,Jpop,Khpop,ALL ASIAN POP SONGS

  12. Jinho says:

It’s not that it’s in khmer, or because as some of you said, to let it go as they are “poor”, it because nontheless it is wrong to steal. For example, If a homeless person was to steal your wallet in order to survive, it is still wrong. No matter of you are rich or poor it is still wrong. The reason why JYP is suing is because thy illegally covered the song, not because he is racist.

  13. autumn says:

WTF! Even the lyrics are copycatted!~

  14. Izzy says:

It’s got nothing to do with the TALENT people (which this Khmer group lacks sorely).

All you WG haters need to stop and think LOGICALLY. THINK.
JYP can’t exactly let this slide, because it IS illegal that they are releasing this to make a profit. it wasn’t intended to be a parody (though, it’s not too hard to mistake it as one).

So DUH… he has to sue them.

And honestly, you can’t just say “oh, pity them… it’s a poor country so they have to do this”.
Nevertheless, the music business has rules about copyright, so obviously they can’t just take that song and make it their own.
    it’s not right.

  15. blue says:

i totally agree w/ sky! thank you!

anyhoot, i understand that it was completely wrong and illegal to copy someone else’s music without their permission and without buying legal rights. therefore, jyp has the right to sue rhm for that.

however i have to point something out here. some of these comments are down right ugly. just because these girls copied wg, doesn’t give you the right to the call them fugly, she-males, lady-boys, etc. have some respect and be positive people. i understand you all have rights to your own opinion. but there are times when you need to think before you speak. being respectful is what should come to your mind first. now what if wg were from another country besides korea, and they copied someone else’s music, i bet the first thing that would come out of your mouth is: “damn they oogly!”

and to those cambodians who are too “ashamed of being khmer,” because of this predicament? c’mon seriously? then you go and suck up to how korean music is all you ever listen to, and korean movies are all that you watch. don’t get me wrong, i do love some korean music (big bang ftw!) and films. i’m just trying to make a point here that you shouldn’t suck face to someone else by putting down your own people. if anything, i as a khmer am ashamed of you guys.

@ skElEton, thanks for posting those links. although i don’t know if south korea bought rights to copy britney spears’s song, they still copied the cinematography and even the wardrobe from the original music video. and who’s to say korea never copied from anyone?

all in all, we all know that plagiarism is wrong. but please be adults about it and don’t act like some heartbroken-teen fangirl when someone copied your most beloved idols’ music.

    have a great day! =)
