It was 2000 and Rain was just one of the many struggling trainees while Park Ji Yoon (same age as Rain), was the big star and darling of JYP’s company. Rain was picked to be Park Ji Yoon’s dance partner in the song, “Moonlight Song”, and according to the singer, was too scared of her to even make eye contact.
The singer/musical actress/photographer no doubt likes to reminisce on the past. Who would blame her? She was on the top of the game in 2000, arguably the most popular female singer in Kpop at the time. In 2003, uncomfortable with the way her image and career was being used as one of the frontrunners in pushing sexual boundaries (JYP’s goal/tactic at the time) with songs like “Adult ceremony” and “Do you know how to…?”, the singer left Kpop and basically fell into obscurity.
Park Ji Yoon will be making a comeback soon with her 7th album, her first in six years. How she will be received is questionable since six years is forever in any kind of entertainment industry. 2009 is a very different climate than the ironically, more boundary pushing/shocking atmosphere of the early 2000’s. Can you imagine the Wonder Girls or SNSD (who are the same age that Park Ji Yoon was at the time) headlining such sexually provocative songs (not just as remake performances) today?
Park Ji Yoon revealed on “Happy Sunday”, that since she left the music industry, she has found her own identity as a singer/person and has missed singing for a very long time. If Park Ji Yoon did not felt like she belonged six years ago, maybe here in 2009, she will be able to finally freely express her unmanufactured true self to audiences and her fans.

wow, one of the JYP minions actually rebelled. i’m proud of her =D
i hope she does well!
it’s admirable for her to leave for those reasons.. i mean, who does?
7th album?! That’s awesome! I’ve always liked her, especially in Nan Namjayah.
I watched that episode a few days ago and I start to like her.
Now I understand why she left JYP’s company and I admire her. I wonder what happens to Wonder Girls & 2PM. I really do feel that they are being controlled. They are mature but have to be sexy are not them.
